  1. That's his name spelled phonetically in Korean above it (his mom's Korean, in case anyone missed that story). I like the guy, but mickey mouse - geez.
  2. I just like the idea of carrying a hammer with me everywhere I go. You never know when a hammer would come in handy. Like when a vending machine steals your change. People tend not to crowd you, either.
  3. I agree. And it's still cool to watch a launch.
  4. Just walked outside my house to watch the launch. Looked good from here (60mi away).
  5. Looks like there may be scope creep along the critical path of this thread. Might need to establish a focus group to look into the feasibility of initiating a task force to use industry best practices to implement a proactive synergy.
  6. I would recommend the Defense Language Institute, but you're probably not interested in joining the military. However, they do host on-line training materials through Lingnet or the Global Language Online Support System/GLOSS. You can search for Spanish lessons there. DLIFLC Homepage Lingnet GLOSS
  7. I watched his mission debriefings years ago. I could tell then by his manner I wouldn't much care for the guy personnally (in comparison, I thought Steve Ritchie seemed pretty decent), but you can't argue with the results. Congressmen taking bribes should have the book thrown at them.
  8. This is news? I know people who've been running on pure BS for years. People keep voting for them, though.
  9. Yes, to teach them to point to a blank map of the world, name the countries, the topology, the climate, the culture, the languages spoken, religions, leading natural resources, how the population was formed historically, etc. could easily take a year for the near 200 countries in the world. But it would be time well spent when it comes time to discuss international relations. I don't agonize over the stupidity of the American voter. I don't think he has the basic knowledge foundation on which to formulate rational thought. But I don't agonize over it. Grab 100 adults off the street, I bet most of them can't describe any or all of the above basic knowledge questions about Peru - or find it on a map. But they'll give you an opinion on it. What's that worth to you?
  10. Yes, as I said (pay attention, class), geography is a foundation of international political relations. I'm not yet convinced many 15 year olds can confidently locate the countries you list on a map. A blank map. And cite some basic information about the peoples there, and their language, culture, religion, the climate, the topography, etc. To turn your question around, what the hell good is it to discuss international political relations, if they can't find any of the countries on a map?
  11. Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in.
  12. I would rephrase your statement to read "Education should not consist solely of rote memorization". Once basics of a subject are memorized, the student has the foundation to solve problems of a more complex nature. HS Sophmore Geography class doesn't sound like the proper venue for international political relations. That's a college course. HS Geography is a major part of the foundation of that, but crawl, walk, run.
  13. Good point. I'd rather the school stuck to having my children memorize and regurgitate their lessons, and I'll do my job of teaching them how to think for themselves.
  14. Don't get discouraged if you don't see some sort of huge change come over him - it's enough right now to stop things from getting worse by isolating him from other influences. He's going to meet plenty of people there who would be more than happy to keep him on the wrong path, but they won't have near the opportunity they do on the outside, so it will slow him down. In the meantime, he has a chance to mature. Best of luck.
  15. BB&T announces eminent domain policy BB&T Corporation today said it will not lend to commercial developers that plan to build condominiums, shopping malls and other private projects on land taken from private citizens by government entities using eminent domain. Don't see that too often. As in never. I wonder what my bank's policy is? Might be time to switch.
  16. rel "x" + rel "y" = noforn. Can't give you a classification guide reference.
  17. Wow, you really ran with that without much to go on. I'll see if I can help you out: The humor is not in regard to the creation of life or not. "Emergency contraception" - now that's funny. I am not 'anti-morning-after pill'. Any religious affiliation I may or may not have are none of your business. And I prefer the term 'emergency contraceptive'. For the record, I am not a terrorist or a suicide bomber. What is it with you guys and the names? Nazi! Facist! Misogynistic Pig! Knuckle-dragger! Is there anyone here who can make a point without this nonsense? You may find my argument inane, but I find the entire issue inane. Democrats and Republicans have been using exactly these type of BS issues for so many years to divide everyone into two camps, while they work together to infuse government into absolutely every last freaking aspect of our lives. Hopefully, somewhere down the road, we can get a group of bi-partisan elected officials to come to agreement on sweeping pharmacy regulation reform that will include measures to ensure that every pharmacy maintains stock in accordance with state regulation, or can obtain certain items in a reasonable amount of time in accordance with state regulation, and has pharmacists on duty who will consent to dispense these items in accordance with state regulation if there are other pharmacists on duty who object to dispensing it. Go politicians!
  18. I heard Rick or Jim say they didn't get in until 2am. Heck of a job by Ryan Miller to get a point.
  19. None of which have a Wal-Mart. Perhaps the government should make them open stores in those locations.
  20. I asked for some proof on a point of an argument I've seen advanced numerous times in this debate, and your response is to call me myopic, chastise me to be a 'good boy', and further tell me what to comment on? What kind of nonsense is that? I think a point of the argument that is being defended is not based on fact. If you do not wish to offer proof or concede the point, then perhaps you can mind your own business.
  21. For the second time, I understand exactly what emergency contraception means. That's why I think it's funny. Contraception, as in to prevent conception. Emergency, as in a sudden, unforseen crisis; a situation that poses an immediate threat to human life or serious damage to property. "911, what's your emergency?" I guess I am the only one who sees the humor in it.
  22. Knuckle-dragging misongynistic pig? I thought the opposition in this thread were Nazis or Facists. Oh well, well scored - a clear debate point for you there. I believe I perfectly understand what a "emergency" contraceptive is, and I'm still amused by the term. Feel free to call me whatever name it is you prefer.
