2nd half thread: Wk 6 Bills at Texans, 1 pm on CBS

Why is Allen not in the locker room getting an x ray? The look on his face suggests he might have broken his elbow. -

Deshaun Watson has been horrific today. No pocket awareness whatsoever. -

If we had a mediocre QB we might be 5-1 at this point. Our defense has been incredible since halftime of the Chargers game and it's all going to waste because our QB can't complete a pass more than 5 yards down field. -

The scary part is that there's been no improvement whatsoever over the past month. His awareness, particularly on 3rd down, might actually be getting worse. He's not even trying to work past his primary read anymore. It's just look at primary receiver, and if he's not open try to run for a 1st down. As you said, he's a total deer in the headlights. He doesn't know what he's doing back there. -

We had the same personnel last year and our offense was never this bad. Allen is completely useless as a passer. We have the worst QB in the NFL right now. -

The Bills would be really good if they didn't have the worst QB in the NFL right now. The defense is awesome. Allen looks like how I'd expect a 3rd stringer to look. He's completely useless as a passer. -

Allen has no idea what he's doing back there. This offense is completely unwatchable with him at QB. -

Our offense is unwatchable. We have no semblance of a passing game whatsoever. 45 yards passing on 15 attempts. Our QB can't throw the ball more than 5 yards down field and expect to complete anything. -
Andy Benoit: How Do the Bills Keep Pulling Off Upsets?

They've had arguably the best defense in the NFL since halftime of the Chargers game. -
I'm not waiting a year to evaluate them. I think they rolled the dice on the wrong QB and I think their offensive personnel decisions up until now have been horrendous. At the end of 2019, I suspect we'll probably be looking for a new coach, GM and QB. I think this team is trending in the wrong direction.
-
The cap space is great, but why would anyone want to come play for this team right now unless we overpay them dramatically? Any why would you have any faith that the coach or GM can actually identify good players? Everything this regime has brought in on the offensive side of the ball hasn't worked out so far. On paper we're in a good spot heading into next season, but I have no faith that anyone is going to be clamouring to come play for the 31st ranked offense or that this regime can actually identify the right players to throw money at.

Nothing about this regime indicates they know what good offensive players look like. Everything they've brought in so far at WR and on the OL hasn't been good enough. McDermott doesn't strike me as an advanced, forward thinking guy when it comes to strategy. If anything he's the opposite, and his comments yesterday about character trumping strategy were extremely concerning. The best teams in the NFL right now are the ones pushing the envelope on the offensive side of the ball with forward thinking innovation to take advantage of the rule changes that reward teams for passing the football. I don't think McDermott is that type of guy. I think he'd prefer to run the ball and try to play good defense, which is an extremely flawed philosophy in 2018 in the NFL.

Sal Carpaccio’s Plan To Fix Offense in 2019

If that's the case, then our decision to trade Sammy Watkins and make no attempt to re sign Robert Woods like extremely foolish. This regime has given zero indication they can actually evaluate offensive talent. They've let good NFL players leave, and have replaced them with guys who are backups at best. Benjamin was a massive miss, trading up for Zay Jones when similar players like Juju Smith Schuster was available was a disaster, the players they've brought in on the OL have all been replacement level contributors, etc. This regime has given me no confidence that they'll be able to identify good young offensive players. Pretty much everything they've added on that side of the ball hasn't worked out. -
I disagree. But ultimately where we are in the rebuild doesn't matter. This is a horrible football team with maybe 3-4 building blocks they can build around in the coming years. Most of the roster consists of older, overpaid vets who for the most part aren't contributing. This team is mostly devoid of talent. We have a major question mark at QB, the worst group of receivers in the NFL, an offensive line that needs to be rebuilt, and a defense that lacks true playmakers. As things stand, the cupboard is extremely bare when it comes to the talent we have on the roster who are still on their rookie deals. We need 2, maybe 3 more drafts to compensate for all the talent they jettisoned for draft picks over the past year. This offense needs 8, maybe 9 new starters on offense for next year. If that isn't a team that's rebuilding I don't know what is.
