  1. Watch the highlights. #59 is on the field throughout the first quarter.
  2. Completely agree. Bills fans need to grow some thick skin with Allen as our QB. There are going to be some major growing pains over the next couple years as he tries to figure out how to play quarterback. If people are expecting a smooth ride for a guy who pretty much everyone said was a 2-3 year project then they're going to be extremely disappointed. I don't think this is bad long term, but I completely agree that Allen isn't ready to play, and as Carter said, "there's nothing wrong with that." He's got the tools, he just needs time to figure out how to use them properly. The Bills had a bad offense last year (29th in yards, 22nd in points) and they got worse at QB and on the OL. It's hard to imagine them winning many games with that should be one of the 3-4 lowest scoring offenses in the league this year.
  3. They can't send Allen out there and completely ruin his development. He said himself that he wasn't ready for the speed of playing against a starting defense. He's still a ways away from being ready to successfully lead an NFL offense against starting calibre competition.
  4. Keuchly was 100% on the field. He and Thomas Davis were out there the whole time Peterman was. As I said, watch the highlights.
  5. Seems like a stretch to discount what Peterman did against the Panthers when almost all of their starters were on the field while Peterman was in the game.
  6. For the long term, this is probably the best option. As some have pointed out, sitting on the bench rarely helps and most successful NFL franchise QBs showed they would be successful very early in their careers. Allen was picked by a team who went to the playoffs last year. If Tyrod could steer this team to a 9 win season, it shouldn't be that tough for him to produce similar results considering how low the bar was. If Allen has "it", he'll compensate for the supporting cast. If he doesn't, he'll completely crash and burn. Might as well find out what we have immediately. If he's the right guy, he'll find a way to figure out how to be successful.
  7. As a team, the Bills have are solid at RB, and they have a pretty good secondary overall. Everywhere else on the field they have issues, with a few areas being a major concern (OL & QB). On paper the Bills look like they might have the worst offense in the league. Last year we were 29th in the NFL in Total O and 22nd in Total Points, and appear to have got worse at QB and on the OL. We scored 18.9 PPG last year, and I can see that number being in the 16-17 PPG range this year which could result in us having a top 5 draft pick next year. Simply put, it's really hard to win in the NFL if you can't score more than 17 points per game.
  8. How on Earth is that pass getting intercepted? The defender is behind the receiver, and it's a short pass. The odds of him breaking in front to intercept the pass are practically non existent. Allen needs to feel the pressure, and throw the ball down and away where only his guy has a chance of catching it and avoid the sack for a loss of 8 yards.
  9. Looking at the schedule, I think it would be a mistake to start Allen week 1. I think we'd wind up 0-4 and his confidence would be completely shot. He said it himself - the speed of playing the first stringers of the Bengals wasn't something he was prepared for. If we throw this guy to the wolves in week 1, I think it'll be a train wreck. If you start Peterman, and let him play poorly, then you can pull Allen once the schedule softens a bit and let him play against easier opponents the the majority of the remaining games coming at home.
  10. I don't think the Bills are the worst in the league, but they appear to be quite bad. In relation to the rest of the league: QB - below average RB - above average WR - below average TE - average OL - below average Run D - below average Pass rush - below average LBs - below average Secondary - above average The Bills are below average at most spots on their roster, including big ones like QB, OL and DL. If they can't control the line of scrimmage, and take a step backwards in terms of QB efficiency this year which seems quite likely, it's hard to see them matching what they did last year. Depending on how many breaks they get, this looks like a 5-7 win team which should be looking at a top 10 draft pick.
  11. Trent could make every throw with easy. He had every tool to be a successful QB, he just didn't like taking chances and played way too conservatively to utilize his talent.
  12. The only thing Allen has going for him is natural ability. The rest isn't good enough yet.
  13. Sack 1 there's nothing he can do. Sack 2, the hitch at the top of the field is open if he throws with anticipation. It's 2nd and 2, he's got an empty set, and the Bengals are showing the same blitz package they sacked him on previously. Allen has to recognize he has no help, and needs to read the D pre snap to know that he's got to throw the ball to Kerley and get the ball out of his hands quickly. He appears to lock on to Clay, which doesn't make any sense considering that the D is showing pressure and he doesn't have a RB in to help chip. Sack 3 he need to pull the trigger and throw it to Coleman. The DE is nearly on his back, and the DT is right in his face. He has to pull the trigger and throw it even if it's at the receivers feet and avoid the sack. Instead he pats the ball and tries to move onto his next read and gets swallowed up by the defense. The blocking is terrible, but Allen easily could have thrown a pass where only Coleman could dive for it and avoided the sack. Sack 4 - as shown, Allen doesn't throw with anticipation to an open Kerley, tries to leave the pocket and gets sacked. Sack 5 - again he doesn't pull the trigger for some reason. At this point he looked like a deer in the headlights and was pretty clearly shaken. Overall the blocking was bad, but Allen was responsible for 3 of the sacks, and possibly a 4th if he'd had the awareness to know he was going to get sacked and dunk a simply ball at his receiver's feet to avoid the loss of 8 yards. Even if Coleman is "covered", it's still a pass he can throw to avoid the sack. It's a crossing route with the defender behind the receiver. The chances of it getting picked are slim to none and a sack should have been avoided here.
  14. I think Allen made the line look worse than it actually played. It was bad, but his inexperience made them look terrible. I don't know if Peterman will get hurt or not, but I agree that Allen is going to start at some point. Sunday has me very concerned about how he'll fare though. He looked really overwhelmed and at times lost in the face of pressure. The game looked too fast for him on Sunday which in my eyes is a big concern considering that no one game plans in the preseason and the Bengals had him reeling with a basic Cover 2 defense. If a basic Cover 2 D in preseason has Allen overwhelmed, I'd hate to see what a good defense with a real game plan can do to him.
  15. After two possessions of not moving the ball, Allen started to look like a deer in the headlights. As the end of the 2nd quarter neared, he looked really lost. He was holding the ball too long, and didn't pull the trigger on a few throws that ultimately resulted in sacks that didn't have to happen. Transplant might disagree, but Allen is an enormous project. At 6'5, 240, with 4.7 speed and the biggest arm to enter the NFL in about 10 years, if he wasn't a project he would have gone number 1 overall. Allen "slid" on draft day despite his enormous raw talent because he's a risky proposition. He was a mediocre QB prospect who came out of the Mountain West and quite simply isn't ready to run with the 1s against starting calibre defenses at this point in his development. As you said, hearing a rookie QB talk about how fast the game was, and about how he was overwhelmed and wasn't able to conduct proper presnap reads is a pretty serious indictment of how ready he is to lead an NFL offense. Nate Peterman on the other hand looks to be in complete control of the offense. He's quick to the line, knows what's going on with the other 10 guys on the field with him and he gets the ball out quickly. He lacks arm strength, but he's accurate and the ball gets out quickly. Allen has the talent, but as things stand he doesn't know how to properly use his tools because he processes what's happening on the field at a slower pace. He doesn't have experience and the jump from the MWC to the NFL is enormous.
  16. Peterman has outplayed Allen in all three games. This isn't just about yesterday, which showed pretty clearly Allen isn't ready to contribute at the NFL level.
  17. Yesterday showed this pretty clearly.
  18. This is your opinion. I disagree with all of it.
  19. Agreed. I have no idea why everyone is in such a hurry to start a guy who was drafted as an enormous project. Allen needs to sit and learn on the bench, or all the time he put into his mechanics will get shot to hell. His confidence looked shook yesterday in a half of football. If you start this guy week 1 and he stinks, you can't go back on that without risking ruining his development.
  20. Last night disagrees. Last night was a glimpse into what our offense will look like this year with Allen as the QB. He was a huge project coming out of college who needs to learn on the sidelines. He's clearly not ready.
  21. I don't see any reasonable argument that says Allen is better right now. He's bigger, he's stronger, he's faster, and he's got a rocket arm, but he isn't a better quarterback at this point. Allen has the tools, but he doesn't know how to use them yet. He was a project coming out of college who still has a ton to learn.
  22. This isn't true. The All 22 will tell a very different story of him patting the ball.
  23. Geno Atkins is one of the best DTs in the NFL. I honestly don't think it would make any difference.
