  1. Nets have been dealing with it all season with their star player who is not allowed to play home games. Could be a big issue for NY baseball - but I expect that it will get resolved before opening day. Circling back to the Nets that would p!ss me off if I was a fan.
  2. @Gugny @Another Fan Are you guys aware of how the current NYC vax workplace requirements will affect Mets and Yanks unless they change? Unvaxed Mets and Yanks are currently not allowed to play at Citi Field or Yankee Stadium. Here's the kicker: unvaxed players from a visiting team are allowed to play at Citi Field and Yankee Stadiu Typing this out raised a question I don't have the answer to: if there is a subway series under the current rules would an unvaxed Met be able to play at Yankee Stadium? I'm guessing the answer is yes.
  3. Anyone catch this:
  4. As an outsider looking in I assume it's just the Braves preferring to give a long term deal to the younger player. Probably the smart move if you take emotion out of the equation. Braves have had some good examples of not holding on to guys for too long (Glavine, Avery) but holding on to the right ones (Smoltz, Maddux).
  5. Up until today the best play Miller made for the Bills was the unsportsmanlike on Tyrod to help close out a game. Looking forward to more contributions from Von but wearing the charging Buffalo and with the clock ticking! Go Bills!
  6. @Gugny @Nineforty A year or two ago they asked George Brett what he'd have done if they put a shift on when he played. He said he would have hit .400 every year. I don't like the DH either but it was inevitable. I'm very happy that they got rid of the runner on 2nd in extra innings, that was awful. And while I wasn't a big fan of the 7 inning double-headers I was actually OK with them (edit - as long as it's single admission for the fans)
  7. Have you ever seen video of cars stuck on a highway overnight in a snowstorm and thought - what a bunch of morons, that would never happen to me. Well it happened to me. Had an overnight ski trip planned with a friend and we were keeping an eye on an incoming storm. It got sketchy late afternoon and just before we were going to leave they declared a state of emergency because it was turning into an ice storm in some areas. My friend convinced me that we could outflank the storm by staying east of it and if it took us twice as long to get there it would be worth it because conditions the next day would be great. He was driving and I didn't have the good sense to say no. Got stuck the first time on I-684 for 15 minutes when a car spun out and blocked the road. Got stuck the second time for an hour on I-84 when traffic came to a standstill. Got to drive maybe a mile or two further before getting stuck for the night just watching the snow pile up on the hood of the car and having no idea if/when we would get moving. In the morning we made a snowman on the side of the highway. Eventually the local fire department came by and directed us to a nearby exit where we turned around and headed home.
  8. Kind of forgot about King's X for years before posting on Friday. Listened to the full Gretchen album since . I forgot how much I liked it - worth a listen if you like the opening track.
  9. My father had a great line for people like this: Sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're an idiot instead of opening it up and removing all doubt.
  10. This thread has been great since day 1 when OP set the tone to share some music - any music. Nice to see you drop in.
  11. Nice memory - my mind went straight to the Bama-lover but I spaced on the name.
  12. I think baseball is declining in popularity compared to other sports. As my kids progressed through Little League I saw the number of teams in the league decline - even to the point that our league merged with a league from a neighboring community. Part of that can be attributed to declining enrollment in the school districts, but I think kids are gravitating to other sports like soccer and lacrosse. It amazes me how many kids play sports year round. When I grew up each season had it's sport. Nowadays a lot of kids focus on one sport. Even the baseball kids play year round (mine never did). The result is they end up going to travel teams and even when they stick with little league (more at bats than they get with travel) they miss games due to conflicts with travel and there's a wider disparity in talent which can discourages the lesser player.
  13. Best wishes for a positive outcome. If it's any help a close friend has a son who had a liver transplant many years ago and it turned out for the best. Hoping for the same for you.
  14. Newark, DE is the one I thought of. Any thread on city pronunciations is incomplete without Mianus, CT. I honestly don't know the correct pronunciation - but I know how I pronounce it every time I pass through (pun intended).
  15. And none of those teams won a Super Bowl. As much as I want the Bills to score a TD on every possession of every game it can't come at the expense of a bad D.
  16. So we're adding break and enter to the assault charge?
  17. @Gugny @Another Fan Nearly a month later and the regular season won't start on time. So much for my optimism. I was listening to WFAN yesterday and they were trying to organize a celebrity softball game on what should be MLB opening day. Proceeds would go to stadium workers who will miss out on their paycheck. Probably a lot of hot air to keep listeners tuned in but a great sentiment nonetheless. It hit home harder when I walked into ***** Sporting Goods today looking for a birthday gift for my son and came across an Alonso jersey of questionable quality priced at $130.
  18. I'd rather punch him in the nuts.
  19. And the reason every regular season game doesn't go to OT is because teams make defensive stands/plays, no? I suppose I'm in the minority but I'm fine with the current OT system in the NFL, it just doesn't bother me like it does others.
  20. If we're so sure that whoever won the coin toss (KC or Buffalo) would score on the first possession it follows to me that the assumption is the other team would score on the next possession - which puts us back to the winner of the coin toss has the advantage. Change isn't inherently bad - but it's not inherently good either.
  21. Apathy has rained on me Now I'm feeling like a soggy dream So close to drowning but I don't mind I'll live inside this mental cave Throw my emotions in the grave Hell, who needs them anyway I'm not growing up I'm just burning out And I stepped in line To walk amongst the dead
  22. In the morning Don't say you love me Cause I'll only kick you out of the door
