I just saw that Alderson got an extension. I'm happy about that.

No clue how well known this is, but back in 2011 I came across the Slade Family Christmas Card and my family has looked forward to them every Xmas season since. Here's the 2011 card, if you're interested the others are easy enough to find. Happy holidays!

Bills table slammer remorse
SinceThe70s replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's brutal about your friend. And I assume in line with OP trying to find a link to the guy who realized how fortunate he is that whatever happened wasn't worse. We take too much for granted. I laughed then and cringe now at some of the dumb stuff me and my friends did. For that reason, I can't/won't wish the worst for the table slammers. -
Bills table slammer remorse

I'll bet this guy was a Bills fan: -
Maybe I missed it, but are we really 12 pages in with no Hendrix? This one is NSFW due to mammalian protruberances.

Where did the new stadium thread go?

Has officiating ever NOT been a problem?
SinceThe70s replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NHL definitely limited the scope by originally allowing only reviews of goals (i.e - did it cross the line). I'm pretty sure that they went so far as allowing play to continue until a whistle and then going back to review a non-goal. But they did take the next step down the slippery slope when they allowed review of offsides calls after a goal was scored. Good points and I agree in principle. The problem for me is the refs were making blatantly bad calls and I think there should be room to correct those. It's just difficult to strike the right balance and now we're at a point where people are debating minutia that would be better left to the call on the field IMO. -
And therein lies the problem with instant replay. At what point do we stop every single play and have someone in the replay booth check the all-22 for holding calls? Worse yet, we'll mic up everyone and throw flags for harsh/offensive language.
-
For me that perfectly sums up the problem with instant replay. It started as a necessity to correct the blatant bad/missed calls that every one saw on TV and knew were wrong. It was never intended to be taken to this extreme and it's changed how games are officiated and how we watch the games in a bad way. .

Somehow we got from Dunkirk Don to Trump. This thread just continues to entertain and amaze. Good stuff.

Playoffs? Playoffs?? The Playoff Chances Thread
SinceThe70s replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I'm trying to figure out is how losing to the Falcons would have put us in a better position than we are in right now. Win out. Playoffs. (Sorry folks, this is a delayed response to the annual early season trollish/jack-assian post after we beat an NFC team claiming our playoff chances just worsened). -
Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi thread
SinceThe70s replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Saw it today and agree about the first half. I didn't care for the Laura Dern character. Was glad when she took one for the team. Did he definitively survive or get killed off? I didn't catch either and was expecting him to reappear late in the movie. -
Lookalikes Star Wars/Dweezil Edition...post your own

Kylo Ren and Marilyn Manson -
My memory sucks. Probably a contributing factor to being an out-of-town Bills fan for so long. Bills aside, me and the fam are going to see Last Jedi tomorrow. In preparation we watched Force Awakens tonight...mostly because I wanted to refresh my memory on the story line. Not long into the movie Po showed up and my synapses fired at the forgotten memory that Po was a dead ringer for Dweezil Zappa. My family agreed...including my harshest critic...wifey.

Ralph Wilson Quotes Himself While Firing John Butler
SinceThe70s replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't watch the video, don't care. Posthumously disparaging Ralph Wilson when the team is still in Buffalo and coming off a classic Buffalo hometown win is distasteful and pointless to me -
I thought this Christmas song, which is a Christmas song, but not my favorite Christmas song and also not a Christmas song I hate was worth sharing. Instead of starting a new thread, here its is.

Songs that are Christmas songs...

Songs that are Christmas songs...
SinceThe70s replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Two questions: Without the Peanuts Christmas special would you even know this song? When you hear this song, do you think of Christmas? I don't find this confusing in any way, shape or form. -
Songs that are Christmas songs...

Linus and Lucy? One of my (many) favorite Xmas songs. If I heard it in July I'd think great song but it isn't Christmas time why are you playing this? Sleigh Ride? Another all time great. But if I hear it in January or February it better be snowing, but it would still feel out of place! Both of those songs are Xmas by association which I think OP was getting at. It's easy for me, if it's a song that you only hear around Xmas, then by God it's a Xmas song. -
Off topic, I am still in awe of everyone who was at the game. 2" of snow per hour for 4 hours is nuts. Personally I don't think that's something they need to plan for....any more than the fog games or any other extreme weather condition. Sometimes weather happens, players need to deal with it and both teams did. However, I will grudgingly admit that I understand why the NFL would not want the Super Bowl played in similar conditions...although it wouldn't bother me in the least.

What argument? Beats me, I'm surprised by what the lawyers come up with for lawsuits on a regular basis. Will they win? Beats me, perhaps not. Will all of this affect parents decisions on which sport their kids play? Seems plausible. Did I say the league is "suddenly" saturated? For me, it has happened over time and honestly color rush adds to my fatigue...but as I said it hasn't affected my viewing habits yet and um...I did agree with you about the ratings, right? Did you read that part?
-
I'm no law expert but I'm skeptical that the NFL has insulated themselves from future lawsuits. From my laymans perspective we are an overly litigious society and I never underestimate the power of a jury. As for ratings, I didn't say the NFL would get rid of Thursday night. It's just my personal observation that between the week 1 Thursday opener and MNF double header, Sunday, Monday and Thursday night games, and late season Saturday night games the league may be over-saturating the product. But I also agreed with you that the poor ratings argument is a joke. I still watch most of those games.
-
I think the injury/CTE concerns are a legit threat to the NFL in a few ways. Parents unwilling to let their kids play and the potential for lawsuits against the league to name two. Although I do think the NFL has been oversaturating their product with the Thursday night and other extra games, I agree, the poor tv ratings argument is a joke. I'll change my mind if and when the world wide Super Bowl ratings start to suffer and advertisers stop going over the top with SB commercials.

Kudos to the fans who were at the game
SinceThe70s replied to T-Bomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tell anyone who will listen that cold rain is my most hated weather. Sucks and there's nothing to look forward to. If it gets colder you get sleet, warmer you're still wet and miserable. I sat through a single digit temp season ending Saints/Jets game when both teams sucked and it was rough, but slogging through a snow game (including the ride home) is far more impressive. So for sure, kudos to everyone in attendance today! Glad you were paid off with the W!
