  1. I hear ya. In my mind the jury's out on these two. They get high praise for breaking the drought and the strong defenses. But apart from drafting Allen, the QB situation has been an abomination. I hate picking at scabs, but their reliance on Peterman was mind-numbing and made me question their competence. They are positioned to field a playoff contending team next year. We should expect that and not another 7 win wait-until-next-year season.
  2. I tend more towards yours and Teefs way of thinking, but I disagree with the bolded above. Is there a regime since 2000 that you think would have succeeded had they been given more time? I'm all for continuity but it has to be positive continuity.
  3. So now he's trying to leverage a potential NFL first round draft pick payday against his MLB signing bonus. Can't say I blame him, but I can't think of a past precedent. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25754391/oakland-athletics-get-ok-mlb-offer-kyler-murray-more-money-stick-baseball https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2815519-kyler-murray-rumors-star-is-seeking-15m-wants-big-time-money-from-as?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
  4. Love your posts and attitude Teef, but at some point you have to take off the training wheels and set the expectation to success and not just be satisfied with progress (or the perception of progress). I agree that they don't necessarily need to make the playoffs next year but 7 wins would be more then just disappointing to me. My expectation is that at worst I won't be checking in on the ESPN playoff machine until there are 2 maybe 3 games left in the season. I could live with a season that we should have made the playoffs and didn't but if it's another where we could have made the playoffs and didn't it may be time to move on to a new regime.
  5. If the intent was to represent Zeppelin's "force and presence" it missed the mark for me. I'm reminded of a quote from Spinal Tap: I think that the problem may have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object
  6. Yup, solid but unspectacular. I liked him.
  7. Avoided arbitration. A sign of good will.
  8. My only criticism of Presence would be the album cover. Not a fan, they had much better, but who really cares. My only criticism of your post is the Achilles shade. Love the song, especially Bonham's devastating fills.
  9. This came as a breath of fresh air to me. Quotes from an article about new Mets hitting coach Chili Davis, link to article below: "Chili Davis will be just fine with the Mets swinging for the fences less frequently this season." "The veteran hitting coach, hired last month by the Mets as part of manager Mickey Callaway’s retooled staff, will be preaching contact this spring" https://nypost.com/2019/01/11/chili-davis-pushing-mets-to-old-school-controversial-hitting-approach/ Kind of amazing that putting the ball in play is considered "controversial" in some circles. Probably just the NY Post headline writers, but it's still nauseating.
  10. I just hope the Colts go on a run so I can keep checking in on the Capt Andrew Luck twitter feed: Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Yes No No No Yes Yes Yes No Yes No Yes Yes Yes Yes No No
  11. Not sure when beating the spread entered the conversation, I was going by the thread title. If the conversation is beat the spread I'll tap out. Maybe I missed the boat on where the debate went. Otherwise... My guess is you're underestimating the physical maturity. I think an NFL team would mercilessly attack the physical shortcomings of a college team. 25% of that team is how old? And 25% never make the NFL. IMO the physical mismatches would be overwhelming for the college team. Even worse when the backups come in.
  12. Why didn't you politely decline? Regardless, let us know if the beef/chicken/fish comes with a side of garlic mashed.
  13. I'm assuming the 75% number is across a few draft years, we're not getting 75% every year, right? If so, do you think at a given point in time that the 75% that will eventually become NFL players are physically (maybe mentally too) mature enough to compete at an NFL level and beat the worst team in the league? To me, that's the crux of the debate.
  14. I don't think they're making him an outfielder. More like a Super Joe McEwing jack-of-all trades guy. That said I agree with your plan, except I don't think we're bringing in another outfielder.
  15. Since they signed Lowrie, there are a lot of reports floating around about McNeil playing some OF, but it's nothing new. When Wilpon, VW and Mickey went on WFAN they talked about McNeil being able to play in the outfield. Also: https://nypost.com/2018/12/12/mickey-callaway-reveals-jeff-mcneils-role-on-new-look-mets/ If he can play adequately at different positions McNeil could be like Zobrist. If he plays LF like Todd Hundley, "check please!". I do hope they can move Frazier, I'm with you blue...that batting average is a boat anchor.
  16. First time I ever saw Rosen was a TV interview. Didn't even hear him speak before I formed an opinion. Was watching with my Jets fan friend months before the draft. We both took one look at the expression on his face and his body language and tagged him as a d-bag that neither of us wanted to lead our team. We could both be wrong, perhaps Rosen is a real swell guy and will thrive in the NFL. As it stands right now, we're both happy that he didn't land on our team.
  17. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but Pat White comes to mind for me.
  18. According to the site below the ratings and viewership for the late game this past Sunday crushed the late Saturday night game 19.7 to 15.9 and 35.89 to 29.38. http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/nfl-tv-ratings-viewership-nbc-cbs-fox-espn-nfln-regular-season-playoffs/ Those numbers might not translate to a Super Bowl weekend where there's only one game but my guess is the numbers this coming weekend will be similar.
  19. The Mets signed 34 year old infielder Jed Lowrie to a 2 year deal. Predominantly a second baseman. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/jed-lowrie-luis-avilan-sign-1.25787612 Somebody explain this to me. Cano gonna get suspended again? McNeil about to get traded or likes to hit women? I am at a total loss.
  20. Thanks for taking the time to respond with great info. I'd still agree with the Bucky Brooks tweet that Yolo posted about NFL first rounders ability to hit jackpot sooner, but your point is well taken.
  21. C'mon bro give me the names of the 5, I'm interested. I did expect it to be more pitchers than position players from college...but then again I'm assuming Kyler isn't a pitcher due to his height.
  22. Great comebacks., but... How many top 10 MLB picks from college become big leaguers? Alll stars? Perennial all stars? And did you distinguish pitchers from position players? You tabbed Kyler as an all-star....no wait, a perennial all-star! That was a step too far for me and led me to respond. For the record, I'm not entrenched in the idea that baseball is a better choice than football for Kyle or vice versa. I think it's a difficult decision for him (we haven't even touched on injury factor or love of the game!).
  23. I get that. Otherwise he wouldn't have gotten $5 mill guaranteed...from the freakin' A's! It's just my perception that : - first round NFL QB's make a lot more money a lot quicker (how long until Kyler makes his next $5mill playing baseball?) - top NFL draft picks are more of a sure thing than top MLB draft picks out of college - top NFL draft picks are at best a 50/50 proposition
  24. "can be a perennial all star in baseball" is kind of laughable. He could also never make it to the big leagues. It's typically a longer and less predictable road to MLB stardom than it is to the NFL. From what I understand he has $5 mill guaranteed on the A's contract. Unless I'm mistaken Lamar Jackson had about the same guaranteed as a late 1st rounder. The rewards ($$$) usually come quicker in the NFL...as does the end of the dream for those who don't pan out. So while, I don't disagree that baseball is the better choice for him, I can see where it's a difficult decision if he'e projected to go first round.
