  1. I was thinking the same thing... I never wish injury on anyone... I won't say it isn't a little karma happening, what with his High Character and all, or playing on a team of cheaters... But, I wouldn't wish injury. It certainly shakes things up in the AFC and especially the AFC East... Every prognosticator seems to be in love with the Favres... oops, I mean Jets.
  2. I really hope that Trent figures out his issues with inclement weather... He did settle in nicely... it could have been some jitters at the start too, so he gets a pass from me on the early performance. With the LB play... let's not forget what happened on FRIDAY before the game, it had to change things up with putting Crowell on IR and throwing a different starting LB in there with so little notice. I would expect to see improvement as they get more playing time together. This is a completely new LB unit... A Backup, A rookie off of IR, and a FA acquisition... + a new DL and the standing up scheme too... They did very well, and I expect they'll improve as they work together. That was a "Special" game in terms of ST... It was great to watch, but they cannot depend on that type of performance week in and week out... we have great ST, but they aren't always going to Win the game on their own (14 + TD off a turnover). Fortunately, the offense seems to play better so we won't need that type of performance... they were just plain awesome. Get Well Roscoe... hope those Ribs don't keep him out of the Jax game - if they do, I wonder if McKelvin get's a shot at PR?
  3. Me & my buddies used to use FTW for F%^& the World... back when we thought Anarchy was cool... Basically, what we have in this column is a calling out of the bulk of NE Pats* fans... you know, the Fair Weathered kind... The kind who were so supportive they almost watched "their" team move to Connecticut... Until Bledsoe led them to a SB Loss, and then Brady won one, then another for 'em. Those fans... How many empty seats will there be in Foxboro if this team loses 3-4 games before midseason? My guess is a fair number of 'em... You'll see them on StubHub for cheap. Boston is a Baseball town - always has been. The pats are a fad whilst Brady is there and winning. Once the losing starts, they might as well pack up and move.
  4. If nothing else... we just showed ourselves that we have a solid backup at worst! What an incredible performance today against a "premier" defense (in their own mind anyways).
  5. That's the rub in the Ralph.... The NFL has structured all the shared revenue (not the crap w/ big teams helping the little ones... the old school revenue sharing between all the league)... You only have to share regular seats, the luxury box money goes straight to the owner - not the sharing... Buffalo doesn't have the corporate $ any more to pay for said luxury seats... Ralph W doesn't care about the cheap seats, he shares that anyways... it's the luxury boxes he wants and Buffalo doesn't appear to be able to support those... and there isn't money for a new stadium... or major renovation of the Ralph. Combine this with the fact Ralph outright owns the team, and isn't paying for an exorbanant stadium (like Jerry Jones is in Dallas). I was floored to hear that in Dallas and other big cities, you have to buy your seat for thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars (doubtful this is revenue shared), then pay every year for the tickets on top of it. So, while the premise is correct that they could bump the ticket prices... but that isn't the type of $ other team's owners are getting. I don't know if the season ticket "buyer" can sell that seat later or not... probably not... but when you're shelling out that kind of cabbage, I suppose you can afford it...
  6. I am curious what others think here... I'm beginning to think Marv would be much better than the "GM by committee" we have today...
  7. We can send a message to the rest of the NFL - send in the 3rd string your first week, instead of your last week of the season... we're giving our starters a rest early... then week 2 we'll be so well rested it'll continue through the season and on into the superbowl.
  8. Is there a more pointless arguement than whether Peters deserves more? I have never heard one person here (or anywhere) say he doesn't deserve more. What I have heard is the Front Office isn't going to offer him more for this season. But, you have to show up to work to make your claim... not sit at home and wait for an offer that will never come. I don't think his agent has asked for a renogotiation... They seem to expect the Bills will make him an offer blindly - which simply isn't going to happen... the fact he was injured and missed the final game, his 1 pro bowl opportunity, and had surgery only adds to the fact they aren't going to make him an offer. The longer he is away from the conditioning & training he'd recieve in Orchard Park, the longer his rehab will take. As far as Willie Anderson goes... you have to ask yourself why he was released... And, he hasn't already snared a contract - although I heard last night San Diego has their eyes on him as well.
  9. THe report said he'd report "Monday"... not "Monday 9/1/2008"... Just some Monday... I'm sure I trust unnamed sources...
  10. Which is why they should print a synopsis of articles hitting the keys, and make the extended versions available online... They can restrict it to subscribers only... Newspapers are killing themselves to a degree - they put all the news that's fit to print online - often the day before it shows up in papers... With smartphones and laptops, even commuters don't read the paper anymore... they are too busy working on the train. I am as guilty of this as anyone - but the Internet somehow became "free information access"... I can remember when some places tried to charge for information, some still do (ESPN Insider)... but for the most part, any information you want is out there. On this thread topic... what would it cost to pick up the phone and call someone more local to his home in Texas and have them do a drive-by... to see if he's around? they don't have to stake out the place... maybe we should hire a private investigator to check for us... I'm sure some posters here would pay to know... (not me though, I'm willing to wait with the Bills, at least through week 1.)
  11. It's more for the Confidence of this young team... and, assuming Peters doesn't show up - it shows him that he isn't nearly as important as he thinks he is... If - on the other hand, Walker is an open door on Edwards' blind side, then the season will definately get off to a poor start - and Peters will only entrench himself even more. Young teams - especially this one which hasn't won as much as it should (for whatever reason - fluke plays, etc), can quickly get down on themselves. No one on this team - other than our SB LB, has experienced nearly enough wins to gain confidence. So, that makes this first week more important... as everyone knows... to have a winning record in the NFL, you HAVE to win your home games. I predict a win this week... Seattle always has trouble on the road when having to go all the way across the country. This is a "should" win, and to me, for a young team, that makes it a "must" win... for their confidence as much as anything else.
  12. I find it fascinating how a lot of people here tell us how dumb the national analysts are when they predict a losing record... Then, when the Bills post a losing record, they're somehow surprised - and the analysts are still idiots. I'm not about to say it's because of one position or another... but I don't see the 12-4 or 10-6 marks so many here are predicting against the current of most analysts who say 7-9 to 8-8... Call me bitter... I used to be one of those who thought the analysts just didn't respect the Bills... The truth is, the Bills haven't shown anything yet to presume 10 or more wins this offseason. Is this a better team this year than last? Sure... but the NFL isn't a vacuum... Nor is it an even set of scales which presume that if one team improves - others diminish... The Bills need to improve MORE than the rest of the AFC - or at least catch up to them. I see a 9-7 record this season if we catch a few breaks... I"m not buying the Jet's at 12-4 either... but they're closer to 10 wins imho than my beloved Bills right now. With or without Jason Peters - who definately diminishes the odds for Buffalo.
  13. Buh bye wright.... tooo many dropsies this preseason.... What a bummer... I liked him much better than A-Strain...
  14. The Fair Catch signal is standard inside the 10... actually fair catching it is rare... I would suck at ST... I overthink everything and would probably catch it too... To say nothing of the fact I'm a slow old dude...
  15. Preseason is a necessary evil... The Owners will never give up games where they DON"T PAY PLAYERS! One of the biggest problems, imho, w/ the NFL is it's short 16 game schedule... every game is important, unlike in MLB, NBA, and NHL... you can't really afford to lose many games and remain in contention... So, that sort of forces teams to use the preseason more to get ready, rather than simply as a tryout for Training Camp Scrubs... And the longer your starters are in, especially when you have a rookie trying his damndest to make a team by doing something special, the more likely you are to lose a player to injury.
  16. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for that. I don't necessarilly agree with everything, including their player scores at the bottom... But then, I guess if you are basing strictly off actual stats, and not potential, it's probably accurate. They don't seem to have much belief in Edwards.
  17. The NFL Network should provide this themselves... We get their advertising throughout the game, their advertisers have to like that... which is probably why nothing is done about it. Who's losing? NFL Network - they could get more $ from advertisers if it was legit. Commercial Producers - they get paid based on who sees the ads, and these are viewed outside of their realm... Who's winning? Advertisers - free viewing of their ads. Fans - free viewing of games they want to see. If the NFL were to sell this capability (which they probably can't due to deals w/ DirectTV), it'd sell like hotcakes... course I'd say they should do it for free - based on their sponsors paying for the additional advertising - the same way the networks do it... I don't think the networks bought Internet Broadcast rights... maybe in their next contract they will... And NFL salaries will go up again... Pssst... Don't tell Goodell there's a new revenue source - until he absolutely guarantees the Bills are staing in Buffalo... My guess is, during the preseason we'll find these things, but during the season... you'll be hard-pressed to find any games online...
  18. In terms of this aside conversation... If Peters approached another team, and the other team responded... it's Tampering... you have to get permission to talk to other teams. I am in agreement w/ plenzmd1... that he'll have to report prior to Friday and he'll have to pass a physical - or be put on PUP list - but he could also be put on the Non-Football Injury PUP list if it weren't related to his injury from last season - and that's where "holdouts" go anyways... for that list, there are no game-checks. If his surgery went awry after last season, he could also be put on IR...
  19. SDS - you sure? If he is on the roster... he gets a game check as far as I know. (now, I don't think he has to be "Activated" to be paid...) And the game check is 1/16th of his base salary (not bonuses). If he's on the Non-Football Injury list (which is where I've heard holdouts go during the regular season). Then he won't be paid game checks. I don't know about IR... And it also gets muddied if you're a Veteran at some point in your career, in terms of how much counts in Cap space... I recall one season they cut a vet - and signed him after the first week so they could save a bit of cap room ... back when we were really strapped.
  20. My point is basically... if he waits until 4:30 on the Friday before the first game to "report"... will he be able to get paid for week 1? Are the Bills obligated to make a roster move to accomodate him at that time? My gut feeling is no... But, I'm curious when he would have to report in order to get his game check. I sent a query to John Clayton asking this question, but I'm not sure if he'll answer it or not.
  21. Aren't all but Mirer on the visible page ex-bills? Thanks Drew... not only did you make our team worse, you convinced your teammates to invest in a bum deal...
  22. 113 views.... not one answer? Sheesh... I figured someone here was a freak and knew the CBA by heart...
  23. Maybe you're thinking of the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list... but as I recall that list works goofy... it's not as useful as it should be. The rules are set up to prevent teams from abuisng the weird exceptions to the 53 man roster.
  24. IR = End of Season for a player... it's not like the disabled lists in Baseball... etc. So they can't store them on IR. The process of getting a player back is insane - you have to reach an injury settlement and cut them, then resign them... Unless your the Pats*... then you use 'em like practice squad players until you get caught. If Peters is a no show by cut-down day - you have an extra roster spot for an extra TE... then as it gets closer - or if Peters reports they'll have to make another move.... My hope is one of them will be ready soon enough it won't much matter... 1 week isn't going to kill you.
