  1. Buddy said post draft he was going to bring a QB in. He did. Perhaps that will be the end of the story. I don't mind having VY in camp to see if he'd be + for the roster... I would mind if he was obviously not a + and he was kept instead of someone better suited. Now - having learned about the Talley stuff makes me really leery of his character... Not because Talley was a Bill, but because it takes a special maroon to insult someone (even accidentally), then throw salt in it trying to be a jokester - and probably still didn't know who he was since he was coming to OBD... It'd be pretty damn fitting for VY to be here when Talley makes it on the Wall... *awkward* I don't think low character folks make good QBs in the NFL... Leaf comes to mind... Hey, if we're looking to bring in a QB, I bet that Russell kid is available.
  2. I did not see this article anywhere - but I didn't get to all 17 pages... http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2012/05/01/nix-offers-clarity-on-young-workout/ Basically confirms that he's being evaluated as a Backup, and reaffirms the Nix love for Fitz. To me that statement is just as much to VY as it is to the fans... VY would be an improvement over Thigpen. We could do worse as far as distractions go - and they can give him a short rope, it isn't like he had teams beating down his door.
  3. Not meant to be a dis... Offseason Power rankings? Seriously? Everyone is undefeated. Does that mean all teams are equal, probably not, but no one has a clue how anything will turn out. Offseason rankings are about as meaningful as Week 5 power rankings. Almost Every team improved itself in the draft - but every offseason also brings a negative to the team from the prior year based on aging players, Free Agents lost, Retirements, coaching changes, etc. The question is - if you had the ability to distill all that information properly to see which team *really* improved, how would they rank? No one has that knowledge, least of all those who think they do. The Bills got better overall in my opinion. Did their improvements allow them to catch up? We'll know that after week 10. We'll have played the Patriots twice and had what should be a tough road test in San Francisco. If we have won 6 games by then(6-3), we'll know the team has improved enough to likely make the playoffs (the truest test for us).
  4. I was thinking Mad Dog - but that appears to be an "easy out"... I also like Marcellasaurus. I'd like to call him "The Big Easy" - as a predictor of playing for all the marbles in the superdome.
  5. If your defense can't get off the field - and the other teams run run run... that's going to impact your offensive output. By improving the Defense, we should be able to provide better field position and put less pressure on it. Not one of those draft analysts is going to eat crow later when those QB's do nothing. Let's see how the defense does next season - when our 7th round NT sits on Brady. For some reason I really like that kid, I think it was the drive he had to lose weight, his wonderlic score being high, and the athletic skills even at his size. Can you imagine if he's able to drop more fat and add more muscle with real strength/conditioning?
  6. The Interview was a radio interview @ 5:30... After eball commented, I read the transcript at BB.Com where it said he switched from DL to RT to meet their need - but he feels Defensive line is his natural position. I think it's pretty cool that the scouts urged him to drop to under 400 and he dropped even more - sounded like he was extremely happy with being drafted at all and appreciates the opportunity. I think this kid is going to pour himself into his new job - the lockout really sucks. Now they can't even communicate with him since he's on the roster. I wonder how much contact teams can have with potential UDFAs? there could be more underground coaching going on.
  7. http://www.radio.pressbox1.com/ This is from the local station. I can't listen at work - but maybe someone else can. He was not a DT at Bethel - he's listed there as OL. I think he's probably being taken as an OT project ala Peters. Bethel has Bass Fishing as a sport - now there's something I didn't know you could compete at collegiately. www.bethelathletics.com
  8. I think they will draft Cannon. He was the only OL they brought to Buffalo. Yes it'll be taking a medical risk, but it is a good risk to take. Then Acho w/ the second pick. (but others here have said the same, I'm merely an echo to a good idea.)
  9. Trade Down if possible - someone is going to want that high pick today. Orlando Franklin - OL from Miami. Otherwise Justin Houston.
  10. To pick one small nit... they were 2nd worst by the blogger. Not the worst as the topic title would suggest. I don't disagree w/ the blogger that the draft didn't have an immediate impact. Last year was year 1 of the latest "rebuilding" campaign... we'll have to see how it works out this year (assuming there is a this year). When your team finishes in the bottom 5 of the league - is there much positive to say about them?
  11. Thanks for this. I'm sort of tired of the "fans" who don't like Fitz because he isn't going to win a championship - or he'll hurt our chances at an early bust (erm. pick) next year. We need to stop trying to be "educated" fans and just watch and enjoy the game. We are not as smart as the coaches on this team, believe it or not. If you were, you'd give up your full time job and start coaching at your local High School, then hope to move up to the college and finally the professional ranks. What we all are is great at pointing out mistakes. Guess what? They see 'em too! It doesn't take the frustration of 10, 20, 30, or more years to see them. I've learned to stop worrying, and love the Bills. You should too!
  12. It ain't meaningless... It's important to get it out there.
  13. And here I was sort of hoping it was something Special... I found a pretty useful website after posting this which showed me that Travis Henry started his first game, as did Thurman... Antowain didn't & neither did McGahee... I forgot that Lynch did too. So, it isn't really special at all. Oh well. I still think (hope) Spiller is going to be fun to watch.
  14. For the Bills... We've had so many decent young RB, but it seems to me most didn't get the start their first season. (then again, maybe I just have a bad memory).
  15. Bowery4 - Touche... It is a childhood disease, maybe I deluded myself into thinking I could choose otherwise... I'm in it for the long haul. About the only thing to break the tie would be if the team moves.
  16. Former Player or not... Sad to see people leave. I'm not a former player and I don't spend nearly the time I used to spend here since the board has "evolved" into something else. There are still a core of good people here, but the amount of crap which is posted anymore doesn't make it worth my time to read. I'm a fan, nothing more. I like to think I'm an "educated" fan, but the truth is I never played the game at any level and couldn't begin to break down an offense or a defense. Reading about why XXX sucks or how we got screwed by YYY or how could Ralph not pay blah, blah, blah gets old. I remember the days when this board was young... I miss those days, because at least then we didn't have all the complaining - or at least there was agreement about what to complain about. So many years of dismal performances, bad luck, and mismanagement has brought us to this point... but I doubt even a superbowl win would change things here for long, people are too accustomed to complaining. If I want to hear complaining, I'll go eat lunch in the lunchroom with my co-workers, at least they complain about things which are relevant to my life. To any former players who read this - Thank you very much for your time here. And thank you even more for playing for the team I choose to love.
  17. I'm with the players on this one. To be honest, I'd drop a preseason game and add 2 teams to the playoffs. Keep the Regular season 16 games. They'll make much more money on the extra playoff games than they do on the PS... And the players will be healthier. I think this is a bargaining ploy by owners, they're going to drop the 18 game thing as a concession to players in order to get them to agreement on the new CBA.
  18. Well, while turnover isn't "great"... only 3 of our released players are on teams other than "TBD" (which doesn't stand for Two Bills Drive). So, no one else wants them either (yet). So, that doesn't make turnover a bad thing if you cut bad players. There's probably going to be a few more names added to that list before camp closes - Schobel for one... Also, they have 7 unsigned draft picks with a full 80 man roster, so 7 more players will go - and I wouldn't be surprised if there were another name from our 2009 team.
  19. I don't see the fascination with tweeting... but I am on twitter - just so I can catch what the Bills players tweet... (mostly rubbish).
  20. Questions raised by this article - If Spiller is going to be help as a receiver out of the backfield... That helps any QB, not just Edwards. Is Edwards somehow better suited to throw Checkdowns than other QBs on the roster? Is the lack of downfield throws due to protection? Was it due to Owens/Evans not being open? Was it due to him being weak armed? This question can be answered in camp. Give him no pressure from the defense and see if he can accurately throw the deep ball - but have the DB's out there. If he can do it, then it could be protection - or it could be mental (perhaps all the abuse he took in college combined w/ that in Buffalo has made him gun shy?) I leave it to Gailey & company to figure this thing out. We showed Fred Jackson was fairly effective in the Wildcat last year (at least as my weak memory recall he threw a bomb). So, maybe that's a change of pace to keep a defense honest... Also, using Spiller out of the backfield in the slot/motion ought to help too. No matter what though... it always comes back to the O-Line... If they can't be effective, nothing else will be effective.
  21. They'll never officially say I'm sure - short of someone at a presser asking point blank and Nix feeling comfortable enough to answer... My gut tells me it was Dan Williams based on what NeverGiveUp had been saying pre-draft about them really liking Williams - that and they went DT w/ the next pick.
  22. I've been a bills fan since the early 80's - and as long as the Bills remain in Buffalo, I'll continue to be a Bills fan. That said... They, like everyone - and everything, aren't perfect. So, I will complain about them once in a while. Do I "know" I could do a better job than Nix, Gailey, Wilson, etc? No, I know quite the opposite. But, that doesn't mean I can't question what seems like a mistake to everyone. To this I add: I'm overall disappointed with the "team". Winning teams have stability - which is what they haven't managed to do at all... at ANY level! Rotisserie in Front Office, Coaching, Players (namely QB). I did some statistical analysis of QB's in the last 10 Superbowls... On Average they were with the team who drafted them for 4 years. (2 came by Trade and 1 via FA) Who is the last Bills QB who got 4 years w/ the Bills (draft or otherwise)? Jim Kelly. Not one other QB was given 4 years to play, we pulled the rug out from under the rest of 'em in about 2 years. After Wade Phillips - we did the same w/ the Coach. Impatience doesn't equal success. I think they had a decent draft. You can't address every need in one draft. see stability - Start the best QB (probably Edwards) based on actual performance and stick with them through the season. One of the keys to success in Football, as in life, is patience. Which we've lost any and all of. The "Fan(atic)s" tend to be impatient because it's been so long since we had a playoff game... I'm a "Fan", but a patient one who is sometimes upset.
  23. I'll give one thing which told me a LOT about the faith they lack in Trent... Having Fred Jackson throw the 27 yard pass to Evans. Wildcat is a gimick - the QB should be throwing those, but Trent doesn't seem capable. How many QB's has this franchise churned up w/ showing zero confidence in them and yanking them after only a few bad games? QB's after Kelly (from memory - I may have missed 1 or 2): Todd Collins Alex Van Pelt Rob Johnson Doug Flutie Drew Bledsoe JP Losman Trent Edwards Ryan Fitzpatrick Outside of Bledsoe - did any of them really ever seem to have the confidence of the coaching staff? They were all starting while looking over their shoulder.
