Week 4 Around the league.

Ignominy just gave up a TD reception to Seattle with 5:24 left. 9 point game. Over-ish. -

I thought they were about a .500 team coming into the season, and I've seen no reason to change my mind about that. They're not a joke like last year, and they're going to upset a couple of teams. I mean, they hung with us. -

Miami picks off Wilson in the end zone to keep the game within reach. Huge play. -

Yeah, but did you notice that when Jackson overthrew an open receiver by a good three yards on that deep ball, he was praised by the announcers for having a really strong arm? Somehow, I think the commentary would be slightly different if Allen threw the exact same pass. -
Is Mahomes better than Josh Allen and Tre White ... now?
BillsFanSD replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is all true, but it's worth noting that Allen was drafted by a team with just a defense and he turned out just fine. Knowing what we know now, I suspect that if the Bills had drafted Mahomes, McDermott and Daboll would have developed him successfully. He probably would have developed faster than Allen, considering that he was further along than Allen coming out of college. (Not a knock on Allen obviously -- we should all be able to agree that he was the rawest QB prospect to come along in quite some time). Of course, Mahomes would not have a SB ring, but he would have the Bills in contention just like we are now. But like you said, this is all academic. The Bills obviously were never drafting Mahomes, and it's weird that people keep wringing their hands over this pick. It turned out great for both franchises. -

I was thinking the exact same thing as I was rewatching the game last night. This was prompted by one of the announcers saying something about Jim Kelly was probably watching Allen run the option and cheering, which was kind of weird because I can't imagine JK ever ran an option after graduating from high school. Kelly was a prototypical pocket passer like Marino. If you're going to compare Allen's game to somebody from that era, it would probably be Elway, not Kelly. But the comparison to Kelly is spot-on when it comes to their general approach to football. Kelly and Allen are both essentially linebackers who happen to play QB. Kelly was famously recruited by Penn State to play linebacker. If Allen lined up at MLB, you would never know he was out of position besides the fact that he's not wearing a linebacker number. Kelly stayed in the pocket, but he was never afraid of getting hit. Allen actually initiates contact with defenders and outmuscles defensive ends. How can a Buffalo fan NOT cheer for this?

I agree with you, but think about how wild that is. If I told you in 2018, before the draft, than one of the five first-round QBs would be a total bust who appeared in only a handful of NFL games, we all would have assumed that Mr. Bust would have been either Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, right? Those two guys were the two rawest prospects by far out of that draft class. But as it turned out those are the only two clear "hits" out of that class. I'd say the jury's still out on Mayfield, Darnold is looking more like a "miss" with each passing week (playing for the Jets doesn't help), and we all know what happened to Wrong Josh.

Good for him. I like Hauschka and I hope he does well. Also, #$%* Doug Marrone.

Brian Daboll is on the hotseat starting TOMORROW
BillsFanSD replied to Penfield45's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he's as good as gone, unfortunately. Everybody -- including the most die-hard JA supporters -- new that Allen was a raw boom-or-bust pick before the draft. The fact that Daboll made him into a stud is going to get him a job. (Not saying that this is all Daboll of course, just that guys who appear to develop QBs get HC gigs). -

As great as Allen has been, the defense needs to get it turned around. You can't count on lights-out play by #17 in every single game. -

Josh Allen really should have apologized before the game for running over the official's dog. I assume something like that happened given the officiating. -

I had the Bills winning a close one, so this game just went as I expected. LOL. -
Well, I opened up my wallet and bought Motor's t-shirt this week. So this would be a really good week for him to rip off 120+.

I love Ed Oliver, but yes that should have been a penalty and yes it's dirty. Also, it's good for your mental health to file away plays like that where the officials blew a call that worked in our benefit. It helps balance out the pain when a bad call goes the other way.
