This is what happens with this OC, he out thinks himself. Just keep running...they get to the 2 yard line and suddenly they need to pass? Result, negative yards! Then a trick toss play, result negative yards! On 3rd down another pass play but the ball is juggled and another loss on the play. From the 2 to the 16...FG. Thank the lord the Bills have a good kicker!

Most of those other QB's have far more experience in reading defenses and setting protections along with quickly finding the open receiver. Knowing that this QB is still developing, learning his craft and only has one season of game starts, does anyone thinks its a smart move to make him the focal point of the offense to make plays? Clearly whats happening is when the Bills go to a two TE, FB, RB set the opposing team understands that the Bills are gonna run the ball and stack the box. Its up to the OC to confuse the defense and make them think something else is going on. Its why Chan Gailey was so successful in running out of a one back, 5 wide shotgun spread formation. When you spread out the offense the defense must do the same and if you have 4-5 WRs on the field the defense usually goes into a nickle/dime defense. This causes mismatches all over. What I would love to see is the Bills taking a long hard look at Minnesota and what Gary Kubiak is doing there...with his zone running, heavy play action. Granted, the Bills don't have RB Davin Cook at RB, but what they do have are underutilized. Far, far too many penalties, pre-snap and other wise on the O line, offense. Too many late incoming play calls so the offense is forced to use a time out or take a delay of game. Not running the ball enough, and although the Eagles were keying on Gore and stuffing him to 3.8 YPC AVG. Yet Singletary was getting 6.3 YPC...so why not run him more? After the Eagles game I have a new grade for Daboll...F !

Philly fans really are the worst

Philly fans openly peeing on their own fans from the upper deck to down below...in their drunken stupor! Never saw or heard of that at the Ralph, Rich Stadium, New Era. -
All good points. Allen didn't come out of the draft as an NFL polished QB that should start day one like Darnold or Rosen. Mike Mayock stated he thought Allen should sit and learn for a season. Well hell, that didn't happen because the guy they pegged as the starter was a complete waste. Knowing this what does that tell you about the offensive coaching staff? It tells me that they really don't know what they are doing. Besides that Allen's first QB coach was never a past QB coach as he was an assistant WR coach previously. Look back at how bad last years offensive line was where most of the time Allen needed to run to evade the rush. This happened so often and he was so good at it that the OC put in designed QB runs. Lastly, the current Bills OC has never fielded an offense better then 22nd in his previous four stints as an NFL OC. Coaching has so much to do with how well a QB is developed and plays. Manning had Tom Moore as his OC. Brees had Cam Cameron as his OC and who is the very same OC who developed Joe Flacco. Oh yea, one more thing. Allen currently has 1493 passing yards after playing in 7 3/4 games so far. Now extrapolate that out another nine games... and he will have a 3000+ yard season with at least one 300 yard game. Plus, hopefully he stays healthy! Daboll needs to stop with the designed QB runs.

Om regards to the deep ball. I think that McD/Beane made it known they wanted Josh to have a better completion % to justify drafting him when they did. Hence the signing of Cole Beasley to help with that shorter passing game which also helps with the completion percentage. Know this, Allen wasn't a high percentage passer in college because they didn't run the bubble screens and short passing schemes at Wyoming. Allen threw in an NFL pro style offense with a lot of deep passing. That said, this scheme Brian Daboll is running this year is kinda new to Allen so he is getting used to running it. They aren't throwing the deep ball much for a few reasons I believe as one Robert Foster has been injured and only recently recovered. Next they simply aren't throwing that deep ball in practice often enough to get the timing down. Another thing is that the receivers are still getting used to catching Allen's fastball, and Allen is still working on making that shorter passing game work. I think the 300 yard passing games will come as both the receivers and QB get more experience playing together. The entire offense is a work in progress as Deboll figures things out. Judging by the Bills PC I think he got a swift kick from McD for not running Singletary more and perhaps putting to much of the offense on that young QB's shoulders. JMHO

Do you think the Bills are doomed to repeat 2008, 2011?
Nihilarian replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No! The 2008 season was marred by that concussion on Trent Edwards. The Bills also lost pass rusher Aaron Schobel after 5 games and that was the end of that! The Miami Dolphins took the division that year with an 11-5 record. That's also the year the Patriots lost Brady after one game. 2011 Fitz got Fked up by the Redskins in week 8 and broke some ribs and he played hurting most of that season. The next week the Bills lost Eric Wood for the season and had great difficulty snapping the ball after that. Week 11 against Miami was a joke because they couldn't snap the ball correctly to save their lives. Besides that Bills defense was horrid under George Edwards that year. This season the Bills have to have the weakest schedule I've ever seen them have 1-7 Redskins, 2-5 Browns, 0-7 Dolphins, 2-6 Broncos... 4-3 Cowboys, 5-2 Ravens...3-4 Steelers, 8-0 Patriots, 1-6 Jets. -
Rex Ryan badly miss-used almost every defensive player in Buffalo. He had pro bowlers in Mario Williams and Marcel Dareus openly complaining about his scheme. That just goes to show that improper coaching can ruin a player. We also know that the reason Belichick is so darn good is because he is so darn prepared because he watches so much film on every opponent and he takes no team lightly. In regards to Gilmore, some great players can get by without elite coaching and with others it takes them to the top of their game. Lawrence Taylor would have been great despite playing for Rex Ryan as was Revis.

Put Bills trade talks today here.
Nihilarian replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both lines were manhandled by the Eagles, DT, OT, WR. Trent Williams. AJ Green. You know, I wasn't that high on Clowney when he was available ...and right about now that guy would be worth a first. -
I agree with this. I have no idea why this team doesn't run the ball more and utilize Singletary more often.

Eight and he has only lost three. The game was played in a rainy, windy environment that wasn't conducive to a lot of passing. Yet the Bills OC calls for 34 passes vs 24 for the Eagles. The opposite for the run game which should have been the focus of the Bills offense on a lousy weather day Bills 20 rush attempts for 98 yards vs Eagles 41 rushes for 218 yards, 3 TDs. Another big factor that not many mention is all the penalties on the offense that helps kill drives. Plus the game calls coming in late now and again that the offense uses a time out or when they run out of those they take a delay of game. What's gonna happen when the snow gets here...is the OC still going to go pass happy when he should be pounding the rock? Oh, and on another note. The Eagles beat the 7-1 Green Bay Packers in Green Bay. So, they can be formidable.

A Message of Calm from a Josh Allen Skeptic...

Josh hasn't looked good in the first half of games for most of the season when the team comes out passing. The second series first play was a six yard pass completion, so It wasn't like the 1970s. The Bills were basically dominated on both sides of the ball on the lines. The Bills run D had a bad day and the O line had a bad day. Although the Eagles looked to shut down Gore pretty good. Singletary looked somewhat better. From what I see Daboll gives up on the run to quickly at times and playing in a rainy, windy day asking the QB to throw 34 times was simply not the right thing to do. Its a 16 game season and games like this happen. I don't blame the QB who threw 2 TDs and no INTs. -

On the contrary, I think you are! https://billswire.usatoday.com/2019/10/23/report-bills-on-the-hunt-for-wr-at-trade-deadline/ Per a report from ESPN’s Dan Graziano & Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. Both are pretty big names and several different sites picked up on that story. Exactly how many links do you need to see before you comprehend the term widely reported? Google it? Actually, never mind! Clearly, there is no conversing here. Its just one opinion that matters. -

It wasn't? https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2019/10/buffalo-bills-kicking-the-tires-on-wide-receivers-had-interest-in-emmanuel-sanders-report.html "As the NFL trade deadline nears, another report has surfaced that the Buffalo Bills are looking to upgrade at the wide receiver position. The latest report comes from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. In his latest article on the NFL trade deadline heating up, Breer mentioned Buffalo among the teams looking at available wide receivers." https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2019/10/24/20931004/nfl-trade-rumors-buffalo-bills-pursued-sanders-still-seeking-wide-receiver-emmanuel-sanders-interest From Oct 24th, same source, different site. Another day, another report that the Buffalo Bills are seeking to upgrade their wide receiver corps via a trade. Late Tuesday, word came down that the Bills were “on the hunt” for a receiver and today they are “kicking the tires” on wide receivers, according to The MMQB’s Albert Breer. ----------------------------- They might have been refereed to as "smurfs" by McD. However, Zay Jones is 6'2'' & Duke Williams is 6'3'' 225 lbs. ---------------------------- Dude, take a zanax or start heavily imbibing as you need to relax. The Eagles also beat the 7-1 Packers in Green Bay! BTW, Allen completion percentage previous to this Eagles game was at 63% and after is still 60.1%. This loss was not on the Buffalo Bills QB. He didn't allow 31 points and couldn't stop the Eagles from running 41 times for 218 yards, 3 TDs!!! Allen didn't decide to call 20 run plays vs 34 passes. The QB didn't cause 8 Buffalo Bills penalties for 57 yards. My entire point in this thread was to comment on the Bills OC who is not doing a very good job with the offensive scheme. The entire focal point of the offense is placed on the young QB's shoulders to make plays from the start of the game and it clearly isn't working. The Bills are averaging 8.5 penalties a game and mostly from the offense! The team keeps using time outs on offense and at times have taken a delay of game because the play isn't getting in quickly! Offensive play calling is very suspect! That's all on the Bills offensive coordinator! -
A Message of Calm from a Josh Allen Skeptic...

It's been widely reported that the team is looking for another receiver and were in talks with Denver about Emmanuel Sanders who ended up in SF. So, if Brandon Beane was happy with all that separation the current receivers are getting, why would he be looking for another WR? Matt Barkley came in for Allen against the Patriots and played around ten min of the 4th QTR. In that time he threw an INT, he was sacked, he fumbled, called for a penalty because of a delay of game because he didn't get the play off in time. The Bills line also was called for a false start...so its not just on Josh Allen. As to the frustration in why Beasley slammed his helmet, its easy, because they just didn't connect on that third down play. Josh was hitting the deep ball a lot last season and he is not hitting them this year. Lots of QBs have misses now and again. Allen currently has a 62.4 completion percentage and Brown is the second most targeted with the better completion percentage. 73.3 vs 65.2 Beasley is the more targeted receiver with the lesser completion percentage despite that he might get more separation. -
A Message of Calm from a Josh Allen Skeptic...
Nihilarian replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How much more proof do you need to see to understand that although Allen has a great arm, that is he is still very raw and developing as he plays. Clearly, he should NOT come out throwing and be the focal point of the offensive scheme at the start. He is not an elite starting QB just yet. First off, most every draft pundit stated that Josh Allen was a "project" QB that needed to sit and learn for a year. Instead he was thrown into the fray in the very first game because this coaching staff miss judged the starter in Nathan Peterman. You yourself stated you thought Allen was graded as a third round pick and needed time to develop. Plus, the Bills don't have that "go to" receiver that is always open, always getting separation! Not at the WR position or the TE position. Or, the pass play designs are not allowing the receivers to find those open lanes. Some have been, but mostly not. I go back to that first drive in the second half of the Miami game in which the offense came out running with four straight runs and ended a 98 yard TD drive with 6 passes, 6 runs and Josh going 6 for 6 passing. That drive was also marred by a -10 yard holding penalty on Buffalo, which they overcame. You may see Josh as a QB that needs to throw from the start to find rhythm. I think he needs to realize the onus isn't on him to make all the offensive plays from the start and thus is calmer, more settled down as he plays. He didn't start the second half of that Miami game by slinging it all over as the Bills came out running, found success and allowed Josh to get into a rhythm quickly because he wasn't being forced to carry the offense. What we are seeing is the reason as to why Brian Daboll has never fielded a passing offense better then 23th in yards in a season out of five seasons as an NFL OC. Most of the time his offenses have been near last. He's just not that good. -
After today's loss I wouldn't pencil in any wins as both Miami and the Eagles showed the Bills biggest weakness on defense and offense. The Bills defense can't stop the run! And the Bills OC gives up on the run game expecting the young, inexperienced QB to carry the offense game after game. The current OC sucks and it was most evident today! Against Miami the team got two turnovers by the Bills defense and a TD by special teams. Nobody can reasonably expect this to happen each week. I shudder to think what will happen against the Ravens with their league leading rushing offense.
-
I agree with this! I yearn for the days with Greg Roman, Anthony Lynn. and the days of having the #1 rushing team in the league! I was concerned about the run defense before the bye week against some good RB's and now after the bye Miami ran on them, so did Philly. Out rushed 2018 yards to 98.Only 20 rushing attempts by Buffalo vs 41 for the Eagles. I complained last week about the stupid drive killing penalties and the lack of discipline by the Bills and it showed up again today. The Bills are averaging 8.5 per game and today was no different with 8 penalties for 57 yards.
