This isn't progress!! Why? Exactly how much experience do the Pegula's have in hiring NFL head coaches? DYSS! -

Adam SchefterVerified account @AdamSchefter 7h7 hours ago Former Jaguars HC Gus Bradley is planning to follow Anthony Lynn to any HC job he lands, per sources, creating a Lynn-Bradley ticket. This would be a great first hire for sure. I don't get the change needed in the defensive back seven with Bradley? I wonder who he would hire as OC?

They hired a 4-12 Rex Ryan, didn't they? Sorry about that, mods please merge. -

I watched Brees a lot in his first two seasons and he stunk big time!!! Why does anyone on earth think the team would have used the first overall pick on QB Eli Manning and then traded him to NY when he said he wouldn't play for the Chargers if they knew Brees would be as good as he has developed into? The Giants then picked Phillip Rivers in the draft with the 4th pick to trade for Eli. Thus my entire point! http://www.bigblueview.com/2013/12/4/5168342/eli-manning-philip-rivers-2004-trade-new-york-giants-san-diego-chargers Thank you for that second paragraph, though. -

What you need to realize is that his accuracy and his pocket awareness stunk in 2003 hence the 11 TDs to 15 INTs and a completion percentage of 57.6. Brees made a huge turnaround in his third year of PLAYING! Some Bills fans (not you John) seem to think that simply being on the team and holding a clipboard is equivalent to being on the field and actually playing. The year I was talking about happened in 2003 and in 2004 went 11-4. Brees didn't separate his shoulder until the 2005 season and had surgery that offseason. Miami had a strong interest in Brees but their doctors wouldn't pass him so NO signed him. Thank the good lord! The comparison I'm making is very accurate and very relevant! Brees himself credits that benching by Marty S for allowing him to rethink his patience in the pocket. The entire point is that it took two full seasons of playing before Brees finally came into his own and the difference between 2003 and 2004 is like night and day. -
Good lord this is crazy talk! Prescott is a one in a thousand QB's to come in as a rookie and do what he has done. So many college QB's look brilliant in school only to fall on their faces in the NFL!

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Bills made the decision to move on from Tyrod Taylor (groin) "weeks ago." Taylor has been benched for Week 17 and might need groin surgery despite being left off the final injury report. That surgery could complicate the Bills' plan to move on as Taylor's contract calls for a guaranteed $30.75 million if he cannot pass a physical by the start of the new league year. This saga should dominate the Rotoworld headlines in the early part of 2017. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/352438/bills-decided-on-tyrods-future-weeks-ago?ls=roto:buf:topheadlines&rw=1 From twitter, Bills were aware of Tyrod's groin situation for a few weeks. There's strong sense he will need surgery. Decision to move on made weeks ago https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/814890263801987072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw The guy was right that the Bills (Doug Whaley) wanted to replace Tyrod Taylor with Cardale Jones and fire Rex Ryan after the Steelers game. According to NFL sources, coach Rex Ryan and General Manager Doug Whaley are at odds over the future of quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Ryan wants Taylor to remain the Bills' starter for the balance of this season and beyond, the sources said, while Whaley would like to see rookie Cardale Jones start the final three games after Sunday's clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers. "CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that the Bills could fire Ryan as early as Monday, depending on the outcome of the Pittsburgh game." http://buffalonews.com/2016/12/11/power-struggle-behind-bills-potential-coaching-change/ Now cooler heads prevailed to see if the Bills would actually make the playoffs this season and when they didn't beat Miami they fired Bills HC Rex Ryan. Now we learn that Tyrod practiced this week but EJ will get the start against the Jets. Does this mean the team is moving on from Tyrod Taylor? About the most exciting QB the Bills have had since Doug Flutie! You don't get rid of a playmaker like Tayor, you build around him! Where is Leroi on all this? On another note. So, Doug Whaley is leading the "coaching search" for the next Buffalo Bills HC. Is this anything like Russ Brandon leading the past coaching searches and then have a consensus on who they all like? Because the last time this group of people decided on a head coach they 100% didn't do their proper homework on the guy and hired a 4-12 silver-tongued bum. They all bought into his sob story of how the Jets GM tried to get him fired by not giving him the players needed. (He was probably doing the very same thing again to the owners this year) Clearly, nobody in the Bills FO watched Rex Ryan's 2014 NY Jets 4-12 team and how he looked so lost on the sidelines and lost the players on that team! So, one can only think that the same people will make the same mistakes with this next head coaching hire.

Has Tyrod Progressed In 2 Years
Nihilarian replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is Drew Brees currently an elite top 5 NFL QB? Would you believe that Brees was benched in his second season of starting as he went 2-9 that year in 2003 for San Diego! He threw 11 TD's, 15 INT's went 205 for 356 for 2108 yards. 67.5 rate, sacked 21 times. The very next season SD goes 12-4, Brees goes 11-4 and went 262 of 400 for 3159 yards, 27 TD's, 7 INT's, 104.8 rate! The point here is that Brees got better after two seasons of playing experience and hasn't looked back since. Now granted it all came together for Brees and in some cases, it takes longer for NFL QB's to fully develop. The late great Bills Walsh stated it generally takes four years of playing experience for a QB to fully develop! We fans have seen it take sometimes more time and sometimes less time. This year Tyrod went 7-8, threw 269 of 436 for 3023 yards, 17 TD's, 6 INT's. rate 89.7. Taylor hasn't developed enough to carry the offense on his shoulders just yet. However, who is to say that he won't develop into that player next year or the year after? The QB isn't the biggest reason this team lost games the last two years and has been a playmaker at QB the Bills haven't seen since Doug Flutie! -
Breaking News: Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan Fired
Nihilarian replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line here is Rex Ryan is simply not a very good HC or DC anymore as his defensive scheme is outdated as teams have learned how to defeat it and he only knows that 3-4 scheme. How many years now have the Steelers run that 3-4 zone blitz? How many years have the Ravens run their 3-4? Both these teams have a bunch of #1 picks at linebacker whereas the Bills had most of their all pro talent on the D-line and Ryan failed to figure out how to get the most out of them. Teams have learned how to adjust to that 3-4 of Ryan's and it doesn't work well at all without some superstars at linebacker. In NY Ryan inherited an already built 3-4 from Eric Mangini loaded with talent and just brought in a few guys who knew his play calls from past experience and could set the defense. In Buffalo, he inherited a great D-line with only average linebackers. Didn't you see him running a 4-3 at times in his first year and the players were clueless half of the time! Like I said in other posts, in 2015 it was like Rex didn't want to have a defense that looked like Mike Pettine's 2013 defense in being #2 in the league in sacks, #4 in passing yards allowed while being #28 against the run. So, that first year he ran more of a run stopping 3-4 defense! This year we saw Pettine's defense again with Dennis Thurman calling the plays in leading the first half of the season in sacks and at the end #7 in passing yards allowed while being 28th against the run. Buffalo is currently #5 in sacks with the #4 sacker! This all look familar? -
You're Pegula, how much do you offer Belichick.
Nihilarian replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The man is close to the end of his career and why on earth would he take any job in Buffalo unless he was offered a piece of the team? The thing is BB is not the only man to wins super bowls or build contenders. Pete Carroll is right up there with him and other teams have solid combinations of people who excel at their jobs. Ravens: HC John Harbaugh and GM Ozzie Newsome Steelers: Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. Plus the Rooney family are involved in football decisions since 1936 Denver: team president John Elway and whoever he likes as HC Green Bay: Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson I think if these new owners were smart they would offer one of those people bolded a job. This franchise is desperate for an informed, experienced NFL man at the very top of the org. You could hire a Jim Harbaugh and he would fail with Whaley and Brandon over him. -
Kyle Shanahan for Head Coach. Here is why...
Nihilarian replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's rather obvious, isn't it? Whaley has eventually clashed with the past two head coaches in first a screaming match over the players and lately Rex not starting the QB Whaley wants to see play. Lynn went into a PC and didn't even have the slightest idea as to why Tyrod wasn't starting. He stated he wasn't even in the room when that decision was made and to compound it nobody let him know any details afterward. In all honesty getting to the playoffs is not all that difficult with a halfway decent team. It's about winning in the playoffs and getting to the SB that's the most difficult. This franchise kept spinning it's wheels on different schemes and coaches every few years because the past owner didn't want to pay top dollar for a HC and the cronies involved in that old process are still with the team making stupid decisions. Nothing changes until Terry Pegula clean's house and hires a team president of football operations that has a history of winning. -
If Coughlin becomes HC, should the Bills trade for Eli?
Nihilarian replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They won't hire Coughlin or Marv Levy as Whaley already has Lynn in his sights. The thing is that the Bills announced that Doug Whaley would lead this coaching search, right? So, how does this next hire look different than past hires if Whaley is only leading the search? Didn't Brandon lead the past searches? And if he is still in the room when the Pegula's hire the next HC then what's really changed? It's for 100% certain that nobody in the Bills FO really took a long hard look at Rex Ryan and his Jets teams or they wouldn't have hired him in the first place! I suspect this will be another popularity contest and the guy with the silver tongue wins again. -
Kyle Shanahan for Head Coach. Here is why...
Nihilarian replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
dezertbill does make a compelling case for Kyle Shanahan and he did interview for the Bills HCing job while he was with Cleveland. However, I highly doubt Doug Whaley hires him because he wants someone that won't question the roster and will play who he wants and that's Lynn. -
Season observations, this team is good.
Nihilarian replied to ThrowingFitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I liked what Rex had to say in his first offseason with Buffalo in that being #4 in defense wasn't good enough and as for the playoffs "we're goin"! I really didn't care for the build a bully stuff, though. If you know me I've been bitching about Ryan's defense and scheme since that week two Patriots game when we all saw the soft pass coverage and no pass rush that allowed Brady to set a Buffalo Bills franchise worst 466 yards passing by a single player. This after 46 years of being in the NFL! What's scary now is that the very same people that hired Rex Ryan will be hiring the new head coach and we now know that those people didn't do a very thorough evaluation on Ryan because he was the very same undisciplined player's coach in NY and he had lost the team in his final year there. We saw that lost look on Ryan's face in the two beat downs by the Bills in 2014. After that first game win by Buffalo 42-23 in which the Bills defense forced 6 turnovers by intercepting Geno 3 times after he went 2 of 8 for 5 yards Yeah, that's right two of eight yards passing with three Interceptions! Mike Vick replaced Geno and was sacked 4 times with 1 INT and he fumbled 4 times. And in that first game, Kyle Orton threw 4 passing TD's going 10 of 17 for 238. The Bills run game? Basically, craptastic as they went for only 67 yards on 32 carries. Gee, Rex's defense shut down the run game and was owned by the passing offense...sound familiar? The second Jets game in 2014 Rex Ryan boasted his team would play 1000% better and yet they were dominated even worse going 38 to 3. Vick sacked 5 times and intercepted once and Geno sacked 2x. If anyone in the Buffalo Bills front office, Russ Brandon, Doug Whaley or Terry, Kim Pegula had bothered to rewatch those games I highly doubt that they hire Rex Ryan after his final 4-12 season in NY. It's profoundly sad to think that we Bills fans can expect another few years of losing and no playoffs because the very same people involved in hiring the last few head coaches are still making the decisions. Doug Whaley is "leading" the search for a new HC. -
Both those two men made the playoffs within a few years and McDaniels destroyed a good offense while trading away the team's star offensive players. Kyle Orton at helped make McDaniels look somewhat legit just like he did for Hackett. Think about drafting him Tim Tebow a minute...

Kyle Shanahan for Head Coach. Here is why...
Nihilarian replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plus, Atlanta with 502 points scored so far this year and the next team nearest that is NO with 437! Yowsa! Matt Ryan having an MVP season and the Falcon playcalling feeding the ball to the playmakers. It just doesn't get any better! -
While some might agree that McDaniels is the best. I tend to disagree with that by looking back to his time with the Broncos and his inability to get along with Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall while drafting Tim Tebow. To me, it's rather easy being the OC for the Patriots with Tom Brady at QB simply because Brady probably goes over the plays he wants to run in a game with the HC and OC. While we might not see it like we did with Peyton Manning. I think Brady is probably more in control of that offense than any fans are aware of. I say this watching him on the sidelines screaming at his linemen, receivers when they don't execute a play perfectly. JMO. I think the best new head coaching candidate out there is Kyle Shanahan and here is my reasoning. The 2016 Atlanta Falcons have the #1 offense in points and the #2 offense in yards. In passing, Atlanta is 27th in passing attempts, yet #3 in passing yards, #3 in passing TD's and #6 in INTs. This year Matt Ryan has 4613 yards passing in 15 games with 36 TD's and 7 INTs. Ryan is having an MVP season! The run game, Atlanta is 12th in rushing attempts, yet #7 in rushing yards, #3 in rushing TD's. Freeman has 983 rushing yards, 10 rushing TD's and Coleman has 476 rushing yards, 8 rushing TD's The Falcons are currently 10-5 and oddly enough that is because their defense is worse than the Bills with Dan Quinn as HC. Then there is also this, http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/191043-kyle-shanahan-for-head-coach-here-is-why/
-
Same as he would probably take the Buffalo Bills money and still do his masters bidding. I got a kick out of Belichick stating that teams are firing head coaches too soon. Less effort on his part to keep beating up a Rex Ryan team.
