WEEK 15 - ALL 22 REVIEW - O LINE/ QB UNFORCED ERRORS
Nihilarian replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no agenda here save wishing the Bills had drafted someone besides Watkins with that 2014 first pick and traded up to get Derek Carr in the second round. This FO stinks and the WR corps this year shows this. Pretty tough to gauge the starting QB when he has mostly scrubs to throw to all season. The Bills run game stalls during a game and suddenly the power run team turns into a pocket QB throwing team and expect the QB to bail them out. We all know that Tyrod Taylor is a very limited running QB who sometimes finds a big play with a deep ball now and then. This year not so much with a different OC and an injured WR corps. A sometimes turnstile at RT, RG. To me, the bigger problem with the team is the supposed good defense that was #10 in the league from beating bad teams and after they face the 10-2 Raiders and 8-5 Steelers the Bills defense is now 18th and 28th against the run! The team can't run the ball on good teams and look to the QB to bail them out and when he can't due to his limitations he gets all the blame. I see the bigger picture and you only see the QB. -

Matt Moore looking like the QB the Bills should have acquired at some point. -

It's going to take this team going into the crapper for any major changes in the FO. Think about the current situation and that Doug Whaley wanted Hue Jackman as HC. Now someone clearly has let slip they want to see Anthony Lynn as HC and Cardale Jones over the last three weeks (Whaley probably) and that isn't about to happen just yet. So, should Ryan win the next three there might not be any changes made! Should he lose one at some point and the team is out of playoff contention then I suspect we will see Lynn and Jones. Gonna be interesting because the two in current power don't want to hire someone they can't control or have a say over so it probably won't be someone really good. -

Sorry to pee in your Cheerios BB. But alas, it looks like Whaley and Brandon are the only ones Terry Pegula is listening to these days. It was also reported that the new owners have cooled on the idea of hiring a czar or senior adviser at this time. Get ready for more seasons of mediocrity! -

NFL Coaching Hot Seats - Black Monday
Nihilarian replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's gonna be a tough sell for any solid HC to want to come to Buffalo with the way the org is structured. People talk and the others in the NFL knew all about Ralph Wilson and few wanted to work for him. People in the NFL have to know what happened with Marrone walking away (which is unheard of)and GM Doug Whaley not doing the hiring along with the new owners making the first head coach hire. Gonna be interesting if they fire Rex and then can't find someone else better. I'd be in for hiring Wade Phillips too. -

Selling the team when it's 7-9 year after year is a lot easier than if the team had bottomed out like it has in the past. Plus, this fan base has such a rabid bunch of fans.and has been in such fear of losing the team to a different city the fans have kept the team here in Buffalo by buying season tickets and attending games. Not to mention some of the lowest ticket prices in the NFL have kept the fans buying tickets and attending games. Tailgating has become a fine art for the people of Buffalo. Then when the team finally had a winning season at 9-7 the season ticket sales jumped to the highest ever. The Buffalo Bills hasn't been that hard a sell since 1984-85 and back to back 2-14 seasons. After the 2009 season, someone in the Bills FO (cough, cough) let slip that Ralph Wilson would pay up to 10 mill per for the right head coach. After hearing that Mike Shanahan (who was already committed to the Redskins) Interviewed for the Job. It also got Bill Cowher to give a stealth interview in which he stated he would hire Chan Gailey as his OC, among other coaches. No way would RW pay that much but it gave an insight into the assistants Cowher would hire and Gailey ended up as the Bills head coach. The Bills are here to stay so the team had better start winning games to keep tickets sales going. If Rex stays it could get ugly next season unless something happens in the draft or free agency. -
WEEK 15 - ALL 22 REVIEW - O LINE/ QB UNFORCED ERRORS

When you take a long hard look at the Buffalo Bills receiver corps this year I'd say the Bills are more in receiver Purgatory. Sammy Watkins played in only 13 games last year and had 1047 yards and 9 TD's. The player with the most TD's this year is Justin Hunter with 4 and he only has 8 rec for 109 yards on the season. Robert Woods has 43 receptions for 522 yards, 1 TD. Marquise Goodwin 24 receptions for 364, 3 TD's. Sammy Watkins has played injured in only 5 games this season and has 16 receptions for 235 yards, 1 TD. Charles Clay 12 games, 39 receptions for 375 yards, 1 TD! Six Bills receivers are currently on IR, Harvin, Powell, Easley, Listenbee, Annen, Gragg. In 2015 Chris Hogan only had 36 catches for 450 yards and 2 TD's but most of the passes he caught were for first downs. I can only imagine he would have been a big help to the receiving corps this year in Buffalo....had he stayed of course. Clay hasn't lived up to expectations. Woods has one really good game against Seattle 10 rec for 162 yards and then gets injured. I see the Patriots signed Malcolm Floyd and at least they will give him a solid look in 2017. -

Some Bills fans go on a rampage here every time Brandon's name is shown in any kind of derogatory light and yet he really is the man behind the curtain running the show. Besides. Brandon has only been in any kind of real power since Marv Levy retired and Russ took over. What these new owners should have done first thing was to hire that football czar, senior football adviser or team president of football operations to right this listing ship of fools. Until a senior football man is hired not much will change. -

Sadly, It honestly doesn't look good in that regard as Terry only listens to Brandon and Whaley. Terry Pegula was listening to Bill Polian and was thinking about that football czar and now that has evaporated like a water puddle on the sun,. -

On the Rich Eisen radio show... "If Doug Whaley and some other people of the football operations side had gotten their way things would have changed awhile ago". Several people inside the org have been in the owner's ear talking to him about seeing someone other than TT at QB and let's see what Anthony Lynn can do with this team before the season ends. The owner would prefer to wait to see how things go while the team still has an ever so slight chance to make the playoffs. It's been Whaley that wanted the change at QB to see what the kid can do. As for 2017, it would take a remarkable turn of events on this team the next few weeks to see Rex Ryan return to the team next year. -
In what order do these four need to go:
Nihilarian replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with most of this! Coaching is the major concern in that a better HC would have gotten a far better outcome the last two years. This HC was brought in to make use of all the stars on the defense and build a defense for the ages. Instead, that #4 overall defense was made middling with a bad scheme and the one best area of the team in getting pressure on opposing QB's went to last in the league and 31st in sacks! This supposed defensive guru hasn't won a game against a team with a winning QB the last two years save one, Brian Hoyer BFD. The Buffalo defense is currently ranked 17th, 28th against the run. This team was leading the NFL in sacks and had the leading sacker...all the way up until the defense plays against a good team. NO SACKS against the Raiders or Steelers! GM: Some Bills fans don't understand the dislike for the current man in charge of the Buffalo Bills roster and without question Doug Whaley is in charge of the Bills roster! I don't read here anyone even disputing this fact! Yet, this team has several positions on the team that were lacking depth prior to the season and now have become such weak areas that real excuses can be made as to why this team is failing to win games against the better teams. The Safety position: both starters, and backups both need serious upgrades. RT is a turnstile! The WR position: Bills fans just don't realize how badly this team needs upgrades at this position. To date the leading Buffalo Bills receiver with the most TD's is... Justin Hunter who has 8 rec for 109 yards, 4 TD's. Yes, that's yardage for the entire season! Second is Goodwin with 24 rec for 364 yards, 3 TD's. Woods 43 rec for 522 yards, 1 TD Clay with 39 rec for 335 yards, 1 TD. Watkins with 16 for 235 yards, 1 TD. Walter Powell (on IR) 14 for 122 yards, 0 TD Brandon Tate 8 rec for 117 yards, 0 TD Greg Salas with 4 rec for 89 yards, 1 TD Percy Harvin on IR after 2 games Chris Gragg on IR Marcus Easley on IR Take a long hard look at that list to see it's downright pathetic! Last year Sammy Watkins played in only 13 games and had 1047 yards and 9 TD's!! Bills fans fail to comprehend just how bad the current WR situation for Buffalo is in that their #1 WR has only played in 5 games and he was playing injured. Woods has played in 8 games and he also played injured. While we simply don't know how good Tyrod Taylor can be against the better defenses because he has yet to have a solid WR corps to throw to. Bills fans say they see WR's running wide open all over the field and Taylor doesn't see them. I don't know how long those players were open for but what I can say is when you have a WR corps as depleted as this one it is so darn easy for opponents to defend against it. Anyone else thinking that this team could have used a WR talent like Michael Floyd? Brandon: I could care less if the man stays on the financial side or leaves. I just want someone overseeing this franchise that actually knows NFL football and has experience in building a winning franchise! I also could care less if the man wants to sit in on football meetings as long as he has no influence on any football decision. To those that say he has no influence! Someone at OBD convinced these new owners that they didn't need Bill Polian or a football czar and that they "would know who to hire after they interviewed all the prospective candidates"! -
How many picks do we have in '17?
Nihilarian replied to BillsGuru4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This team needs help at so many positions and who exactly will evaluate the draft and free agent talent to determine what positions get upgraded? If it's the same as in years past... it's another wasted season. -
In what order do these four need to go:
Nihilarian replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The first priority is getting an actual, quality, experienced, winning NFL football man at the top of the org chart and allow him to make all the decisions on how to correctly fix this damaged franchise. There is more wrong with this franchise than just a new QB, HC, GM, vampire with his fangs in the owner's neck. These new owners have no clue how to properly run the football side of this franchise and neither does anyone else currently at OBD. I could go into a lengthy diatribe on why each of the four people that require replacement, but nothing really changes until Russ Brandon is finally no longer anywhere near anything to do with the football side of this franchise. To the Bills fans who have an agenda stating that Brandon has not or is not involved in the football side when the man is even in the Bills cut room on the phone to free agent players. The man is and has been in the meeting room in every football discussion since Marv Levy retired in 2007. So many years of losing and because there was no really man in charge of football operations the team had to settle for the baseball, marketing guy involved in every decision. The entire football side of this organization needs to be analyzed by someone with actual football knowledge. The "doctors" and medical staff that give their okay to players with sometimes a long injury history that get signed by the team and get injured again. Percy Harvin, Chris Williams ring a bell? The draft picks that require surgery. I don't trust the Buffalo Bills medical staff to trim toenails. The Buffalo Bill's doctors used to be brilliant like with Thurman Thomas and his suspect knees, bad ankles, Jim kelly and his shoulder separation in college that some doctors said he would never have full throwing arm motion again. The training staff must be revamped as this team used to have minimal injuries and be so fit and conditioned that they could go down to Florida in 98-degree heat and outplay the Dolphins. Rusty Jones where have you gone... I know, I know to the Bears in 2005 and retirement in 2013. (curse you Mike Mularkey) This NFL franchise really is in total disarray to even think about hiring a HC that just went 4-12 and had been in a four-year decline, as the man came in and ruined the one best area of the team he was supposed to be good in. Or keeping a GM that trades away two first round picks for a glass WR when there is no franchise QB on the roster. A GM that attempts to start a rookie QB behind the very worst offensive line in the league and allows a rookie OC,no QB coach or veteran QB to help that rookie. They all gotta go! -
What fans need to remember is that Cutler has had only two winning seasons in his 11-year career and need to remember the talent he had around him on some of those teams.Brandon Marshall, Martellus Bennett, Matte Forte, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Alshon Jeffery all sound familiar? It doesn't get better in Buffalo and yet very limited success with that talent. Me, I'd rather kick the tires on Cardale Jones or draft a QB over a retread like Cutler. In all honesty, if Rex stays or goes it's now time to draft for the defense again, S/CB/DT to replace Aaron Williams, Stephon Gilmore, Kyle Williams. Kinda sucks 2015 was mired by the Watkins trade as the team had no 1st or 4th pick, and 2016 the first three picks were to upgrade Ryan's 3-4 defense.

CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
Nihilarian replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I can gather these new owners are in a bubble and listen to Rex, Doug, and Russ quite a bit rather than being heavily involved and forming their own opinions. They still like Rex and don't see why the majority of the fans no longer like him. My take on this inside leak that said Rex might be fired and Tyrod benched had an agenda to show Kim Pegula what the Bills fan base is thinking, feeling about the team. Anyone else besides me notice that the team had a PC called for 4:40 on Monday only to announce that Tyrod would keep his starting job and at that point in time Kim Pegula let it be known that she would be on twitter talking with fans over the situation. Just my 2 cents. Rex Ryan will probably win the next three games and retain his job ...for another abysmal season in Buffalo... -
Rex's "This is Fine" press conference today - a doozy
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills play three teams with bad QB's and the one team that could really blow Buffalo out of the playoff race had their winning QB go out with an injury. Rex knows he stands a good chance to keep his job with a 9-7 finish as it is an improvement over 8-8. What Rex doesn't realize is that all three teams will now try and stuff the run and force Tyrod to beat them with his arm. Then they will attempt to run the ball on the Bills as Ryan switches to a two-gap run stopping defense...only he had better hope that none of those three QB's get a hot hand. -
Rex Ryan says Buffalo Bills' defense is 'close'
Nihilarian replied to Go Bills!!!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What Ryan understands is his team can beat losing QB's and the Bills next three games are going to get the stats to look better because of it. The Bills will probably finish 9-7 because they can beat the Browns, Dolphins, and Jets. They will still play like **** against good QB's and lose to them so it's only going to prolong the inevitable of him getting before this team makes the playoffs. Rex and Rob stay another year, draft for the defense and have another losing season unless the Bills play 16 games against losing QB's next year. -
This would be hilarious if it weren't the team I want to see win! Anyone think if he hires another ten coaches the team might be able to beat a team with a winning QB? The really sad thing here is I don't think the owners are unhappy with thier HC hire.
-
Playing Tyrod is flat out stupid
Nihilarian replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It makes no sense to bench Tyrod. What does make sense is benching Ryan's defense! Believe it or not, there is still a slight chance the 2016 Buffalo Bills make the playoffs. The Bills haven't beaten a winning QB all season and yet face three scrubs in the next three weeks. So, Bills fans should rejoice that the team will finish 9-7 and the Rex Ryan fans will be doing backflips. The Bills probably keep the Ryan Bros should the Bills finish 9-7. -
IF Rex was willing to only be the head coach....
Nihilarian replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like this year's version of Rex Ryan as he has kept his mouth shut and his foot out of it most of the time. That could all change as soon as this team wins the next three games against bad teams or should I say teams with not so good QB's. Like Dr Doom said, he had his chance with the #4 defense on a 9-7 team and did some things right and a lot of things wrong for a 7th year HC who was in his second NFL head coaching stint! Rex did find a starting QB and brought in the first all pro-OG this team has seen since Ruben Brown and really wanted to sign another in La'el Collins who signed with Dallas instead. What we don't know is how much effort Doug Whaley put into landing Collins because those two players could have elevated this offensive line to the heights of the early 90's. This was the good stuff. The bad stuff was his big mouth and he kept stuffing his foot in it almost every week taunting opposing teams in various ways in his first year in Buffalo. Ruining a great defense in an attempt to fit an outdated scheme on players that didn't fit his scheme. That defense going from first in the NFL in sacks with 3 of the 4 players making the pro bowl in 2014 to none making the pro bowl and 31st in sacks under Rex Ryan. Many, Many Penalties on both sides of the ball. Miscommunication between players on defense so they looked out of position when the ball was snapped. Late play calls and late substitutions on the defense as Rex was the one calling the plays. The coaching staff putting in what looked like very little game planning effort on any team outside of the division in many games. Both years under Rex Ryan his supposed defensive genius mind has allowed his defense to set franchise-worst records for the Buffalo Bills. Against Tom Brady in week two in 2015 with a fully healthy team! The Bills allowed a franchise-worst 466 yards passing and 3 TDs. Those yards are the most by any single passer against a Bills defense in the 46-year history of being in the NFL. And the next franchise-worst was against the Steelers on Sunday when his defense allowed a Buffalo Bills franchise-worst 236 yards, 3 TDs to Le'Veon Bell which BTW was also Steelers franchise best. Things aren't going to get any better under Rex Ryan unless his teams can play a full 16 games against bad teams or teams with bad QB's. Expect the Bills to win the next three games and attitudes around here will turn 180 degrees and he stays for 2017. -
Be honest...who wants to lose to the Browns?
Nihilarian replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can see the Bills winning the next three, Browns, Miami and the Jets finishing 9-7. At the end, we all know even if the Bills should somehow make the playoffs they won't even look good in losing to whatever team they face. Seems like It's Buffalo Bills karma that this should happen and Rex and Rob will be with us for another abysmal season. So many will be cheering Rex for another year because we beat up three crappy teams to finish with a winning record. I still want to see them win no matter what. -
New Chenelly Tweet - Coughlin an option
Nihilarian replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting stuff and the man does seem like he left the NY Giants with something to prove. Another thought is that If there is one man who knows how to beat the Patriots It's Coughlin. The guy does favor a 4-3 defensive scheme and likes to build a stout run game. He also knows what assistant coaches to hire and although it was his defense that failed him in 2015, 30th in pts allowed, 32 in yards allowed. The NY Giants kept the same DC in Steve Spagnuolo and that defense is much better this year 7th in pts, 14th in yards. I'd be for hiring him for whatever he wants to do. Buffalo is currently 7th in team penalties and although it's not as bad as last season in #2, those damn things can kill a drive or stop fast. Coughlin would bring some serious discipline to Buffalo. -
This is correct as the Bills just have different playmakers at different positions. Seahawks in the secondary and Buffalo on the D-line. Let's not forget that Lorenzo Alexander was the leading sacker in the NFL for most of this year and the Bills has the #1 pass rush for a while. These past two weeks against a good team Ryan's defensive scheme has been exposed as an inferior scheme that can't rush the passer against a good O-line. No sacks on Derek Carr or Big Ben. The Bills defense seems to be able to either shut down the passer or stop the run but can't seem to do both at the same time. By this same token Jim Schwartz held the league's MVP passer in Aaron Rodgers to 17 of 42 for 185 yards, no TDs, 2 INT's a 34.3 rating. That year Rodgers threw for 4381 yards, 38 TD's and only 5 INT's! While the 2016 Bills defense managed almost a similar feat against Big Ben, that 2014 defense didn't allow a 100-yard rusher much less 236 yards, 3 TD's.
