LANCE ARMSTRONG AND I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!!!
drnykterstein replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I haven't seen Chef Jim agree with any criticism of the insurance companies. Are you aware of the concept of "insurance". It's not called a crap shoot, it's not called a gamble, its not called a lottery, it's called insurance. It's there to insure you against something going wrong. It insures that if something goes wrong that you can fix it. Insure. The insurance companies insure us against health problems. Even denying one single claim for the sake of profits is outrageous. -

Gladly rescind it if even one person would engage in a response to the numerous examples of insurance company abuse. But no one seems to have any response to it, except to keep attacking those who are trying to point out fault in the insurance companies. -

??? Weird. At what point does something become informative and not "emotional"? Facts are facts, there are 1000's of stories like this. And I don't not think it's fear-mongering when so many examples exist of how it can happen to the best of us. I mean it's pure logic. Capitalist insurance companies want to make money. It's their job. I don't blame them for being evil, they are doing the best they can to please their investors. Screwing over the insurance holders is just a natural result of having for-profit insurance companies. It's not emotional, it's mathematical and logical. -

Plenty of examples of people in this thread of people who did everything right and took care of themselves and still the insurance companies found a loophole and did not pay for their care when they got sick. "Don't get sick" - It's the republican motto. -

I think you are not reading any posts in this thread? The point of it all is to inform you that even good coverage that is paid for you can easily get !@#$ed in the ass by your insurance company at any point. They put a lot of effort into making sure they do a good job of it also. -

Americans protesting against health-care reform is like starving people protesting against food Insurance companies pay their CEO's $10-20 million per year. Insurance companies pay for six lobbyists in Washington per Congressman. Insurance companies spend over $1.4 Million per day fighting against reform. That is overhead that comes out of your pocket. Insurance companies deny people care, even if they are covered. Insurance companies will pull every string and do everything to avoid having to pay money. They will delay payments in hopes of not paying at all. Domestic violence has been claimed as a pre-existing condition and ground for denial. As soon as you get sick they can decide that is enough to deny you coverage. Sometimes they won't even try to beat around the bush, they just outright deny you coverage. 62% of all 1.5 million bankruptcies in 2009 will be medical bankruptcies, and 75% of those will occur despite having medical insurance. 45,000 people die per year because of problems in our health-care payment system. That is, 45,000 people that would be alive to fight for reform, but instead are dead. Universal health-care is the fiscal conservatives choice. The overhead is much-much lower, and that saves us all money, a lot of it. You may be covered. But that does not save you, when you need it most the insurance companies will fight you tooth and nail for their right to legally not pay for your coverage. You may at that point be too sick to fight back. Edit: And dangit read Steely Dan's posts again. Verify his claims on your own, or disprove them. Emotional or not, he's not lying. These are true stories that happen all of the time. With a bit of bad luck you too could easily be one of those stories. -

Either way... what does this have to do with the issue at hand: figuring out how to get money so people can pay these doctors? No one can freeking afford a doctor anymore anyways. Not their fault, its the insurance companies fault. -
avoid. probably won't be one game this season when they are a safe bet.

Tort Reform barely puts a dent in fixing costs, but I'm all for passing it as every dime helps. But it's not even close to being enough. Costs aren't the only problem. Denied coverage, denied payments, slow payments. Every trick that insurance companies can do to make a buck they do. Inevitably in a for-profit system someone somewhere is going to face the decision: save this persons life, or make some money. That is terrible that they would even have that choice. -

That you think Tort reform comes even close to solving the problems of health care is laughable. Are you serious with that? Tort reform is the magic bullet? Get serious man, this is not a joke. You are playing with people's lives here. -

Yes. Well at least for whatever reasons he picked Miami over us. -
I found this quote from Russ Brandon amazingly stupid

Given attendance, perhaps the decision was a good one in that it puts asses in the seats without regard for team quality? If that was his goal, then he should stand by it proudly. -

Hey Chef... you are all "work hard and take care of yourself" right? Lets say next week some time, Thursday perhaps, so on Thursday of next week you (Chef Jim) get a to work in the morning and receive a pink slip. That sucks. Then lets say at about 3:00 in the afternoon your doctor calls you and says you have cancer. ... would you be emotional? -
