  1. The Miami Arena was a victim of timing. In the late 80s, arenas were being build much the same as they had been in the previous 30 years. When the deluge of new arena starting going up in the mid 90s with the large number of luxury suites and fan amenities, the MA paled in comparison. There were enough investors & political will to increase local taxes to build two new arenas, so they did. IMHO, south FL would have lost both the Heat and the Panthers if they would have continued to play in the MA after 1998. BTW, while the American Airlines Arena isn't far from the MA, it is near Bayfront which makes it a bit nicer. I've gone to a few Heat games there but we usually end up parking in a shady area. The Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise is way out near the swamps, but it's a pretty nice venue.
  2. Those zip codes are like the Glengarry leads now.
  3. Illegal immigrants working as landscapers in FL? Can that be true?
  4. This should move it a bit back on topic. She's sneaky hot, like wings.
  5. Let me tell you a story Deano... [scene] Your local corner bar Tinfoil-hat club member: I can tell you with certainty that pigs can fly. Tony the Bartender: Is that so? THCM: Yes it is! Sal in the Corner: I'll betcha $100 buck ya can't. THCM: Sal, you sir are a cad! Sal: Sticks and stones. Speaking of stones, do you have any? Do you want to bet on flying pigs? THCM: I'm not going to argue with you. There's plenty of people who will argue with you at the Pig Flying Society Hall. Sal: I've seen the Hall. There's lots of talk about flying pigs, but no one willing to back claims with evidence. No thanks. THCM: No really. Here's the address. It's lovely and it will get you out of this dreary old cesspool of snarky commenting. Tony: Hey! Watch it! [scene]
  6. That's it... call me "Sparky". Hey you started it. I'm not interested in the politics of it. I'm interested in the voracity (if any) of your assertion. When asked about it, you resort to name calling. Nice.
  7. Want to put some money on that? I'm not saying it couldn't happen (some guy here said the Pats would go 16-0 last year and took a lot crap for it), I just believe it to be HIGHLY unlikely. I'm 38 and in relatively good health, so I should live to be 54. Wanna throw $10k each into a inflation protected bond fund? You win if in Jan 2025, Mrs. Palin is standing next to whomever the republic selects as the 46th president in 2024, basking in the success of her 16 years in the West Wing. I win if anything else happens. What do you say?
  8. The Mets' marketing team is also working on a new logo. Here's a working draft.
  9. On the topic of Del Rio being a jackass, I submit this.
  10. There's actually some video evidence.
  11. Crude is down $6/bbl and the Dow futures are down 400. I hope everyone is doing well after the storms. The Galveston/Houston areas look rough. I'm sure we'll hear about surrounding areas being just as bad or worse just like with Mississippi during Katrina. At least we're 2-0.
  12. Hey Third... It was a nice win. I'm with you, but still tempered by my... well, Western New Yorkness. I'm encouraged by the comeback part of the victory. The Bills bar I was in here in Charlotte got very quiet after the Jags took the lead. It was pretty festive after Hardy's go-ahead TD catch. I hope these guys keep it going and if anyone tries to call a halfback option next week.. well, I won't be happy.
  13. There's a lipstick joke in here somewhere.
  14. HB all! You share your birthday with Maria Bartiromo. Maybe someday there will be about you guys.
  15. Very impressive Jack. I might have to make the pic of the wings & 'weck my wallpaper. Good stuff!
  16. I think we can all agree that if you want some good Mexican food, you should go where the Mexicans are. Now, substitute any other ethnicity for 'Mexican' and you're good to go. Mexico is, (IMHO) a far and away the leader in the culinary arts amongst 3rd world countries. Seriously. I'd give Brazil a distant 2nd (though they're quickly moving into the industrial sphere). Jamaica and India hava some good food, too. Of course, in Charlotte the only thing I've been able to find that's decent is some typical strip-mall Chinese.
  17. I'd have to go with Boselli, too. Will Wolford handled folks pretty well too. Anyone read "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis? I watched the Ole Miss - Wake Forest game this weekend. The subject the the book is Ole Miss left tackle Michael Oher. His play can be described similarly to Walter Jones'. Very strong and athletic. He makes it look very easy. He'll go in the first round next year.
  18. Lester Bangs: My advice to you. I know you think those guys are your friends. You wanna be a true friend to them? Be honest, and unmerciful.
  19. All the work that Morgan Spurlock did, and still we have this?
  20. This should be no surprise. It said he attends Medaille. That hardly qualifies him as a 'college student'.
  21. I'm so happy for you. I held my tongue when I read this (SERIOUSLY, YOU WERE NOT GOING TO HEDGE A GURANTEED $5000 WIN???), but I'm really happy for you. That's an EPIC score. Epic. In the words of Lou Brown (manager of the Cleveland Indians in 'Major League'): "Nice catch, Hayes. Don't ever flockin' do it again.'
  22. That's impressive. I hope it goes well with wings, beef on weck and a Bills victory!
  23. "There Will Be Blood."
  24. The tailgate is 0-2 since my last appearance. Let's get that turned around. We're tailgating in Charlotte. I'm told we have to get in line before this place opens so we can have a shot at a table. My friend just texted me that he has a cooler, but no beer. My reply: "I guess you really don't have a cooler then, do you?" Fortunately I have a 12er here. My God, I'm excited! What kind of snooty beer is Bluefire drinking?
