  1. Thanks. I like them both, but it seems a little premature for Reich to get a HC position after only one year as an OC. Re Whaley, Bills are lucky they got him. He's got a great group under him, and he/they is really building a solid roster.
  2. Educated guess or some insight from your time spent with him? I was wondering what kind of relationship he had with Schwartz?
  3. Btw, the trend in news has been pretty consistent--something big every 2 days. Monday--Orton Retires. Wednesday--Marrone gone. Friday--Whaley leads search. Sunday...? Or is it a day of rest, and the next event goes back to Monday?
  4. This is good to hear. I was worried that the Pegula's would do something stupid to reduce Whaley's influence. I think Whaley has created one of the strongest pro/college scouting departments the Bills have seen since the days of John Butler, and that is the long-term foundation for this football team.
  5. that's the way I look at it too, taking the worst team in the league to the playoffs in his 3rd year. He's certainly intense and emotional, but he's clearly a sharp guy that players like to play for. Contrary to "losing the team" in Detroit, most of the players defended him and wanted him back.
  6. might be a little tough trying to give that many QBs enough playing time to adequately assess them...
  7. Here's an old one about his use of stats, and a good read. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/23/sports/football/23titans.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0
  8. Here's an interesting piece written in his second year in Detroit. You could substitute "Jim Kelly" in his quip... http://archive.detroitnews.com/article/20101120/OPINION03/11200393
  9. Under the Schwartz as coach thread I linked to an article about his oc in Detroit, the current oc for Dallas. He made a good choice there.
  10. wont take long before it's eclipsed...
  11. yes, we just experienced a hyper version of the lafontaine affair. Now let the gm take car of business...
  12. I wanted to see who Schwartz had as his oc in Detroit--seems like he picked a good one. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-cowboys/headlines/20141229-lions-not-shocked-by-ex-coordinator-scott-linehan-s-success-with-cowboys.ece
  13. i'm on board with this too. Marrone blamed poor Oline play on execution, but it would seem good coaching could get the line executing at some point during the season. Oline play next year will be the telling point about Marrone IMHO.
  14. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/marrone-quits-head-coach-buffalo-bills-233621701--nfl.html a freudian slip?
  15. Marrone is obviously a genius. He purposely passed on Geno Smith so the Jets could get him, knowing he'd be there in 3 years...
  16. On the bright side, he took a team decimated by the bad personnel moves of Matt Millen and got them to the playoffs in 3 years. From what I read, part of the regression in his last year was the regression of Stafford down the stretch of 2013. I'd love to see Schwartz as HC and Reich as OC.
  17. I was reading through the thread to see who would use this first. Congratulations...obviously. this.
  18. I hope Schwartz gets it.
  19. I've seen $17m quoted, and Whaley said the presser around $16m he thought. Orton's just freed up another $5m which puts it at your number.
  20. I hope you're right, because I love the 'tude he brings to the team. It's pretty safe to say rivers is gone, so maybe there's space for him?
  21. thanks, makes sense. However, I think we'd still see the same results if updated. Too many college players come from warm climes. I had the same experience that Whaley describes, came from the west coast, never thought I'd stay, but here I am 25 years later.
  22. Hopefully the perception is changing, but there are a lot players who prefer the lime light of big cities.
  23. http://wallstcheatsheet.com/sports/5-nfl-teams-players-least-want-to-join-even-for-twice-the-pay.html/?a=viewall
  24. and he did it with crappy QBs.
