Still a fundamentally close race. The generic R/D split is even. So "candidate quality" drives any difference that shows up in the presidential race. The perception was that despite Trump's weakness, Biden was worse. Once Harris is out there a while, people will make up their minds. Is she a generic Democrat? That's kind of what she needs to be seen as, allowing Trump's weaker-than-generic Republican tendencies to come to the forefront.

So I see that "Carrie Severino" of the Judicial Crisis Network has a little problem with constitutional law. "Biden wants to do an end-run around the constitution" by reforming the Supreme Court. Q. Where in the constitution does it say there will be 9 justices on the Supreme Court? A. Nowhere. We've had as few as 6, as many as today's 9. So if the talk is of expanding the Supreme Court, well, that's a political matter that has nothing to do with the constitution.

Because the Supreme Court issued a decision overturning the Ninth Circuit. So this is now allowed under threat of criminal prosecution for those disobeying the order. Newsom was on the side arguing against the Ninth Circuit decision.

And Kamala's real mission - "to examine the root causes of immigration from the Northern Triangle" - was so stupid to begin with. I know people who've worked in this field for a long time. There's always push factors and pull factors in immigration. Push: the Northern Triangle countries suck. They're poor (all), beset by gang crime (mostly El Salvador back then, and Honduras then and now), racist (Guatemalan indigenous people), and corrupt (all). Pull: they all had close or extended family or people from their neighborhoods/villages who came to the US and were allowed in and allowed to stay pending completion of their asylum hearings, which could be years away. And those friends/relatives all said life was better here and worth the long (and sometimes dangerous) trip. There's my White Paper Executive Summary.
