  1. As I'm looking at summaries of the prosecution's closing, it is pretty clear now.
  2. In other words, in a shocking development a washed-up actor who supported Trump in 2020 will support Trump again. https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/celebrities-who-support-donald-trump/10/ (check the date) Keep breaking that news, Piers Morgan!
  3. No. As I'm sure you know, that's a different thing. What I'm talking about is this: sometimes people have mixed motivations. I take my girlfriend out to lunch. I charge it on my own Visa card that my wife doesn't have access to. I get 4X points on restaurant purchases. That's one motive for using that particular Visa. Oh, and my wife can't see the charge. That's another motive.
  4. What if the jury instruction, based on New York law, is "was concerned?" In other words, 55% concerned about Melania, 45% about the election. It seems that would do, wouldn't it?
  5. Is that that war where we took down the Unified Reich? Maybe they're just preparing for the great restoration.
  6. Believes everything he reads on Twitter. Doesn't even take a minute to try to fact check it before reposting tweets that came from a parody account. That's why DR's D.U.M.B.S. keep exploding on his face.
  7. Tommy Eyerolls is gonna stick. But don’t distract them with things like “news,” as in “something that is happening or has recently happened.” He and his ilk are too busy trying to get in their Uncle Rico time machines to change history by firing the Frankfurt School professors c. 1939. Not Hitler. No. Adorno and Horkheimer. And he goes to Twitter. And then immediately stops. Which is how he knew about that Stallone-Denzel alt Union before everybody else did.
  8. Did I miss the part where someone "demanded a conviction?" I saw some silliness about January 6 and Robert DeNiro doing ... Robert DeNiro. By the way, I love how the takes here follow your Twittermasters. Earlier today: what a stupid pointless farce, putting on some kind of lackluster Biden campaign event outside the courthouse. Now: Oooh, they are trying to influence the jury! It is so effective that it calls into question whether Trump is getting a fair trial!!
  9. If Biden is going to win, the truth is it will be because people are concentrating more on what the alternative - Trump - will do.
  10. To their credit (and in opposition to their opponent), they appear to be uninterested in political gimmicks.
  11. You should do an overlay of that map with one of 2020 percentage of the vote for Trump. Or, for that matter, 2016 vote for Trump. Someone posted a clip of Reagan from the 1980s. His solution? "Vote with your feet." Get the hell out of the dying regions. Sounds harsh. It is. But it's true. I thought Republicans were the ones who are able to deal with harsh truths?
  12. For once (or is it already twice this morning alone!) I have to agree. Stupid, pointless exercise. They are fortunate only that everyone will ignore it other than the Alt/right media ...
  13. When has Trump ever had "the majority of Americans" supporting him? Answer: Never. https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/presidential-approval-ratings-donald-trump.aspx
  14. The second part is true. Yes, most Americans did get tax cuts. But the first part ... in what way does the map support the contention? Not in any way that I can see.
  15. Ahh, for the days of a sunny, optimistic non-grudge holding, America loving Republican candidate for President ...
  16. That's the line my old uncles used to use. Glad to see it's still in use!
  17. Liberal conspiracy! Gannett newspapers (yeah, mainstream media, but of a very weak type) have their own editors, and they can run or kill the Gannett national editorials. And so some didn't run this one. Which no doubt will give it more publicity than if they had run it and the 10 read-every-page subscribers to the Shreveport Shovel had read it.
  18. What's "austere?" It's a goddam cookout. it's what I had as a kid in Buffalo. It's tradition. It's hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, checkered tablecloth, yellow jackets circling the Cokes, cheap beer for the grownups, real Heinz ketchup (hint: by the Costco 4-pack every spring: 2 big ketchups, one big mustard, one big relish; I also buy the Ted's hot sauce but that's just me) you know, the American way. The Buffalo-American way.
  19. Right. Your comment was even-handed and on point and a good summary for people who are doing some other things today (which includes me very shortly). It could get a snarky "tl;dr" but an eye roll just shows an unserious person. As does the idiotic "it" thing.
  20. That was just stupid and ineffective. I see they brought out the Capitol Police guys to talk about something unrelated, and DeNiro to do ... what?
  21. Flipped around the usual sources. Bottom line: nobody knows what the hell the jury will do. Anyone claiming they do is a fool or a liar. My take: it's why we have jury trials. Reasonable minds could differ. Tuning out till I hear the jury instructions because that's the thing of which appeals are made (if convicted) and I'm a nerd.
  22. I was stupid. I waited till the last minute to get my supplies. 6 people. Wound up going to Whole Foods ($$$). Hot dogs, you know, all natural and all that. $7.99. Rolls 3.99. (skipped the more expensive pretzel kind, best reserved for brats). Found an big old can of baked beans in the cupboard. If I bought it now probably $2.99. 6 ears of corn. Good USA (south Texas) sweet corn on special for .50 each. So $3.00. Already had the condiments. Mini watermelon $4.99 (bad deal, but no fridge room). $23.00 or so. 6 people, so less than 4 bucks apiece, not counting booze (already had enough on hand) Maybe you guys eat filet mignon for holiday cookouts?
  23. Massive win! One write-in vote. Chorus of boos. Must be getting tired of winning. Shocker: old man who champions telling young women what they can’t do with their bodies is unpopular with people who champion the government leaving people be.
  24. And a Happy Good Friday to you too!
