Jim Miller breaks down Senior Bowl QB's
TDRupp replied to Cson76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the excellent info. I will be focusing on Colin C and Dalton this weekend and bet it our drafted QB this year will be one of them, Gabbert or Newton. -
Agreed. Remember when Buddy took the GM job. Said it was s QB driven league. He thinks they can win with Fitz, but did not say he is a franchise QB. I think they pick a QB in rounds 1-3 and would not be the least bit surprised if is in the 1st.

So much for the NEED to have a "franchise QB"...
TDRupp replied to McD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lets see how many are still franchise QB's and 1st round picks: 1. Rothlisberger pick 10 I think 2. Sanchez pick #5 3. Cutler pick #12 or #13 4. Rodgers pick 20 or 22 (and could have been #1 if SF choose to go that route...was said to be very close between him and A. Smith) Hmm. so whether they are consider "franchise" QB's or not they all were 1st round picks and 3 of 4 in the top 15. We need one of these QB's. Period. We also need elite or very good players on D. Let Buddy do his job and if he messes it up, someone gets a try in 2013 or 2014. Good work. I will not split hairs on a few but the point is do your homework and get a QB in Rnd 1. This year, next year, some year or trade for one. -
Ouch. Let's here it then.

First on Newton: I totally agree that he has talent but bottom line is an NFL QB Project. Could (big could) turn out to be a better version of Vince Young (stronger work ethic and leadership) but will take time and has a fairly sigificant bust factor. Secondly, on Fairley: He is a certain top 5 pick and will be tough for everybody in the top 5 to pass on regardless of scheme. He could easily go #1 to Carolina. On Commercials: I think Auburn is tied to Under Armour or Reebok (forget which from last night). I think a better Nike commerial would be.... queue scene of Le Bron doing some magic in a Heat uni (gag me). splinced with alternating scenes with LeGrand kid from Rutgers doing rehab to overcome paralysis and scenes of LeMichael James doing his and football thing and more of LeBron. at the end something like Just Do It... Le Nike Of course it would have to wait until LeMike and LeGrand have amatuer status removed or send funds to paralysis reserach/recovery orgs. Paul Allen (Nike) already funds Oregon foot ball a lot, I believe. Would help LeBron restore his image if he gave up his cut.

Saints would have offered a 3rd round pick
TDRupp replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if it IS TRUE, then the Saints front office and Mickey Loomis really are the ones that look bad. They are the team that apparently wanted and needed M Lynhc for a 3rd but they decided not to make that offer a few days before the trade deadline no less. Did it cost them an opportunity to go on in the playoffs and defend the NFL Championship? If so, then the national media (Jay Glaser) should dress the Saints down since they did not make a firm offer. -
I met Buddy Nix one day back in 1997. I went to a Durham,NC sports bar (currently a seafood place) to watch the Bills '07 opener versus Minn (Todd Collins' first career start after the Jimbo era...ugh!). They had the Triangle Area Bills Fan club there and had a whole wing of Bills fans watch on a big screen. I got there at 1:00 and had to sit on the outside of the wing but had an empty table. An older gentlemen asked if he could sit at the table with me and I said sure. I could not tell who he was rooting so at half time I asked him and he said he was rooting for the Bills in his think southern accent. After a couple of minutes of trying to figure out why he might like them I asked him if he knew a player on the team and he looked around and said "No. I am with the Bills, but keep it quiet around all these folks" and handed me his card. I asked him about his territory as a Scout (Southeast and Texas) and we talked about a few players from the '97 draft. Specifically, I told him that I thought Tiki Barber looked awesome in the 2 college games I saw him in and thought he could even hold up as a full time back and asked what he thought of him. He said he liked him a lot too, but they like Antowain Smith's size and speed better. Think he learned from me and took Spiller over Ryan Matthews? Yah, sure...LOL. He has very low key and I am pretty laid back so after halftime we did not talk much and he left right after the last play. Pretty cool guy. The thing I liked and still can sense from his tv and interviews online is that he does not have an ego, a low key guy that loves football. Of course, I had to stay around a few minutes later to show a few guys his business card.

Picking a QB at 3 - He better be starting
TDRupp replied to MikeSpeed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't agree more. There is only 1 college QB ready to start day 1 as a rookie and he is staying at Stanford this year. I am not saying one will not start and might develop into a good QB, but look at River in SD. Drafted by Buddy Nix. He was the 3rd string QB in SD his rookie year. Brees started 15 games and Flutie started 1. In '05 Brees started all 16 with Rivers as the number 2 QB. When Rivers took over in '06 in his third year he was ready to roll and has done very well. YEs, different team and different circumstances than our '11 Bills will be but very effective approach.. Aaron Rodgers watch farve for 3 years as the #2 and barely saw the field. He looked like a shell of a man holding the clipboard watching Farve and what is he now? A top 5 QB and we'll see how he does moving forward. Good approach. I say draft a QB in round 1 and even at 3 and let him learn from Fitz and if we can get a decent vet behind Fitz (longshot) let him learn as #3. I could care less that he is not helping the '11 team on the field. It will pay off, in my humble opinion. pEace. Go Bills! -
Take a QB! Tons of Defensive talent 2-4
TDRupp replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do get the sense that Buddy may feel QB is the way to go and if I had a guess I think it may be Gabbert at 3. He has produce big time for 2 years, has prototypical NFL size, arm, very good mobility and needs to develop a year behind a veteran like Fitz. I just get the feeling they will draft a QB and like Buddy has said, if they like a guy they take him. Not sure if they do it at 3 but if another QB besides Luck is ranked in top 10 I doubt he trades down b/c too many others need QB's and could snatch that QB up. -
Ryan Mallett Sucks - Exhibit A: Aaron Murray
TDRupp replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He got that one right and even thought Orakpo would be good, but said that Robert Ayers, DE, TEnn would be the best defensive player from the '09 draft. He missed that one unless the kid impeoves, a lot. 14 tackle 0 sacks last year and 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks this. A virtual stud compared to Maybin, but not nearly the best D player. -
Sorry, but this team is NOT picking 1st in the 2011 Draft! It will be Carolina or somebody else, not Buffalo.

Attention KMart Shoppers: Jamarcus on Sale
TDRupp replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Fitz plays his normal self (decently) not well enough to win against the Jags or Ravens I would not doubt Chan giving Brohm a chance in 2-3 weeks and by game 15 or 16 depending on how he looks or plays, we MIGHT even see some of Levi Brown. This is all fine by me. we do not want to wait to see these guys next year. We need to hit bottom this year. Start growing with a new QB next year. Slow and painful as Buddy said, but picking number 8-12 just is not cutting it (that said we could have drafted Josh Freeman at 11 last year). We need a top 5 pick to get us in the running for a franchise QB in 2011 or top pash rusher and a miracle QB in the second round (IE. a Farve or a Brees would work). Peace. Go Bills! -
If Andra plays effectively and Poz stays on the field, I am predicting a Buffalo win thanks to an effective Offense similar to the way they played NE a few weeks ago. 24-21, Bills.

Good info...thanks for sharing. I know I am probably in a minority hear, but I believe that almost everyone of these guys (NFL players) earn every penny they get paid. What I mean by that is, the abuse they put their bodies. While some of put our bodies through varying degrees of it via HS and college sports (or just backy yard, town league, and college intramurals like me), these guys in the NFL take a huge physical toll that affects almost everyone of them in some way for the rest od their lives.

And what position would Logan Mankins play? If OG, then who sits Levitre or Wood or are you proposing that Wood shift to the pivot (Center) and put Mankins at RG? Well, that sure would be the opposite of the Parcells quote about how to build an OLine. "Give me 2 good OT's and I'll fill in the rest". Peace! Go Bills!

The PR guys chimes in when Allen Wilson asks the quetion about a bill that has stated it is his make or break year and Gailey says "he has stepped up more then he has stepped back". He says it with emphasis. The problem is when the PR guy chimes it is over the played's name. I am guessing it is Donte Whitner. The other 5th year players are McCargo (is in make or break year but I do not think he has shined at all), G. Wilson (possibly but doubt it), Ellison(hurt for awhile so doubt it), Fitz (doubt it), and K Williams (not in make or break year, extended contract) Anybody KNOW who he asked about?
-
judman, if Poz is Mr. Glass, he is Mr. Glass 1/2 Full. You are Mr. Glass, almost empty. It is all good! Poz is a good, productive LB that should thrive in our 3-4 defense assuming Troop and K Williams are healthy to keep him "clean" for the tackles. No doubt having him stay healthy for 14-16 gms this year would be a very good thing.

Yep. Wprks out for everybody, right? The Bills get a good starting LT and the Bolts get a 3rd RB and who do they start at LT in this season as they push for a Super Bowl bid? Oops. Maybe night. Go Bills!

Man, 21 is my favorite number and I always thoght Chris Watson was the best punt catcher in the history of the NFL. I mean he specialized at doin just that and playing a little safety. Fair catches, catching the ball to be mauled b/c he did not run, catching punts in warm ups. Loved him.

Perhaps you know his mother, Lady or his brother that has been lurking along the Bills sideline since the late 90's, Bad? Go Bills

I have been thinking about our OT situation and trying to understand why Buddy and Chan would want to trade for a very good LOT in Gaither that will need to be extended for very big money when all reports are that while he is very talented, he does not work extremely hard. This before he gets big money. The guys has made 5th rounder money for 4 years. Will he bust his butt to win after he gets a huge deal? Maybe. Make sense that you would trade away a highly conveted 2nd rounder for Gaither given you like to build through the draft? Maybe, but probaby not. Now, would you be willing to call and talk to Ozzie Newson and maybe float a low ball offer to start? Maybe, and it would make sense if.... you really would rather trade for Jammal Brown and give him an extension. All reports I have read (not many so please weigh in if you have heard otherwise) is that he is a good run and pass blocker. Have not heard if he was a hard worker and a tough player (Chan likes and wants those). Anyway, assuming the Bills might want them, wouldn't it make sense to trade him for a guy they love and have been pumping up multiple times, but does not really fit their defensive scheme? Yes, it does make sense. Kyle Williams. New Orleans was close to trading for B Cofield of th NYG's on draft and have been rumored to be interested in Haynesowrth. They want a DT. Now, while Williams is not as big as those guys, we know Gregg Williams loves productive migh motor defensive linemen. He fits for NO. So, maybe some like... Jamal Brown for Kyle Williams and a 4th. As soon as I just sold myself on this idea I looked up Jammal Brown's age is he was 29 back in March. If he stays healthy for 4-5 more years and plays at a pro blowl level, then it make sense. It could be that he is started breaking down last year and will an injury issue for a bunch more in his career. I think I like this option better then Gaither. Just my humble opinion. Peace. Go Bills!

Maybinot! That is perfect. You you, I hope I am wrong but after hearing about Poz and Fewell being disapponted with Maybinnot's lack of playbook understanding and his efrot to know it better and then Cerrato's claim about how abnoxious he was at a pre-draft event I really believe the guy will not be very proudctive for the Bills...ever. Like I said, I hope I am wrong. Go Bills!

CJ Spiller cuts right and then way left and explodes for a 50 Yd TD...right before they play the Bills Make me Want to Shout song, they play..."because he's a Thrilla!!" by Michael Jackson... just a couple of lyrics and start up Shout. That would be cool. But, for me its CJ Spiller.

propose a nickname for Wang,Wood, Levitre et al
TDRupp replied to birdog1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you get the Hangartner syndrome, all you need to do is pop some Levitre and watch your Wang turn into solid Wood...You will be back in the game and ringing the Bell of your little woman in no time. Sorry, but I just had to bench Cornell Green. Peace and Go Bills!
