He lost last year. He wasn't clutch in last year's championship game.

Kyle Posey: Debunking the Tyrod Taylor Myth

So much easier to pass the ball when you are behind the best pass protecting offensive line in the NFL. Most quarterbacks in the NFL would look very good playing behind that Dallas offensive line. Throw Dak on an average team with an average offensive line and he doesn't look anywhere near as good. -

Whaley isn't big on offensive linemen. He won't spend a 1st on that. If we are lucky he will spend as high as a second, but I doubt he even does that. The o-line guys will be later round picks if at all I bet. -

Truly brilliant post! Your point is the one thing that gets overlooked in all these conversations. There isn't one person here who knows what the coaches are telling the QB to do or not to do. We don't get to sit in on practice. None of us know. It is all guessing. Absolutely correct. Anyone looking at this season objectively can see that this offense was designed to be good at running and to run more often than other teams while neglecting the passing aspect to a large degree. Every single one of Roman's offenses have all been that way even when they went to a Superbowl. -
Yes, Rex had multiple reasons for wanting to not coach the last game: * Kid playing * Forced to sit Tyrod when he promised Tyrod otherwise * High likelihood of losing the game gives Rex one more loss on his coaching record * High likelihood of losing the game ends Rex's coaching career with a huge embarrassment against his former team (adds fuel to the fire as a laughing stock in NY) * Other opportunity costs of having to coach another week for a meaningless game in which he would be handicapped There are probably some other reasons too. There were simply too many reasons not to coach that game and not enough reasons to want to coach that game. It makes total sense that Rex wanted out of that last game. And it makes total sense that Pegula let him leave a game early.

Kyle Posey: Debunking the Tyrod Taylor Myth

Well isn't it odd how Sammy Watkins comes out publicly and says that the offense needs to put more emphasis on the passing game and a week later the offense is passing for over 300 yards? - Even though they played a team with one of the weakest run defenses in the NFL? - Maybe a week of emphasizing the passing game in practice translates into a better passing attack in the next game? -
So, Whaley tells Pegula that he should hire the guy. Then immediately after that (within a few weeks), a power struggle erupts and Whaley is let go? I don't see that happening this year. Maybe next year or some year thereafter. McDermott probably has mad love for Whaley at this point and is going to be more willing to work with him than a lot of coach/GM relationships. They will agree on most things this year. If Whaley didn't think they would, he would have never recommended the hiring. A power struggle is a possibility way down the road (at least a year from now). It does not make sense any time in the immediate future. If Pegula had intended to part ways with Whaley all along, he would have just parted ways with Whaley and moved on. He wouldn't do it as you are suggesting. He would have just hired his new guy and had that new guy help him find a coach. Isn't it far more likely that Whaley is a team player and gives the coach a lot of say in personnel (as it appears he has done so far since being GM)? Isn't it far more likely that Pegula is assembling a team of people who can work together and win as a team rather than separating responsibility so that he has someone definitive to BLAME when things go wrong? You implied that you are an executive. When a business owner/entrepreneur is building a team to run his company - does he worry about who he is going to blame if things go wrong? - Answer - no he doesn't - unless he is a self-absorbed douche with no self esteem - or maybe some second generation rich kid who inherited daddy's money/business. If he is a normal, intelligent, highly successful entrepreneurial business owner (as Pegula has proven to be) he assembles a team of top notch people he trusts to work together for the common good of the enterprise.

I could be. I have been plenty of times. I just don't see it in him. If he played on a lesser team with a weaker receiving crew, I would be more persuaded that he can elevate a team on an NFL level. Not his fault he has good receivers. I just don't think HE is a big enough difference maker. And I don't think his play will transfer well to the NFL. I think he will make a great backup for some team. Probably start for a couple years before being demoted to backup as most semi-decent qb's end up.

Coach search has come (again) who is the best fit?
PolishDave replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ooooooooh... could be.. Seems like a bad fit there though. Ground and pound with what? -
So true. I can't imagine myself and most of my closest friends not completely screwing up our lives if we grew up in this era. Good god. So glad that life was more forgiving in some regards back then.

Posted Today, 02:05 PM John from Hemet, on 10 Jan 2017 - 2:01 PM, said: You said that you want to trade up for Watson but only after the Bills scouts disect him. That implies that you want to trade up for him only if the Bills scouts agree with you that he is worth trading up for - and that if they don't agree he is worth trading up for then you don't want to trade up for him. Thereby you are basically delegating the decision to them no matter what.
-
So what you are saying then, is that you are just going to trust the Bills made the right decision no matter what that decision is? That is how I would interpret what your stance is.
-
Good post! Better ways to spend a number 10 overall pick than on a huge gamble with Watson - who won't even be ready to start next year. If Bills really want to take a QB with their first pick, they should probably trade down to do so like they did the year they drafted EJ. I would rather take the best QB available in the second round or later who is not named Kizer. Hopefully they can get Mahomes later in the draft.
-
Watson is not better and it's not even close. Go back and watch some Tyrod college ball. If you think Tyrod is not good enough in the NFL, then this Watson kid is definitely not good enough. Yes. College football is awesome. So much more exciting than the NFL. Loved the option pass late in the game and I think there was a hook and ladder in there too. Almost never see those in the NFL. Wicked!
-
He struggled a lot in that game. He will struggle immensely in the NFL. He will make a good backup QB. I think people are nuts who want this guy as a starting quarterback in the NFL. This guy is like a less talented version of Tyrod. And yet people here are going goo goo over him. Even people who don't want Tyrod to stay. Ridiculous. Be careful what you wish for.
-
Agree. And defensive coordinators love to blitz rookies.
-
Dog should have treed that sucker so you could shoot him. What kind of dog do you have?
-
If Whaley trades up to number 2 he should be fired. Well I guess it depends on what he gives up for it. But, it will probably cost too much. Trade down instead of up. If Mahomes is there, later in round one or two, then take him. Who in their right mind would grade Kizer as a round one pick? Kizer is not NFL caliber. Skip on him. And I am a ND fan.
