So, you seem to be saying that you hold winning against Sherman because he had a good team, but will give Jauron a free pass because his team stunk? Can't go along with that one. Give me the proven winner anyday.

No interview scheduled with Haslett? There is hope after all.

Maurice Carthon HC/Pepper Johnson DC
Brandon replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. I still have absolutely no idea why that guy is a candidate for a HC job. He's got one year as a coordinator on a team with a statistically mediocre defense on his resume. They can keep him, too. -
I guess they figure they can admit it since it ultimately didn't cost the Steelers a win.

Maurice Carthon HC/Pepper Johnson DC
Brandon replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What has Carthon done to warrant any attention for a HC job? He's currently with his third team in four years. His teams have finished 26th, 21st, 25th, and 32nd in scoring the last four years, 30th, 15th, 17th, and 26th in total offense. I see no reason for any interest in him as Bills HC. Sean Payton hasn't done anything, either, but I suspect the Bills interest in Payton is mainly due to the fact that he's considered a good QB coach. He's not very high on my list of coaching candidates, either. -
Ron Edwards could probably play a DE position in a 3-4, IF he could stay on the field. I believe he was projected as a possible 3-4 end coming out of the 2001 draft. I also agree that Ryan Denney might be able to handle it as well.
-
I agree with you completely. We currently don't have the players to utilize a 3-4 defense. That said, coming off a 5-11 season and needing to almost completely rebuild both lines, I see no reason not to give a switch to a 3-4 some serious consideration. Its not like we have the personnel to run a 4-3 effectively, either.

Informal contact with team officials, huh? I'm guessing that this means he called Ralph Wilson, begged him to hire him, and Ralph hung up on him? -
Need corroboration - Saunders Bills' Top Choice?
Brandon replied to HeyNowBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A little information about Al Saunders from the Chiefs website. http://www.kcchiefs.com/coach/al_saunders/ He's been a longtime NFL assistant, a former NFL HC, won a Super Bowl in St.Louis as WR coach, and has run a very successful offense in KC for five years now. Seems like he'd be a great choice. Of course, I'm sure the Bills have no interest in hiring him. As someone else said, it makes too much sense. -
I didn't think you were. I was just clarifying my position on it. I've seen that move suggested many times and I don't like it at all. I don't think there is any potential for it to make the team better on the field and all it does is weaken the CB position. For the record, I feel we should franchise Clements, trade him for a pick, and use it to upgrade another position. That makes the Bills weaker at CB, but stronger at another position with the hope being that it makes them a better overall team. I'm also working on an offseason scenario that I'll be posting in a few days that details this a bit more.
-
That's the only benefit. The problem I have with it is that we'd also be trading a proven quality CB for a completely unproven rookie. Nate Clements certainly had a down year, no question, but there's little reason to believe he won't bounce back. He's young and has no injury history. I think they'd be better off using the franchise tag on Clements to keep him and give him a chance to recover from a poor 2005 than trading him and using the pick on a CB. If you want to trade him for a 1st round pick and take another position, I think that's fine. I'd do that. But to trade him for a rookie CB just to save cap room is an Arizona Cardinals type of move.
-
One question... How do the Bills benefit from trading Nate Clements for a draft pick and then using that same draft pick on a CB?
-
Schottenheimer is 186-124 in 20 years as a head coach in the NFL. The guy has posted only TWO losing seasons in 20 years, 2003 and 1998, and 10 years of 10+ wins. I could live with that.

Who WILL be the Bills next head coach

BTW, I also forgot to mention one thing about Sherman. Its also a well known fact that he wanted the Packers to draft JP Losman had the Bills not taken him instead. -

McNally also didn't have five starting caliber OL to put on the field last year, either. Before he is thrown under the bus, I'd like to see what he can do when he has something resembling talent to work with. The fact that he has turned Jason Peters, a college TE, into a reasonably good starting RT is a good example of how good of a coach he can be if given players with some ability. -

I think it'll either be Mike Sherman or Jim Fassel. The one thing I did not know about Mike Sherman is that he has an extensive background as an OL coach. -
Jason Peters does not have 4.5 speed. He might get close to 4.80, but that's about it. He's only fast for someone of his size. After watching him play at Arkansas and now for the Bills, I feel pretty confident that the Bills are playing him in the correct position. At TE, I don't think he'd be anything more than 2nd TE brought in primarily for his blocking abilities. He'll never be anything but an average recieving threat at the position. By contrast, he's proving that he can be a quality starting OT and he's got the ability to be as good as he wants to be at the position.
-
That's what I thought had happened. No other reason to eject Taylor from the game for that situation.
-
Sean Taylor is now leaving the field (ejected from game?).
-
I have a feeling that there was more to that than we know.
-
The total value of the contract the player signed for, his amount of playing time (injury does not count, I think), and any postseason honors such as the Pro Bowl are all factors.

Aaron Schobel finished 5th in NFL in sacks
Brandon replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, he did not have a sack in 8 games this season and had 4 games with 2 sacks, so it seems that his sacks largely did in fact come in bunches once again. In games 2-6, he had none. He had two in the opener against the Texans. He had two against Nick Kaczur of the Pats, a rookie starting only his 1st or 2nd game (he got another one later in the year vs Kazcur). I don't think Willie Roaf played the next week for the Chiefs, another game where he got two sacks. To his credit, he did have two more against Levi Jones, and Jones has become an excellent LT. -

You are correct, of course, but that makes for an awfully boring message board. -

You should not take a RB in R1 then, either. Only two first round RBs have won a Super Bowl with the team that drafted them in the same time frame. It really shocked me that the same holds true for WRs. Only two of them have done it. Been a LOT of WRs and RBs taken in R1 since 1990, too. TEs? Two, but this one is kinda cheap considering that both are on the same Patriots team. OTs are a little better, I think there are 5 of them, but one was a total flop (Michels for GB). 1st round OGs have put up a goose egg. Cs? 1, Damien Woody. Granted, that's just a quick skimming over them, but it doesn't look like any other position offensively is much, if any better. There were five OTs, but probably 3 times as many OTs were picked in R1 as QBs. I have not looked at defense yet. -
Good matchup in this one today. Auburn DE Stanley McClover going up against Wisconsin LT Joe Thomas. Both are juniors, so its possible neither one will be available, but both are R1/2 prospects. McClover is a guy I think is very underrated at this point. Also, its a chance to see Auburn LT Marcus McNeil play.
