  1. I think you take into account much of what has been discussed here. With Marv, take it to account what he started with and was progress being made. With Crossman, management acknowledged he didn't have much to work with, they gave him quality players in year 2 and they were great. I guess the point of my original post was that it's pretty ridiculous to criticize a hire they day they sign, before they even get to meet their players. It takes time, sometimes a couple years in progress.
  2. Throughout the past week , I've found it very interesting how most posters react to a hire. It's basically, how the player/players he most recently coached performed, maybe league ranking, but really not much of a thought out critique encompassing factors such as player quality, team quality, full body of work, the situation they will be coming into.... Roman for example was a hot commodity 2 years ago for a head coach after Kaepernicks great Super Bowl season, now since he took a step back this year, some think Roman is a bad choice. I seems like those who want to criticize the hire will find one negative and attribute it to the new hire and condemn it. Would like to know your thoughts on a fair way to assess a new hire.
  3. 2014 seemed to be quite a mess for the whole organization, but in 2013 they put up some great offensive numbers. Forte, Marshall and Jeffery all had tremendous seasons. And like others have said, seems like quite an upgrade from this past season for us.
  4. Again, not the posts I referenced, but if it makes you happy , I know why you don't like the hire. Still, i'll trust Ryan over you, no offense.
  5. Actually, no post that I referenced made it clear that the problem was the violation of trust. One said his OL was bad and that he knew nothing about the guy, the other just didn't like the hire, no reason given.
  6. You don't know anything about him, so maybe getting immediately upset about the hire is probably a bit premature and greatly overreacting. I'm guessing the person that hired him might know something about him. Let him at least show up for work before you criticize. Please tell me why this isn't a good hire, why Roman is making a mistake in evaluating this coach.
  7. Can Marrone put together a staff after screwing over so many just recently?
  8. Did I miss something - Did the skins fire Gruden?
  9. Not me. I wasn't thrilled with our defense in 2013. Thought Pettine was overrated, Kiko overrated. Was very happy when we signed Schwartz.
  10. But what if Spikes doesn't come back. Also, where does Kiko play in a 3-4 - not the middle , he isn't strong enough. Can he play on the line as an OLB? I'm not sure. I'll admit I don't know enough about how this will work out, but I'm concerned about switching defenses. Not sure we have the right people for a 3-4.
  11. they didn't look that good the year before. Schwartz did an excellent job.
  12. Likely because teams would run for 200-300 yards a game and making it quite easy to pass when they wanted to.
  13. Pettines defense in Buffalo wasn't very good except for nice sack stats. Horrible against the run.
  14. Does this mean Roman used to be a good coach , but isn't anymore.
  15. Ok, i get your perspective. I just don't see someone locking themselves in with a 'faux' promotion that limits their ability to move up in the coaching ranks.
  16. Makes no sense, so Pepper Johnson would change his title to assistant HC, hurting his chances of getting his wish to be a DC.
  17. not necessarily, is it just a title or added responsibility? My guess is these guys want to coach with their system and their assistants. Just handing out a new title might not appease them.
  18. You have Ryan's defensive staff in NY and Schwartz's in Buffalo, not enough room for them all. What happens? Will Schwartz fire some of his and stay as DC?
  19. I'm not sure how typical it is or isn't. Off the top of my head I can think of a number of coaches with more success the 2nd time around. Belicheck, Levy, Carroll, Rivera, probably quite a few that flamed out after success. I think it all comes down to good timing, Marv was the right coach at the right time for the Bills, I would think with a strong offense, being a good coach, Ryan could be the right coach at the right time.
