1. Y My friend (a Leafs fan who lives in Kingston) gave me a call earlier today.  He has caught wind of all the griping and was happy to report that Leafs fans couldn't give a rip about the new jerseys (he happened to think they weren't bad) but rather he and his Leaf buddies are far more amused at the fact that the fans are so worked up over them.

I don't remember Flyers fans acting this ridiculous when their team ditched the vintage orange look and adopted the black/3rd jerseys full-time...a legitimate reason to gripe IMO.

Ummmm...of course a Leafs fan wouldn't be upset about the jersey. IT'S NOT THEIR TEAM THAT SWITCHED TO A SLUG LOGO! :o

  2. I don't have any. The Miami rivalry has been dead for awhile now. If Ralphie didn't stand in the way of realignment a few years back, there was a good chance we would have geographical rivals in Pittsburgh, Cleveland & Cincinnati for decades to come. :o

  3. 1. The simple fact i routinely mention but people seem to tend to ignore that he tied for the lead in both INTs and FRs on this turnover starved team last year.

    772372

A WHOPPING 4 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. He may have led the team, but it doesn't mean that those totals aren't putrid. I could be wrong, but let's see what totals his replacements have at years end.

  4. I disagree totally. Vincent is an amazing teammate. It has been reported a lot that he took Evans aside and worked him after practice all the time and was partly responsible for Lee becoming a good WR so quick. He has already taken the safeties aside and is teaching them how to break down film that coaches don't do. The term "locker room lawyer" is a knock on him and probably shouldn't be used, although not being in the locker room I don't know for sure. The fact that he is head of the players union actually is good reason why he is NOT a locker room lawyer or cancer.

    772117

...or Evans has become a very good WR because he is super talented and has a good WR coach in Tyke Tolbert.

Nobody knows for sure, but the Vincent helping Evans story made for good copy at the very least.

  5. A poster named "cweibel" made a mockup of the new uniform based on all the gossip (as well as the hockey pants that have already leaked).

    Ugly.

cweibel did a nice job putting all the rumors together so I wouldn't be too surprised if the uniform is close to this.  Unfortunately, it's ugly as sin.

    MY EYES!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!! :lol::P

  6. Locker room lawyer?  That's usually used in a pejorative sense (although I'm not sure if that's how you meant it).  I have no indication TV was anything but a positive influence in the locker room.

NFLPA bigshot:  Again, it seems like you mean that to be a negative (I'm getting that from "bigshot") perhaps I'm mistaken.  I think having the President of the NFLPA on the team is, at worst, a neutral thing.  More likely, it is a big positive.

Troy didn't end up bringing much to the Bills on the field (mostly due to injury) and he could never match what we lost in Winfield.  But, as others have mentioned, the guy is a class act and I wish him well.

    772095

pejorative? Sorry, but I'm too lazy to look up the meaning.

This is all I could come up with for Troy's legacy. He's a union big shot who broke JP's leg. I meant locker room lawyer in the sense that he was in there spreading the union gospel, but I could be mixing him up with someone else.

Either way...he has no legacy as a Bill other than this and will not be missed except by the training staff.

  7. The Miami and Malarkey theory

I see Willis as having a banner game (if given the chance) because he's playing in front of his peeps down there in Miami and he's playing against the coach that dogged him in the press and who also didn't believe in his 3rd down abilities. I forsee some big gainers if he has something close to 25 carries. Let's all just hope that nobody is called for blocking in the back this week.

    771863

Very simple answer...don't block anyone in the back and you won't get called for it.

  8. Troy is still not on. Paul Hamilton reported that Vincent asked Jauron if he could stay around and work with the young safetys.

    772032

I guess this is the end of Vincent's career as a Bill. So let's look at his accomplishments during his tenure...

    1. Broke JP's leg

    2. Locker room lawyer

    3. NFLPA bigshot

That's all I can come up with.

Troy we hardly knew ye. Thanks for the coaching offer, but that's what we have COACHES for.

  9. Good post, but I need to disagree with you on two things:

    1. I think JP's performance does merit a rating of 86. 86 is a decent rating, nothing great, nothing bad. That was his performance. He did some good things, but he didn't do anything disastrous (and the safety, as I've said before, was a complete team effort). I give him a little more credit than you do.

    2. The we need to do better stat. For me, by far and away it's: 41-183-4.5...rushing attempts, yards, and yards-per-carry for the Pats. We need to do much, much better or this will be a long season. Coming into this year, my biggest worry was our run defense. That didn't do much to allay my fear.

    769888

Sorry... did not see your post regarding the poor run defense before posting my reply above. We agree!

  10. The defense not only played well, they played very well. Yes, they couldn't stop the Pats when they needed to but it took diving TD receptions to do it. And you can't expect a shutout.

    769741

The Pat gained 180+ yards rushing averaging over 4.8 ypc(minus Brady's kneel downs at the end of the game). The defense had it's moments, but you won't win many games giving up that many rushing yards or that kind of ypc average.

  11. It has been discussed before.  The cable companies (and Dish) were not willing to spend as much money on the Ticket as DirecTV was.  The conversation basically went something like this:

NFL: Who's interested in buying the Ticket for ~$700M/year?

Cable: No way, that's too expensive!

Dish: No way, that's too expensive!

DirecTV: We'll do it, if you promise to make it exclusive to us until 2010.

    NFL: Deal.

    http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA479045.html

"Sources familiar with the negotiations said cable companies had an opportunity to get a piece of Sunday Ticket, but they balked at the high price."

That's why it's exclusive - DirecTV forked over a ton of cash and the cable companies weren't willing to do the same.

    CW

    765859

So what would have been better...getting 700 million from one provider or say for instance 300 million from each of the 3 or 400 million from 2 of the 3? I don't know if this was possible, but knowing that the number of subscribers would be much greater on cable, I am not sure why the NFL didn't work harder to get the the NFL Ticket onto cable tv.

  12. Maybe I can save 50 other people the trouble.........

What?! No Bills on the list?!?!?!

I'm sick of the national media's trenspar...transpairen.......transperr....invisible agenda against the Bills. They're obveeiously biased against anything from Buffalo and all they care about is blowing the dolfins and Patriots in every article ever written.

Putting Buffalo at 43rd in hteir power rankings is a personel insult to my great-grandmother and I can't wait til we make them eat crow. Of course even if we win 5 straight SuperBowls they'll probably still ignore us because we don't have Teddy Brewski and Tom Brady, who they only like because he's gay.

Wait til you see the email I'm sending to Chris Mortimer!!!!!!
