That's it... Watch the guy... He doesn't know what he is doing, still looks like a rookie. I was completely shocked when Jim Zorn, a former quarterback who should know better, came in and did not start Todd Collins. For the first time in a looong time, at the end of the previous season the Redskins had looked like a very good team, one with the potential to go all the way. BUT it was only because Collins--and NOT Campbell--was leading the way. I thought the fans would go nuts when he chose Campbell over Collins. Hate cliche, but Campbell can't hold Collins' jockstrap (might fumble it) as far as far as talent and leadership are concerned. I remember watching the Redskins' playoff game and thinking that they now have a quarteback who looks smooth, confident, accurate, with touch, and one his teamates clearly felt could lead them to wins even against playoff caliber teams. In other, words, literally the opposite of how Campbell had looked. NO WAY would Campbell have led that team to the playoffs that year. Even though he is OLD, I would still, with no reservations, take Collins over Campbell. So, that is it for me--the eyes don't usually deceive: Jason Campbell simply has not even looked like a competent backup quarterback, let alone one who could 'win consistently or even occassionally'. Period. Yeah, and I agree with the Fitzpatrick analysis too, that he looks better than Campbell. I don't want him as the starting QB because of his apparent physical limitations, but would feel dramatically more comfortable with him as the backup than Campbell. Campbell looks like an unprepared backup now, buiding his stats in garbage time or via weak defenses, and that is with most of the reps in practice, with the first team. Could you imagine Campbell coming off the bench!?! Scary proposition.... Say what you want, but watch the guy--he is not a good NFL quarterback, and we would be better off without him.

A lot of money and a pick, a player with potential to actually help this team. Campbell SUCKS--his stats are deceiving; he is a loser as qb, and not merely because he has not had great team--he makes them look bad, worse than they are. NO MORE LOSER QUARTERBACKS! These 'get Campbell' threads (or any similar losing quarterbacks), just makes me think of the 2-14 seasons, with the Vince Ferragamo types brought in, giving us ZERO chance to be a competitive team. Wasting our time, money, draft picks, locker space, and uniform on quarterbacks who aren't good, is the worst thing the Bills can do this offseason, sidetracks us as much as anything else can.

No doubt we need a good quarterback, but what I am saying is that without a good offensive line, a great quarterback will not mean very much--and, just as importantly, will not develop, no matter his talent level. You can also make a simliar list of great quartebacks that matches the one you have here, but have never even been to the Superbowl because they didn't have the base of the team in order, the lines. And you're welcome!

Yeah, I think this is the way to go: build the foundation now. It may not make the Bills a Superbowl team this year, but it will begin the process of moving us in that direction. To me, the rest is secondary now; we should get a receiver, maybe a tight end, and the rest should go to the offensive line and the defensive front 7. We will have two young lines, starting to build depth as well, and, then, in the next few years we could get our skill positions in order. But with better lines, the entire team should begin to look better soon. Build the base--and then get the rest. Because we all know that without great lines, we will never have a great team.

Yes, but come on though, the lines were the dominant factor, especially the defensive line-- I have rarely (if ever) seen the Patriots have no answers like that. I hope the Bills have as much savy as the responders in this thread though, and wait until at least the 4th to go after a qb, if that.

How can anyone argue with this, that the offensive line is the priority now? And the defensive front is not far behind? The Bills will surely just keep spinning their wheels if the lines are not greatly improved this year. Offensive linemen in 2 of the first 3-4 rounds, with the first pick going to that need as well. I believe that Edwards (or Brohm?) can be the quarterback of the future for the Bills, the longterm answer. But, if that does not work out, then the Bills will have a solid foundation on which to build in the next few years. No Jason Campbell!! No Tim Tebow. Invest in the foundation now, the lines. They have been neglected (or, maybe more accurately, bad decisions have been made) for too long. Time to build from the bottom up now. Taking a quarterback with a 1-2 pick or in a trade that costs this team too much, will continue the pattern of illogical grasping for a quarterback that started with the trade for Rob Johnson. Isn't it time to reverse course now and build the base of this team again?

Jason Campbell is a loser quarterback--and, in my view, will never be able to lead a team to any kind of real success. NO chance of him leading a team to the Superbowl. He looks like a rookie: still makes rookie mistakes, holds on to the ball too long, can't seem to read defenses, seems to have no touch on balls over 12 or so yards. Why bring is someone who looks soo bad, who, and I assume many would agree, offers this team almost no chance to either win consistently or to EVER take us to the promised land. It is a loser mentality to want to bring in some yahoo who looks like a college quarterback still. His winning percentage is awful--and if you have watched the Redskins (despite decent looking stats) he is often a HUGE reason that they lose. I think their team has been much better, but that Campbell makes them look like a hapless group with no chance. Let's say no to losers. The Bills have had enough of those since Kelly left.

It is as if some didn't learn much in school, don't know how to analyze or evaluate things in a logical way, as in this case... If Lynch does not perform this year--he will, I believe--or if he gets into another major legal crisis, then they'd have a point, but NOT NOW! We wouldn't win a game if some of the more illiogical people on this board made personnel moves for the Bills--and would have no hope for improvement.

I agree, but think Edwards and Brohm should be kept, at least given a chance to compete in camp. Collins still holds the Michigan record for completion percentage, which not coincidentally, was the same percentage he completed when he replaced for ( the much less talented) Campbell a few years ago, 64%. (And which is still is the 2nd best percentage in the history of the Big Ten.) He has little wear on his body, having played mainly in the preseason. Be great to see Collins finally get his chance as a starter, even at his age, and to help restore the team that should have never let him go, the Bills biggest mistake ever. And for all of those who have said to me in the past that if he was so good, he would have been a starter... He was behind the prodigal son in KC--Trent Greene, and then, the Redskins preferred Jason Campbell, not believing their own eyes, refusing to make Collins the starter, though he was the far superior quarterback in practice, preeason, and in regular season (and playoff) games. How many coaches could have saved their jobs if they had just believed their own eyes?

Well, they drafted him... Yeah, and so signed him. Getting rid of Collins was, in my view, the most detrimental move this organization has made since I have been watching in the late 70's: --He was never given a chance, a legitimate opportunity. (Probably some of the same wild eyed Bills fans who want to get rid of Lynch, Edwards. Williams... are the same ones who wanted Collins out: throw the bums out!) --The Bills let JIM KELLY go because they had so much confidence in Collins --It started a loooong line of inadequate quarterbacks for the Bills that persists to this day, one after another, that has made the Bills, again, one of the least successful teams in the NFL for the last decade plus --Those quarterbacks, none of them working out, have cost us a huge cache of high draft picks and money that could have been used to strengthen the Bills. Shoot, the picks given up for Rob Johnson alone (while Collins, 25?, was still on team) is almost in itself a reason to call the move to get rid of Collins one of the worst of all time. And then, consider all of the waste that has continued, from Johnson to Bledsoe to Losman to (maybe) Edwards. --Those picks and money would have enabled this team, with strong quarterback play by Collins, to be a much more solid team, in my view, a perennial playoff team still, if the other personnel moves were decent. I first saw Collins in a game at Rich stadium during his second year, when Kelly was out, looking like one of the most poised young quarterbacks I could recall ever seeing--standing in pocket with extreme pressure, leading the Bills to a victory, running the show like a seasoned veteran. Then, the first year he was a starter, being hung out to dry, replaced by ALEX VAN PELT, even after showing he could be very good, leading the Bills to one of the their best comebacks ever, again, looking like a much more experience quarterback than he was. The offense--the organization, direction, play calling--was horrible that year, and Collins was the scapegoat for dan henning's (?) atrocious year. Rob Johnson would then replace Todd Collins. Collins, in my view, would still be starting for the Bills, should be, and we would be a dramatically better team--with the quarterback we need, and all of the wasted picks and money on chump quarterbacks, that could've been used productively. The Redskins only real success in the last decade has been when Collins, because of an injury to Campbell, was starting. The Redskins, too, as foolish as the Bills, giving a chump one chance after another when they have had the quarterback all along who could've led them to the promised land.

No way; Celtic makes a great point. Tebow is changing his mechanics because he has to to be a successful NFL quarterback. Because he is just doing this now, we don't know how he will progress in his mechanics. Taking Tebow in round 4 or below would be a mistake, demonstrating similar logic as drafting McGahee in the first.

Yes, well said, as the Bills cannot afford to not give Edwards a chance, with statistics like the ones you point to a good indication that Bills fans have jumped the gun, as did Jauron last season. The Bills need better offensive and defensive lines. Both will make a difference in the development of Edwards next year. He is accurate, he is intelligent, and he has early career statistics that are similar to some of the best quarterbacks in the league. We don't know yet if he can be a consistently good starting quarterback, but the Bills need to strengthen everything around him, from lineman to coaches--and that will happen this offseason. The Bills needs to rebuild from the lines and up this offseason. Or, they will just keep spinning their wheels, with lines that cannot hold their own, as everything around weak lines crumbles. We have been too focused on our quarterback situation for much too long; time to focus on strengthening what is around him.

Good luck, Arizona! They went from the 2nd most accurate quarterback in the history of the NFL, to one of the least accurate. If Anderson starts, next season is going to be difficult for Cardinal fans to watch. A good coach there, so maybe he sees something others don't.

My post from the "Let's get Culpepper" thread. Ditto: Just add Campbell to the list. He is inconsistent, throws the ball 5-7 yards a shot in his 'good games' and will, in my estimation, never be a starting quarterback again. Zorn was another dumb coach in Washington, going down with the ship, as he played one of the league's all time worst long term starting quarterbacks. And all the while the Redskins have had a quarteback on their roster who actually could have lead them to the promised land, with the opposite qualities of a bum player like Campbell--Todd Collins.

If the Bills would like to get really bad, return to the 2-14 seasons of the 80s, then they should just follow the adivce of some on this board, as in this example. I cannot remember the last time that Culpepper had a good game, let alone looked anything like a starting NFL quarterback. The kind of move the Bills did in the mid 80s, pre-Polian. NO Vick, Culpepper, McNabb, Garcia... NO WAY!
