  1. !@#$ing Dan Reeves should be fired immediately.....how dare he consult them to a win..
  2. 1) Don't let super bowl participation stand in the way of hiring the right coach. TD was burned for not wanting to wait twice..first with Fox and maybe Lewis (noone knows what happened here) and then with Weis and Crennel. 2) The majority of times that a guy gets cut, is given up on or there is no interest in resigning him from a successful organization, it is usually not worth signing him... Look at our track record: Their former team either cut them, made it clear they wanted to trade them and replace them with better talent or had little interest in resigning them on the open market--never even making an offer. Their value has turned out below what the Bills are paying. All came from organizations that have experienced at least some form of success the last 5 years Lindell (SEA)-you could make an argument this year--but we are paying him top kicker money... Bennie Anderson (BAL) Lawyer Milloy (NE) Troy Vincent (PH) Bledsoe (NE) Teague (DEN) Exceptions- Spikes--Bengals wanted him so he doesn't count Fletcher (STL--had trouble keeping D talent and Lovie said he regretted him leaving) Adams (OAK--not exactly successful) Chris V. (CHI) has not had a good year and a horrible game last night...but still okay--CHI not successful until this year Posey--has not played up to his value but HOU did want to retain him So removing Spikes -- most of the guys we took risks on whose team didn't want them--have not contributed at a level that matches their salary. So--we have had better success with guys from crappy teams whose teams by evidence of results are less than stellar at judging talent. 3) When you sense you made a hiring mistake--cut the tie sooner rather than later.. - Should TD be here now after the Williams hire decision? - Should Williams have been here for a 3rd year after a 3-5 finish to the 2003 season. - Should Bledsoe have been here for 2004 after the disaster of 2003? ND had a decision to make with Ty Willingham--the votes were split--they made the tough call and look where a different coach took the same team... 4) There are a combination of 10 line positions on a starting football team (counting TE)--this compares to 3 LB; 4 DB; 1 QB; 2 WR; 2 RB/FB....half your free agent signings and half your draft picks should focus on restocking these positions...and they should be spread throughout the draft... In the Donahoe era; Drafts 2005 2 OL in 6 picks 2004 2 OL and 1 DL in 5 picks 2003 1 OL, 1TE and 1 DL in 7 picks 2002 2 OL/2DL in 8 picks 2001 2 OL/1 TE/3 DL in 12 picks Total: 18 picks in 38 selections-- But looking deeper--in 5 years-only 2 OL selected in the first 3 rounds and only one of those is still on the team (Mike Williams--the other signed a huge FA deal (Jennings) in 5 years....by contrast--5 of the DL picks have been in the first three rounds and all still remain with the team...(Schobel, Denny, Kelsay, Anderson, Edwards)... I haven't done the free agent analysis..but our position player trades/free agents of note have been: Fletcher, Chris V, Spikes, Bledsoe, Bennie Anderson, Sam Adams, Lawyer Milloy, Troy Vincent, Posey, Gandy, Campbell, Shelton, Teague....that's 13--6 are in the "line positions" and of those 6--only Chris V and Teague got marquee contracts--the rest were low second and third tear..and more importantly were on the market for a while with little or no other interest. We seem to get one or two years of good production from most of these guys but not a long history. So--I know this is a lot of Monday morning QBing---but its kind of a "you reap what you sew" argument...little investment -- little return..we need to invest more to get guys on the DL that can do more than be average -- take up two guys or beat one on one blocking--and we need an interior OL and an OT that we can put on a island and win their battle 98% of the time--we don't have that right now--Schobel is the closest on D--and there is noone on O. So what's all this mean...when we make the changes we make during the offseason--I will judge based on how well we follow these learnings...I don't know much--but I know that making the same mistakes over and over for 5 years is not worthy of retention...and that publicly challenging your veterans and trying to play secret squirrel with the rest of the happenings on the team (injury status, etc.) is not a sign of someone mature enough to be a head coach. Ralph needs to keep the keys for a while and give them to a pair of someones who will make smarter decisions--possibly avoiding the situations that caused me to observe these learnings.....
  3. What is the franchise designation cap hit for a 3rd or 4th receiver who has frequent cases of the dropsies..about $1.50..... In addition to WR being a dime a dozen..its one of the easier positions to make the jump from College to Pros in my mind...especially in a #3 slot role where getting off the line is a little easier.
  4. I am embarrassed for you.....
  5. Read the December 15th Entry Here it is if you don't want to click the link: Update: 12/15/05 WE ARE BLESSED! I have finally finished with the Chemotherapy treatments. At the last recheck at the doctor's office, they removed my CVC line, took me off all the medications and told us not to come back for 3 months! Praise God! I am beginning to gain some weight back and have even seen a little bit of hair growth. I get sick and tired of being sick and tired but I am still working on patience. There have been times when we are so overwhelmed or just too tired to pray for ourselves, but we were reminded and strengthened by your continued prayers and energized by your emails. Everywhere we look, there is someone who needs prayer, encouragement, or physical/material health. I pray we will continue to pass on what you have given us. I thank God for His healing and pray that we will use it to help others. While there is life, there is hope; never give up! Through any situation, you have a choice to be the victim or the victor; be the victor! With love, Joe and Family
  6. I am feeling kind of queasy.... I asked for TD to become a siamese twin to Martha Stewart or Senator Clinton
  7. For a plate of rettata To get Tedy Bruschi's autograph To find a candidate for the Head Coach or GM or both job(s) To change the world (God bless them)
  8. What's black and white and read all over? or What's Black and White and red all over? Newspaper or Nun with a javelin through her head...
  9. Quadratic equations are probably her turn on...talk derivatives to me baby...
  10. Instead of the Truman show its the Tedy show....
  11. forgot honorary Bill--Tedy Bruschi...
  12. The security guy who got run over by Lee Evans Lee Evans George Wilson Lionel Gates Jason Peters Brian Moorman London Fletcher Terrence McGee JP Losman Josh Stamer Angelo Crowell Mike Gandy Aaron Schobel Ryan Denny Eric King and a partridge in a pear tree...
  13. Gale was good--but Billy Joe Hobert would be better. To understand a lack of preparation and combat it you need to have lived it. No one under prepared like Billy Joe...he is the perfect head coach.
  14. He's just trying to make the opposition over confident this week.....
  15. Yeah but the collection plate passing after every touchdown would make up some of the lost revenue....
  16. Q: What does losing Zeigler mean to the Bills? Buchsbaum: From Buffalo’s standpoint, it doesn’t hurt badly if they can re-sign Ruben Brown and Joe Panos is healthy. But if they lose one of those guys, that means they’d have to go to Jamie Nails, and Nails is too fat and runs out of gas too quickly. ___________________________________________________________ If that scrawny, freakish looking little Buchsbaum guy was still alive--I would kick his ass for calling my man Jamie too fat...he never stood behind him--Jamie never ran out of gas baby... I miss Joel Buchsbaum....those PFW draft books just haven't had the same biting commentary since he passed.
  17. Jesus...high pain tolerance; charismatic; able to walk on water and turn water into wine. Heard he can cure the blind so he probably can help with JP's development and Josh Reed's dropsies. Good scout--can see right to the prospect's soul. Deals with the media like the pharisees. Probably will work cheap. Has a birthday coming up--Ralph should send him a gift. I will settle for nothing less. We have had the Son of Satan as a President/GM--perhaps we need to go another direction. Sadly--this is one of the more sane speculations on the board these last couple of weeks...
  18. Sounds like he is gearing up for his next job as a Frito Lay salesman...
  19. No, but I heard NFL Iraq is looking for teams...its the whole democratization strategy..we could end terrorism --finally a noble accomplishment...
  20. lets see-a $25,000 investment in 1960 returns annual income in the low 8 figures and is now worth at least $400 million...I think Ralph has the money to spend on a coach. What a great time to take on an additional investor like Tom G., Bob Rich or Jeremy Jacobs so that we have a smooth transition...
  21. I really value your opinion Simon...do you believe that everyone assumed this was a throw away year and that Donahoe and Mularkey are safe? I just don't see us any better next year if we don't cut off the head and start anew. What's attractive to a decent assistant coach or an established veteran player to come here when they know that the coach and president/GM are on the thinnest of thin ice....
  22. TD's coach picking record is pretty stellar.....the most successful coach he ever had a hand in choosing got his ass fired in a turf battle--now the two boobs he hired to coach during his Bills tenure are going to be his Waterloo.
  23. I heard JJ is really interested in the sport of competitive ice fishing...what a better place to hone your skill. All that hairspray will shield him from the cold..plus now he can crush a box of Flutie Flakes in our locker room and it would be okay.... I think there is a lot of substance to this rumor...we should start a new thread..from Son of Satan to Pork faced Satan..
  24. Didn't you know--he is every owner and GM's number 1 head coaching prospect....
  25. This is a wild game...I remember when we used to play games like this......sighhhhhhhhhhhhh....it seems like ancient history.... Ahhh the kicker.........the damn kicker.....
