With the # 8 pick the Vikings select....
JoeF replied to Blue Chipper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would make this deal with the Vikes....it comes out about even... Vikes get #8 and #70, #105 Bills get #17, #48 and #51 Value board says...they owe us 450 points for the move to #8 They give us 360 ponts above the 450 with the two second rounders We give them 240 back with the third rounder and 84 with the 105 pick...the 40 point premium is rounding error for them to get Cutler. We end up with 5 picks in the top 73...#17, #41, #48, #51, #73 in a deep draft... I want both their seconds to make this deal.... -

His additional investments I believe are all operating expenses for which he may not have made a net profit every year of the 46 but he probably has a significant net profit over that entire period. He has never to my knowledge taken ownership of a facility as some owners have or invested in a facility which would be additional capital expenditure -- that has all been public money. Hammer, Lori, Bob Lamb, GG, Rockpile or someone who has more of a knowledge of history of the franchise may know better. The franchise appreciation in value is a capital appreciation. You can't compare the two...but both in net operating profit for the 46 years of franchise operation and in capital appreciation of total franchise value he has made a relative killing compared to other places he could have invested. I don't give a sh-- whether you agree or not--its the way it is...the capital appreciation part is inarguable...the net is admittedly speculative but as Kelly said he would have gotten rid of the team ages ago if he wasn't making the net. Basing part of his argument for poor mouthing on losing $10M next year is a !@#$ing joke. -

Fish--noone is denying it was a risk in 1960 to invest the $25K. Noone is denying that Ralph is a shrewd entrepreneur who worked his ass off for today's franchise value and finally, noone is denying his loyalty to WNY. However, you can't ignore what the franchise is worth today and you can't ignore that his net over the years is probably 10's if not 100's of millions of dollars in net profit from the team. What investment in a start up are you aware of that turns a profit right away? To have as a core message of reasoning to put "the franchise future in Buffalo in doubt" be a projected $10M loss for next year is really challenging our intelligence. Its not Nigera, its reality.... -

Nobody said Ralph is lying and one would be pretty naive to believe the threat of moving is anything but serious....but don't try to sell me that losing $10M this next year is a huge concern when your original investment has 20,000 times the value now...(based on $500M)... Just change the messaging all to future tense and concern about degrading the franchise value and never again being able to run the franchise profitably without a change in the league revenue mix...but don't message around the short term $10M loss when you have made probably hundreds of million in profits and franchise value appreciation the past 46 years.. Its idiocy to talk about $10M... -

I know this will be interpreted as disloyal and I love Ralph...but its really hard for me to jump on board the "Ralph pity train" when he has an asset he invested $25K in 1960 that is now worth north of a half a billion with probably net profits over those 46 years in the hundreds of millions of dollars...all paid by you and me and TV.... I am okay with fighting for every dollar in the new agreement and fighting to make up the $10-15 million dollars in annual losses that Littman (who by the way looks like what you think of when you hear the word accountant) now predicts from the new CBA and do all you can to make this franchise valuable for the new ownership group, but save the poverty argument Ralph--its really disingenuous... -
Mel Kiper on Mike & Mike this morning
JoeF replied to FightClub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bunkley scares me a bit...you draft gurus (Rich, Astro) have more of an educated opinion....but I worry about durability.. 2 knee injuries (one in HS/One in college) Numerous other lower leg injuries Senior season in college was really the first full year playing without an injury I am just concerned about breaking down--the pro game is more brutal in the trenches and this guy got injured a lot in college. I say--make a trade with the Vikes -- take their 2 seconds and their number 1 and get a couple of DT's (McCargo being one); the best OG; a OT with potential and go from there... -
I don't have the facts to back this up, but I would guess some teams have more money tied up in 2 receivers than we have in our whole corps. I am okay if the numbers for Peerless are a $1 Million to $1.5 Million cap hit for '06.
-
All that matters in this deal is the signing bonus. Before I crucify the front office on this one--I want to make sure I understand the up front guarantee. The upside of the old Peerless is intriguing but I also recall the untimely fumbles, penalties and other drive killing errors... We have a lot of speed at wideout--but can any of them get open without Moulds occupying two guys....that's the big question.

Marv on with Sean Salisbury and John Clayton

Thanks for the thanks, Dudes and you to CL... I am still trying to get over the image of JP coming up to Marv and saying "Hey Dude"....JP probably isn't hated, its more like.."Is this kid for real?" The entire culture of the operation at OBD has changed in 3 short months. I don't know what the results will be, but instead of big splash moves, open warfare with players, etc..the approach is understated and family like with Marv playing a Yoda like charachter... I was surprised that Clayton and Salisbury didn't ask about the status of the team given Ralph's comments and meetings the last few days but the subject was not broached. -
Highlights: 1) Reiterated that JP is not on the block. Likes JP's work ethic. Said JP has to earn the respect of his team with his performance. Sean asked him if the team disliked JP -- Marv said that JP is very west coast--he might come up to me and say "Hey Dude", but again reiterated that respect is earned through performance and also said not to mistake personality for a person's charachter. 2) About Moulds...Marv said there were no other offers. Houston was the only team to meet Eric's financial parameters and offer a trade. Marv said they took what they were offered, the first pick in the 5th round. He thinks the combination of Reed, Evans, Davis and others has great potential. Singled out Andre Davis as someone who could surprise people if he stays healthy. Said they needed Moulds' cap money to build the lines properly...sounds like more moves in FA prior to and after the draft. 3) Said he took the job because he loves the atmosphere in Buffalo. 4) Said the first parameter he and Ralph set after talking to all 6 candidates in the head coach search process was they wanted experience and then they wanted Defense...Jauron was the man. These were the highlights...good interview as always with Marv.

Thanks Simon. He's probably right on schedule. Coming from Div 1AA he had a big adjustment years one and two. Here was his draft profile. Very smart kid. But I love the name of his High School...Flathead High... Dylan McFarland

No way. What a loser attitude you have my Touchdown Jesus friend. Marv's been on the job for less than four months and he already has displayed enough to be fired. It won't happen though because our fossil, tightwad owner won't want to pay him a severance. There are plenty on this message board who obviously had Soprano like insider information as to all the details of the Moulds situation. They know everything about the transaction and the communication between and among player, agent and team, they know everything about the interest from the others teams..enough to cast judgement that this was just another bad decision by our incompetent fuggin ancient GM. A lot of them are the same group that know everything about the Losman situation. Man where's that whore that was in the town square. I want to continue to throw stones....

Bills Sign 4 " Street " Free Agents....

Kiwaukee Thomas from Scouts, Inc. He is a tough and competitive football player. He looks smooth in his pedal - shows good burst coming forward out of his pedal. Shows a little stiffness in his hips when he has to flip and run but does show range and catch-up speed while the ball is in the air. He is better from press than off coverage. Can get physical in press - can jam and re-route - good strength with his hands when playing press. He is a solid pursuit player - will come across the field and make plays. Needs to improve his route recognition playing from off. Overall he is a solid backup DC that can provide solid depth and contribute on special teams. -

Damn..I thought this thread would be about alcohol....way to disappoint me man...

What's that have to do with how much Moulds is worth in comparison to Henry..stay on subject...
-
Who was benched by the time we traded him....who plays a position where the shelf life is about 6 years for a starter.....yep--same guy...We are trading a guy who would be our #1 receiver all time if we could have found him a decent QB to play with...no comparison in talent.
-
I keep coming back to the fact that we got a third rounder for Travis Henry....Travis Henry.......Travis Henry.... Cough it up Casserly--there is not anyone else left on the market...5 picks in the top 75 of this draft sounds real good...a nice foundation for rebuilding. We do hold some cards here...we can just hold on to Eric until we get our price..there is no urgency here..I think we learned that from the Travis Henry situation.

Breaking news...Bills are asking for the rights to Tony Boselli, one of the Texans 3rd round draft picks and for our original LB coach back....
