Even if he makes the 53, I would expect he is inactive on game days until one of the other backs gets hurt.

I still don't understand why we would need Croom later with Kroft, Smith, Knox and Sweeney on the roster. Are they anticipating Kroft getting hurt again already?

If the re-tooled OL doesn't do its job (especially if Morse stays healthy), Shady goes on to have a comeback season elsewhere while Gore and Singletary disappoint, etc. We would have to question Beane more so than claim "we just need one more year." We threw down some coin this year. Last year was the year Beane got a pass. This year we need results. I think Beane knows what's up, but it still comes down to the QB.

Yes. His contract is terminated with us and he can sign a brand new contract anywhere immediately. However, as a vested vet, any contract he signs now must be fully guaranteed. If he signs after week one, it does not have to be guaranteed.

IF Morse goes down again, I think they are ready to roll with Long/Feliciano/Bates. Maybe drafting a guy next year? Don't see any way we trade for a C though.
