Was Don Meredith a dandy? Outstanding.

Maybe because the media overlooks boxing completely. Maybe because boxing is notorious for attacking rants. Why aren't you complaining about his attack on midgets?

Questions and tips about the new board...
The Dean replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are two kinds of polls, it seems. Annon polls where no one can see who voted for what. (I believe that's the default and is typical of most polls on message boards and was the way of the old polls). And public polls where everyone can see who voted for what. The public polls have the disclaimer. -

Marshawn Lynch - could he get cut?
The Dean replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, dismissing the absurdity of this for a second. You think the Bills might be able to get a 4th for him, but maybe less. Let's say it's a 6th. Would you throw away a $10 bill because it wasn't a $20? How about a $5? -

I'm thinking, since the chat room is always open (I think) we could probably schedule the chats ourselves. If someone knows a person who would make a good subject, couldn't they invite him/her and schedule the chat on The Stadium Wall? Just a thought. Of course, some of the venerable members of the board might want to host a chat. I can see it now: DC Tom invites you to the chat room for an evening of insults. The Chef chats about food, and how freaking bad everything you like really is. Darrin hosts a night of calling you a pinhead. The Dean chats with you about how much of a moron you are. :worthy: Thanks, I needed that today. -
Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4
The Dean replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the sake of this conversation, does it really matter if GB "matched" the Bills offer? You posted: I think ANY move to keep him (including keeping him on the PS) especially an offer to be on their roster is pretty solid evidence they placed some value on him. Was it the kind of value you might expect from a 2nd round QB? No. But the Pack wasn't in a typical situation, either. But discounting this all, what the Pack did with Brohm shouldn't represent the bottom line on what BB can, or may, do. Teams do make misjudgments on players, from time to time. -
DirecTV to offer games online without DirecTV sat subscription

Hey , I hear that. I have had one or two crappy landlords and one or two that were probably your basic, does the minimum of what he is required, landlord. But I have also had fantastic, bend over backwards for you, really cares about his property and his tenants landlords as well. My point being, for some DTV might not be a very tempting alternative, if the landlord doesn't want them to install it. Yes, you probably can get it and there may be situations where you say "Screw him/her. I'm getting the dish." But from personal experience I also think the relationship you have with a good landlord may not be worth testing, if he really doesn't want you to install the dish. Landlords do not have to break the law to be marginal, or even crappy, landlords. IMO the wishes of a good landlord should at least be considered by a tenant. If not for the landlord's interest, then for keeping a great living situation alive and healthy. -

Let's try this again. After the Bills made their offer to Brohm, GB made a counter offer to keep him. Did they value him "at all"? I think that is POSITIVE PROOF they did. You don't keep someone on the PS if you have ZERO use for them and you certainly don't make him a counter offer. The Bills waived Fred Jackson in 2006 (I can't remember if he was on the PS). Does that mean they had NO interest in him, didn't value him and (by your logic) mean he is worthless as an NFL player? -

You had to go to court and still don't see the downside? How about wasting your time in court? I had a landlord, who was a friend, and took VERY good care of my apt. He could have easily "followed the law" and been a downright miserable landlord. There is a big difference between a landlord that does the minimum the law requires of him and a great landlord. -

I understand this, to be sure. You're already working yourself into a frenzy in the anticipation it will happen, and the season hasn't started yet. I'm glad I live crawling distance from a bar that shows the games. Like you I prefer to watch at my home, but the convenience is too great to offset the cost, IMO. One or two games a year I try to stream at home, and if I don't get a good feed I highstep it over to the bar. -

Once again, because it doesn't fit your argument, you fail to mention GB made BB a counter offer to get him to stay, after the Bills made their move. -
Bob Matthews, Matt Leinart, and Short Memories
The Dean replied to RJ (not THAT RJ)'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best way to deal with Matthews is simply ignore him. He is football-stupid, like Sully. With that said, it is perfectly OK for him to have campaigned for Leinart when he was in the draft, and not wanting him on the team now. That would suggest he has reconsidered his position based on Matt's play in the NFL. Yes, it would be nice if he, in bold print, recognized his earlier misjudgment. But I doubt that clown remembers what he had for breakfast. I'd just as soon scatter pictures of possible QB candidates on the floor, and pick the one my dog pissed on as use Matthews' judgment. -
Thanks, bug. It is now on my stick! I haven't had to uninstall Avast too often, as it usually is performing well on machines I work on. AVG, McAfee, Norton and Trend Micro almost always are screwing up and have to go when I work on problem machines.

You can be nearly positive it wasn't Guy. Guy might have made a recommendation, but Guy didn't unilaterally make player acquisitions. -

But that's the throw Trent has to make if he is going to be decent in the NFL. BALL UP and make the throw. Trust the WR to make the play. There was no game thread, so I must have missed all the Evans bashers saying Lee doesn't help the QB out and doesn't fight for the ball. -

That doesn't mean they have "no control". A landlord can be very accommodating or make your life pretty miserable. Let's be honest. If your landlord tells you he absolutely does NOT want you installing a dish, you should think twice or even three times before doing so. -
Fair enough If I were making the call based only on what I have seen in preseason, and what I have personally seen of these QBs in the past, I'd: Keep Trent as #1 to start the season. He looks to be improved and a bit more confident than the past couple of seasons. Fitz would start the season at #2. He'd be the guy that has to go in if/when Trent gets knocked out or falters (although NFL coaches rarely pull the QB for poor play anymore). He'd also start the week after Trent goes down and is unavailable. (This is usually a short week for QB prep as the decision isn't often made until Wednesday, and Fitz has more starting experience.) I'd be getting BB ready to be a starting QB the way many good starting QBs are trained; Watching from the sidelines. He'd also be the guy I would look to be the eventual starter if Trent went down for an extended period. This assumes Fitz is nothing more than serviceable in any starting stints. Brown goes to PS (hopefully passing waivers) and becomes a longer term prospect. There is no way he should be playing in a real game for at least a year or two.

I agree people deserve a second, and even third chance in life. I think Vick could have been given another chance at a lower-profile, lower-paying job, before going right back on the pedestal and once again becoming a highly paid, public representative of the NFL. There probably aren't too many companies that would take a convicted felon and immediately give him a multi-million dollar job to publicly represent the company. As for Ben, he would probably get nothing more than a slap on the hand from most companies, for being accused of something but not charged. But if he were a very public figure, as Ben is, he might be suspended, demoted or even fired. -

As a CB, even if he is listed as behind Florence he will see PLENTY of time on the field. His ass won't see much bench. He is a budding star at CB, IMO.

Avira is outstanding. Avast is also quite a bit better than AVG. Try the free version of one and see if you like it. Of the two, Avira has a better detection and cleaning rate and you don't have to register (just uncheck everything on the registration page when installing and hit Next). I recommend you do a Custom Install. Check "Select All" when given a list of what you want to be protected against (for some reason that isn't the default) and then select Secure Start. By default it updates once a day (I advise scheduling it to do a complete system scan once a week). It updates invisibly, but opens a popup window with an ad for the paid version. You only get this ad once a day, and hitting "OK" dismisses it. You have to register Avast once a year. By default it announces when it updates, but you can turn the sound off. You also should schedule a once a week full scan. Scheduling the scan at a day/time when you aren't likely to be too busy on the computer makes life easier and both of these products have that capability. I listed some other good AV products in an early post in this thread, too. Oops. One more thing. When removing Norton, McAfee and in some cases AVG it is best to use the removal tool for the product. For Norton and McAfee don't bother with the uninstaller in Windows. Just run the respective removal tool to make sure they are properly uninstalled: http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html For AVG, use the Uninstall AVG in windows and then use this: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools Avira and Avast need no special removal tools to be properly uninstalled.
