Are we ramping up to war with North Korea?
ALF replied to dpberr's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
China pledges neutrality - unless US strikes North Korea first China’s government says it would remain neutral if North Korea attacks the United States, but warned it would defend its Asian neighbor if the U.S. strikes first and tries to overthrow Kim Jong Un’s regime, Chinese state media said Friday. “If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime, and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so,” reported the Global Times, a daily Chinese newspaper controlled by the Communist Party. http://www.foxnews.c...orea-first.html That does not help at all. It just empowers N Korea even more to continue short of attacking another country. Why would N Korea need nukes or missiles if China guarantees no regime change and defend against a first strike. They could thrive without sanctions. -

Agree , good answer -
How so ? Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961 (part of) in the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government. Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific technological elite. It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/eisenhower001.asp

If the N Korea military does not take out the madman , put trade sanctions on China until they force them to turn over nuclear and missile program to UN. -

Gives the U.S. a chance to test it's anti missile system on Guam or Aegis system on a navy ship. -
Just going from this quote "But diplomats said that after the US and Cuba restored full diplomatic ties in 2015, the campaign of harassment stopped." The article made it sound like the harassment has restarted . If it is happening now then it is Trump's problem to deal with .

Trump had a lot of campaign speeches that might have ticked Cuba off I'm just guessing.

"But diplomats said that after the US and Cuba restored full diplomatic ties in 2015, the campaign of harassment stopped." I thought Trump changed that policy once in office https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/06/22/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-trumps-cuba-policy-and-who-it-will-hurt/

US embassy employees in Cuba possibly subject to 'acoustic attack' One official said the employees could have suffered permanent hearing loss as a result. The employees affected were not at the same place at the same time, but suffered a variety of physical symptoms since late 2016 which resembled concussions. http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/09/politics/us-cuba-acoustic-attack-embassy/index.html

https://go.berniesanders.com/page/s/bernie-sanders-mfa?source=em170809-full Will introduce Medicare for all Now let me be totally clear: if Republicans try again to repeal Obamacare, we will fight them with everything we have. But our ultimate goal is to understand that in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, health care must be a right, not a privilege, for every man, woman and child. That is why, in just a few weeks, I am going to introduce a Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care bill in the United States Senate. It is time to wage a moral and political war against a dysfunctional health care system in this country. Say you’re with me:

Anthony Scaramucci: 'Pence can't believe what the f*** is going on' In newly released quotes from the interview, Scaramucci suggests that Mike Pence's new chief of staff was hired to protect the Vice President from political chaos in the Trump Administration. "Why is Nick there, bro," Scaramucci asked Lizza. "Nick's there to protect the vice president because the vice president can't believe what the !@#$ is going on." https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/08/09/anthony-scaramucci-pence-cant-believe-what-the-f-is-going/23072905/

Deshaun Watson shines in Texans' preseason opener Watson enjoyed a promising pro debut versus Carolina's backups and third-stringers. Will he need more seasoning before he can duplicate that performance against NFL starters? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000827711/article/deshaun-watson-shines-in-texans-preseason-opener

To be fair the economy was crashed when 44 took office. Two major wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It took 8 years to get back to normal imo -
Deshaun Watson the QB the Bills passed on drafted #12 Also curious about Mahomes #10 , that was the Bill's traded pick to KC
