Like everyone says the difference in talent in the NFL isn’t much. Most games are close. The ones that aren’t are when teams shoot them selves in the foot either with turnovers, penalties or missed opportunities.
Our game against Dallas, IMO, was evident of this. We get a couple penalties to sustain drives that result in TDs and the outcome of that game was drastically different than if those didn’t happen.
The first Miami game this season our offense was flawless. Josh had a perfect passer rating, Diggs was awesome and our offense couldn’t be stopped. Tonight our offense could move the ball but just made some boneheaded plays that didn’t sustain drives or score points for us.
The following list of plays could have drastically changed the outcome of the game.
1)Josh’s first pick. Dumb play. -3 points.
2)Josh’s second pick. Guy in the flat was open to sustain drive. luckily it was fourth down and actually cost the dolphins yards
3) Josh misses bomb to Diggs. We punt on that drive. -7 points4) Same drive right before half. McD takes a TO on 3rd and 5 with just under a minute left. Cook drops another uncontested TD. Then Josh doesn’t throw it to the EZ. Out of time. -7 points.
5) Josh fumbles on the dolphins 20 yard line on third down. -3 points.
Those plays cost us 20 points right there. That puts us up 27-14 going into the fourth quarter (maybe) and throws the dolphins out of rhythm offensively and forces them to start throwing. Our defense is built to play with a lead, not from behind.
We made none of these errors in our first meeting. We played mistake free and played complimentary football.
Luckily Harty started us out with that punt return. And Josh was able to get a Td and kill a ton of clock and all of Miami’s TOs.
PS. We need a surprise pass play out of the tush push (to a leaking TE) when teams like Miami commit everything to stop it.
The first pick…the play before was an uncalled mugging. Likely mean a TD.
The second pick on 4th down not a big deal.
Cook TD drop cost 7
the turnover on sack cost 3.
this could have been 38-14

This is me right now…
Bills win, get #2 seed and are an unstoppable force to the SB
Bills lose, and this season is an abject failure the like that this 60 yo fan has never seen.
Both are perfectly legit thoughts occupying my brain right now. I love/loath being a Bills fan.
I don’t recall…are you part of fire coach threads? -

One would win the division with a jags loss not sure which
Colts have the tiebreaker because colts beat Texans earlier in the year.
game tied colts in 1st
jax tie/ win they get division.

You could go with a rotating 8 team division.
you play H-H against each for 14 games with 2 byes
Round 1 division winner gets a bye. Then 2-7, 3-6,4-5 play each other in round 2 of playoffs
round 2 is top team and 3 survivors
round 3 is quarterfinals in a bracket where 2 division teams won’t meet again until Super Bowl
round 4 semifinals
round 5 Super Bowl
-
If they did such a format….it’s more likely going to be…
2 16 team conferences
you play 12 or 13 of the 15 teams with a pre-set cycle of what 2/3 teams you don’t play over a 6/5 yr period
then you play 4-5 games against NFC teams on a set rotation for 8 yrs. The 5th game could be a “ rivalry” game such as cross city/ state rivals and Super Bowl rematch’s, conf finals losers face each other.

Why is Buffalo airing jets-cheats game??? This is utterly meaningless. Tampa bay is playing for something st least.

shared what?
hoe buffalo in first meeting did stuff to limit what Miami did limiting them to 20 points. Buffalo didn’t run up the score.Buffalo exposed the Eagles defense thst other teams have repeatedly done that they have yet to adjust.
yes— all teams are researched for tendencies in situations and plays by formation. With some..thry don’t care and say try to stop us.

It's weird, I feel much less confident about the bills in the playoffs this year than in years past. They've won 4 straight, and assuming they beat Miami, they'd ultimately have to win 9 straight games to win the superbowl, which seems unlikely Imo. I mean, maybe the offense steps up big and they become this unstoppable force, but the offense is REALLY gonna have to step up. This team isn't getting through Baltimore (and others) with Diggs having 40 yards a game
as a #2 or #6 or #7?
as #2…..
host Indy/ hou
Mia at KC
cle at south
if Mia can best KC …think it’s possible, buffalo host 4/5. 50/50 shot at hosting championship game
if KC wins, buf host them.CLE would be problem for balt. Buffalo could host CLE.
as #7 seed…BUF/MIA rematch, then to BAL, then at whose left. This could be harder.

Here is the TV schedule for the wild card games. It looks like the Peacock-only games will be on Saturday.
https://amp.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-playoff-schedule-bracket
Given that the Bills play Sunday night and assuming we make the playoffs, I have to think there is a good chance we play Sunday or even Monday?
(I am trying to figure out a way to avoid paying for Peacock again. Also, i will be on a cruise over that weekend, and so I am really hoping we get the MNF game, as I have no idea if I will be able to watch the game while on board).
Saturday
#6 /7 at Lions ( nbc)
#5 browns at AFC South ( peastream)
Sunday
#7 at #2 AFC#7 /6 at NFC East
#6 at Chiefs
Monday
eagles/cowboys at nfc south
DIVISION
Saturday
At Ravens
Other NFC game
Sunday
At AFC 2nd highest seed
NFC 5/ 4 winner vs ???

If you could give a 2024 New Year's roster resolution to Beane and McDermott, what would it be?
My Bills Resolution:
The Bills will not carry a FB during the 2024 season.
sigh……
for a 53 man roster…..
23 offense — 2 QB, 3 RB, 9 OL, 5 WR, 3 TE , 1 wildcard position.
23 Defense — 8 DL, 1, DE/LB, 4 LB, 9 DBs, 1 wildcard position
P
K
LS
2 ST captains
2 other spots ( 1 is usually a K/P returner)
if that ST captain is a FB so be it.

Many of the games looked better when scheduled by the AWS algorithm.
Maybe NFL needs better parameters for the program.
AWS did not program the games.
the “national” games are set before the schedule is filled out. Thr “ national” games sre those on nbc, espn, Amazon, 425 feature games, and thanksgiving/ Saturday games, as well as international games. Others are plugged in as blocks like you see weekends you might have 3 games in east/ central/ north at west team set for the same weekend….this isn’t the luck of computing. They have a set of 120 team pairs they can choose from.
the computational complexity makes it difficult to run programs to do.

Similar to why MVP=best QB.
the fact he almost died and didn’t retire, but return to play, speaks much more than stats.

After playing around with the playoff simulator, there's a plausible way the Bills miss out that involves only one potential underdog having to win in a group of 8 games over the next two weeks.
Week 17
Bills over pats
Colts over Raiders
Jags over Panthers
Texans over Titans
Steelers over Seahawks
All the teams above are home favourites except for the Steelers who are a 3 pt underdog on the road
Week 18
Dolphins over Bills
Jags over Titans
Steelers over Ravens
Bills likely a small underdog next week. Jags on the road but will still be favoured. Steelers likely playing Ravens backups if Ravens win this week in Miami and will be favoured if so.
Hopefully they take care of business in Miami so all of this is moot.
And before anyone asks, yes I'm fun at parties.
Again….
buffalo splits WL to get to 10 wins they can’t have 2 other WC teams at 10 wins other than Cleveland snd thrmselbes.
the teams that can get to 10 wins by WW are
Cincinnati. At KC, CLE
Pittsburgh at SEA, at BAL
Jacksonville CAR ( without Lawrence Sunday), at TEN
houston/ Indy where only 1 can due to thrm playing each other in week 18. This week houston has Ten, indy has raiders
both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh have difficult closing schedules to go WW in. If MIA W, then BAL/CLE are battling for div title and these games are at the same time likely on different networks.IF JAX L, then only the div winner could have 10 W

Some have been asking in the playoff threads, so figured it could be good to have its own thread.
That said, mods please merge if you feel the need to do so.
Go Bills!
As I said before…in other threads…..a W and 2 of the following occur….
1. CIN L/T
2. PIT L/T
3. Either JAX L OR HOU and IND both L
It guaranteed only at most 1 other team can get to 10 wins in a WC spot other than BUF and CLE
screw ties……..
these still apply for week 18 if BUF only win one of next 2 games. In week 18 HOU/IND face each other

You will get little argument from me that Miller has not nearly shown anywhere near his past productivity, particularly with what the franchise is paying him. But I would argue that there is a lot more that we don't know about his injury/recovery than we do know:
a.) What was the severity of the original injury, and what is the usual recover time to full speed from such an injury? (A lot of his game is built on speed and quickness)
b.) How successful was the surgery, and have there been complications in the recovery limiting speed and agility?
c.) What are the doctors and trainers telling him now? How much pain and swelling is he getting during repeated use?
d.) Are the Bills aware of his limitations, but putting him out on the field in certain situations just to draw extra attention?
I would assume he is a professional athlete with a desire to win, and not just taking plays of because he's afraid of getting hurt again. If his physical condition was as bad as it may appear without hope for improvement, I would have thought the team would have shut him down on IR...We may never have the answers to a lot of these questions until the season is over.
This was an injury that takes 18+ months for 100% recovery.

Sal Capaccio said that he thinks it will be a game where the winner is in and loser is out. If the Bills clinch this week, I don't think it happens. I think you will see something like Texans vs Colts or something like that. I think Bills vs Dolphins gets Saturday night
That is priority #1 in a choice.
HOU/IND if they both W can be for a WC or div title
BUFW/MIA L can be for div title but they could be stuck in a WC rematch so neither may be playing their stars.

If the Bills win this week, and the Fins lose, the Buffalo/Miami game has to be a lock to be flexed to SNF right??
I don’t have the schedule in front of me, but I can’t think there would be a more compelling game than a game with the AFC East and the #2 seed up for grabs.
The only fly in the ointment would be if CBS was able to block the league from flexing the game.
Thoughts??
No…..
Bille win Mimi lose is for the division….it likely will be on Saturday night. If on Sunday , one team coukd rest starters if thry know win or lose they play each other again the following week in a 3-6/2-7 game.
winner take all games are the candidates. For example….
Rams -49ers. Rams E for WC. 49ers win for bye.
if KC lose bnext week and both DEN and Vegas W thrn the den/ vegas win get division if kc lose. Kc/ LA game could be on Sunday night
if JAX L, and hours/ Indy win thrn hou/ Indy winner gets division title or go home.
pitt/ balt could be a game where pitt must win for WC, they lose another team can get it while balt Ned’s to win for div/ bye
There are scenarios where team needs to win for playoffs, lose they are out.

Updated the playoff order but it’s based on when they exit the playoffs by weekend then sort within.
