  1. The only people statign Brady had a down year were the talking heads at the beginning of the year until he created some rhythm. Last year Brady had one of his best years playing with less talent, losing Hernendez Gronk, welker, Wilfork on defense, and they still went 12-4.

EJ looks atrocious this pre-season. The reports are from training camp he hasn't progressed, he's regressed. Inaccurate, staring down receivers, and terrible red zone efficiency.

I hope all of the people supporting EJ are right, but i doubt it. I was a wait and see all off-season as I expected him to come into camp now knowing the playbook, increase his accuracy and improve timing with WR, and so on. We've seen none of this occur. I hope again I'm wrong and others are right, but there is no evidence supporting this assertion.

If EJ stinks it up at Chicago, it will be interesting to see how many games before Orton is our starter.

  2. Just watched the Russell Wilson interview and god I love that guy. Can you believe we could have had him vs. TJ Graham? I don't want to be negative so not my purpose, just what a high character and high talent guy.

I love how he finishes every interview with "Go Hawks". What if that were "Go Bills" or "No one circles the Wagons". How cool would that be every interview?

Good for Seattle, and can't wait for this game. These teams are awesome and hope we get there someday.

Thank god the NFL is back.

  3. I have followed Bills football since their first season and listened to all the rhetoric, from Art Wander and teh Coach Chuck Dickerson to Shoop and teh Bulldog on WGR, but I have been astounded and disappointed by the over the patently biased, over the top views expressed by John Murphy on his radio show of late where callers cannot disagree with him about his "optimisitc" views on the Bills' chances, EJ's ability to succeed as QB, on Marrone and Whaley's tenure, etc. adn questioning why fans feel the way they do. Wake up and smell the coffee John, amaybe somebody spiked his with those Mollys! I know he is employed by the Bills and may be he feeling the heat if a new owner will pull the plug on his show, but for goodeness sake lighten up, callers can disagree and anyone who doesn't seem to agree with his rose colored glasses are ridiculed or discounted for their opinions. I used to think he was a level headed guy at least as a sportscaster but he seems very jaded of late. He also treis in ernest to be overly apologetic to his guests like the time when he tried to suggest that his "good buddy", guest Ron Jaws Jaworski back in early training camp, tried to sell us on Bon Jovi wanting was was "right for Buffalo" to keep the Bills in Buffalo, how dumb does he think the average fan is and why should we believe Jaws would tell us what Bon Jovi has in mind in the first place? Whenever a caller suggests that his opinion may be biased due to the fact he works for Bills' organization he profusely deneisthis, yet he and Chris Brown are in fact mouthpeices for the Bills whether or not they careto fess up.

  4. Fred might be the most over-rated player in the history of football...lee evans was a close 2nd. He has 1 season in his entire career where he just barely cracked 1000 yards. This is the NFL where EVERYBODY cracks 1000 yards. He is a decent player, but people act like he is this incredible player and human being. He has never made a pro bowl...as for his amazing leadership that I ALWAYS hear about, he has never even come close to carrying this team to the playoffs. We have been a horrendous offense for so long and he has been very mediocre for most of his career.

As for being nice...come on people. Are NFL players such rotten people that we actually need to praise a guy because he is nice? Lot's of guys are nice and good husbands...lol.

You evidently do not know much about football. This guys finds the tough yards. How many yards in a season does not state the whole story. He has produced first downs more than most and just knows howo to get forward when there is nothing, or can use his balance to make those 3-2's work. why do you think after initially using CJ so many times early last year why he moved to Fredex. He did it as he is a much more durable back.

As far as your 1000 yard conversation, do you remember he had 953 at 10 games just a couple of year sago before he broke his leg. That extrapolated out was a 1525 yard season which would have been only 15 yards behind MJD that year with a bad line and his hardest run defenses were in the beginning of the year.

FJ would be a stud on a talented team, but has never complained all of these years. He just goes out there and is a Bill. You may want to look at that before you post with your extensive experience on this board.

I apologize as I don't make things personal, but you are so off, I'm not happy with this type of post. You have a right to your opinion, even if I violently disagree with it!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW- I live in Tampa for the last 23 years after growing up in Buffalo.

  5. 5 years ago a run stuffer like Spikes would be a must guy to re-sign. Now that the league has become pass happy, his value diminishes considerably. The key thing to watch will be how much of a liability Spikes becomes when teams implement a gameplan that will look to exploit his coverage weakness.

Understood, but if Kiko was in the Wil, that would cover that up significantly. That's really what stinks about his injury not in missing him in the MLB spot, but what he would have done in weak side spot. He'd have a chance to look like a Derrick Brooks someday. He reminds me a lot of him last year given the years of me watching Brooks and his strengths. Brooks would have been terrible in the run stopping middle LB spot. That wasn't him. Dungy used him perfectly, and he had enormous skills which is why he is in the HOF (well deserved)

  6. I like the optimism.

If we beat Chicago, the media will all be about how the Bears are overrated. If we beat Miami, we'll be thought of as the second-best team in the division. If we beat San Diego, we'll be thought of as a legitimate wild card contender. If we beat New England...then they'll be on the bandwagon.

    It just takes wins.

You nailed it. i don't have a problem with everyone on the TV and radio stating we will have a 3-13 season. i don't. We sucked in the pre-season and we have not made the playoffs in 14 years. If you lived in texas, would you identify the Bills as an up and coming team. We won't get any respect unless we have a real winning record like you mentioned above up to the Patriots game. We beat the Pats and are on a roll, and we finally will get the nation looking at us.

The cahnces of this are minimal unless EJ does a 180, or he sucks so bad Orton comes in and looks like the second Alex Smith (of the last three years).

  7. Yeah, but he's funny how he puts you on the hot seat when you call and asks you the GM questions, "if you want to do this, here is the implication to the cap, who you have to give up, etc." He forces fans to think, but in a respectful way so people have to think through their wish list stuff, or what happens as an implication of their decisions.

You don't get that at all on most shows.

  8. Just like Marino, i used to hate the guy, but have come to respect him. He probably is the best QB in the league and possibly ever. he makes average WR look awesome, demands top performance, and works his butt off preparing for every opponent. I always want to beat him, and the Pats, but I respect winners.

I loved his answer, and fully expect we'll keep seeing him for awhile. So much of his game along with Manning is between the ears so there is no reason why these guys can't keep playing. Like Favre, it will take some monster hit where he suffers a tough injury for him to leave. If you were him, wouldn't you? He loves the game, enjoys everything about it, has an excellent line keeping him from getting hit, always challenges for a championship each year, and while he plays will continue to make a boat load of cash each year.

My hope is not that he retires, but we put a team on the field that can beat him at his best.

  9. I like the local guys but there is a benefit to someone who knows the NFL well, can be objective on the team. I like Pat Kirwan on Movin the Chains. He has an in depth knowledge of the team, can speak to their chances, and does not automatically take sides positively or negatively against the team like most national media.

Anyway, Sal is a good guy, but i like hearing these guys as he does not regurgitate the rest of the national media. I also like Polian's take as he has a soft spot for the Bills but is still objective.

  10. I just can't accept negative yet. I'm more apprehensive this year than last given the pre-season, but i'll roll with a 235 yard running day from our guys, the line figures it out, the front four make Cutler our b+@tch, and he fumbles one sack for a touchdown by the big man, Dareus (you have to love a big man rumblin, bumblin for a touchdown as he about passes out running for 30 yards).

27-24 Bills. Goes to the wire, with everything bumping our way with their mistakes and we still just barely win. A win though is a win and we gain some momentum after beating the Fish in week 2.

  11. ok, that was a long thread to read. Dr. trooth, just go away.

Nuff said. I'm sure there are Steelers threads you can go post. Now since they have gine 8-8 and couldn't run on us at all in the pre-season game, if that is any sign of the future, and now are out of the playoffs again this year and the next due to the Bengals emerging, are you going to leave them too?

anyway, god bless, good luck and please stay away from our website as your not wanted. I don't go to Patriots, Jets, or Fish websites.

  12. Should have made him sell the team. What the hell is $500,000 to him? What is the nfl going to do with his money?

$500,000 is the max per the CBA they can fine, and the suspension was in line with what they could do. They donate the money from fines. I wish they had the ability to really fine him with proceeds for the entire six games which would have been good in the neighborhood or $10,000,000, but they can't do it.

The wallet is the only way along with the shame of it to punish an owner. They can't take away competitive advantages like a draft pick given his offense is not for a competitive advantage.

  13. ADHD meds (not judging as one of my kids took for a legitimate diagnosis and really helped after years of us trying different alternative methods - He's now off after a couple of years where it helped) are basically a stimulant similar in nature to amphetamines. And no, i don't want a debate on ADD and meds conversation.

It wouldn't surprise me if he took a Concerta type product for focus, given some of the possible effects he's seen from concussion results. Who knows? Sorry to hear that as i like that guy, and was hoping he would keep helping Denver. i hate NE and have always rooted for Peyton. It's not like i'm delusional thinking we are going to go far in the playoffs. I'd just love for us to make progress. It would be great to see Denver kick the NFC team's ars in the SB this year proving they are not better than the AFC. Besides it would be fun to see Peyton retire going out on top.

  14. Part of me thinks he's been over coached, and is trying too hard to be perfect, and just can't pick it up at the pace needed to start. EJ reminds me of a guy who needs to sit behind a Brady and get 3 years like Mallett to develop into starting skills.

For EJ, he has until Orton learns the playbook and chemistry with his WR. I've watched Orton for quite some time, and he would be a short term upgrade over EJ. I'd love it if EJ had time to develop like they thought would happen with Kolb, and turn out to be our franchise guy. The game is too fast for him, and can't believe how much he stares down WR.

Man, i hope I'm wrong. I hope EJ comes out, plays loose, and has a great game in Chicago, then comes home to a very attainable win in Miami, and gains the confidence he needs. I really don't see that happening, but i want it to happen.

  15. I think he should be. He's our best receiver until Sammy takes that title. No disrespect to Williams abilities, I'm just big on Woods.

I understand that take as people like Woods from his play last year. Living in Tampa, I've watche Williams for four years, and in my humble opinion. I'd pick Williams over Woods. Williams can run routes as well as Woods, but he gets out of his brakes better, and he has great leaping ability. He's an excellent red zone threat. It doesn't matter though as there will be 3 WR on the field more times than not.

CJ as Kick Returner? He'll last until week 3 doing that....

We can afford it as we have 4 sound RB's. McKelvin is as good but he has been hurt and we need him more at CB.

  16. Once Orton starts carving up defenses, we will be 10-6 with a wildcard birth. GO BILLS!

    What's interesting is the following:

Does EJ progress and was just trying too hard in pre-season, and starts to play loose?

Does EJ play terribly in chicago, and Marrone realizes he'll lose his job if he doesn't make a change so Orton comes in against the Dolphins, plays well and the Orton era starts?

Line 2 happens, but Orton plays as bad as EJ as he has no chemistry with his WR and now Marrone doesn't know what to do.

Bottom line is it's almost impossible to predict given how the team has performed. I'm not a negative nancy, but this line and EJ have played so bad, it's hard to be optimistic with this team.

  17. I can only assess what i've seen in pre-season. What I saw was an inaccurate QB, staring down WR, and just looked bad. I also saw an O-Line that is not giving enough time maintaining a pocket, and only marginally decent at run blocking (which should be their strength given the size and power on the line). The WR were not given enough time to get open, but still were not getting open.

what looks exciting is the defense, and specifically run stoppage for once.

I'm not chicken little so the sky is not falling, but they better look like a different team this Sunday, or the Bears are going to crush us.

  18. For all the EJ haters out there, watch and learn. Can't throw deep, inaccurate, slow eyes... This video refutes all of it. What you have is an over coached rookie who needs to just play ball. Notice his first two games were some of his best?

I've been thinking the same point. It's what it looks like. I'm hopeful he just settles down and go out and play. I'd rather see him with the freedom to roll out when he wants to do so, don't worry about injuries, and if he gets hurt, we have Orton. Orton's not Brady, but he is one of the best backups in the league.

What I hope they taught him is to know when to slide, how to slide, and to not always try and get that extra yard at the risk of injury. Lastly, they had him more under center this pre-season, and he seemed to play better in the gun.

I haven't given up on him, but if they keep coaching this way, and he keeps playing tentative, it's going to be a long first month of the season.
