  1. No we haven't!! This team has been bad for 14 years!! Until they start winning games Kiko & Kirk Morrison are the same in my book. I am so sick of hearing how talented they are. They have lost for 14 years! Fire everyone!! Do you really believe that new people, selecting new talent playing against different opponents will really change anything?? The Bills were bad a decade ago so I am sure that they will be bad now. :)

Thanks Captain Optimism. Here's an idea. Go root for another team. We've all suffered through the same losing seasons, but to be so negative every summer just is depressing. For now, I believe we are in the right direction.

Why would you ever hate a team, coaching, front office, and still pay such close attention to them. It makes no sense.

  2. With whom exactly?

Freeman was beyond terrible last year, for two different teams. Christian Ponder is better than Freeman. So is Curtis Painter. Put that in perspective

Freeman was bad last year in Tampa under OC, Mike Sullivan. It was the wrong scheme for this team. Sullivan was a Giants guy who relies on a dominant offensive line, and move the ball in big chunks with deep passes. The previous OC was Greg Olsen. He is now at the Raiders, with more of a West Coast offensive. Freeman was very successful in this system with low turnovers, and a decent TD / INT percentages.

The one game for the Vikings is not fair to him. He was there less than 10 days, and put in far too early and Frasier should be blamed for that one as he was desperate to save his job. I'm not an apologist for Freeman, but I live here in Tampa and watched some promising talent in Freeman. Now on the opposite side Schiano rode Freeman like a donkey, and his head was rattled. I don't know if he can gain his confidence back after losing it. It's too bad as he is without a doubt better than Tuel, and still young. I like Thad so I would love to bring Freeman in at the minimum. If he gets his head on straight, and has half a season to develop, could be very effective in Hackett's scheme. That would be a nice stable of QB's, and Marrone has nothing to worry about placing Tuel on the PS. Trust me Doug, after watching Tuel in the KC game and others, how he single handedly lost that game, no one is picking him up. It's too bad as I believe Hackett called a perfect game, but he wouldn't control the crappy game Tuel played.

Bottom line is pick him up.

  3. Joel has been running the team since 2006. The other brothers each have different roles in the franchise. There is no plan to sell the team. Malcom had a stroke years ago and has been in a wheelchair for a few years.

He hasn't gone to games, or had any other involvement in the team. No active players have even met him. This is juxtaposed to him having close relationships with the older guys like Sapp, Brooks, Barber, etc.

He was a great owner for his first 6 years. The knock on him was he put tons of money and investments into the team until they won the SB in 2002. He then bought Manchester United, the richest franchise in the world of any sport. Afterwards, Tampa fans were mad at the Glazers as they went vastly under the cap, and hired questionable coaches after they fired Gruden.

The knock on Gruden is he was in a pissing contest with Rich McKay, and they fired McKay. McKay was an excellent GM, comparable to Polian. Bruce Allen was weak and a mouthpiece for Gruden. He kept picking up old guys to win now that we're past their prime. He went 11-5, then 5-11 for a few years. When fired, they made bad choices.

Now they are on track with a good GM, and excellent coaching staff.

The reason I know this is I live in Tampa and they are my second favorite team. The Glazers are a good ownership family and now that they have to spend 88% to the cap due to the new CBA, they are trying to win again. I believe they will make the playoffs this year.

  4. 300, 600, 1,200 is hardly stellar. Even the 900+ yards he got last year is miserable. You can look at YPC all you want. But it doesn't mean anything if your not putting up solid yards in the end. Even 1,200 yards is barely a good season. Break that up into yards per game and tell me if that's really good. Think about it in fantasy standards if you think that'll help. But CJ has produced the following averaged per game.

2010: 17.69 yards per game with 0 TDs

2011: 35.06 yards per game with .25 TDs

2012: 77.75 yards per game with .38 TDs

2013: 58.31 yards per game with .13 TDs

Hardly stellar. If you had that in a fantasy back, he would be your 3rd or 4th option. Solid backs produce no matter what offense they are in. No matter who they're offensive coordinators are.

This is deceiving as FJ also had over 900 yards. I believe this thread should be more on FJ. He is patient, hits the hole well, always falls forward, and most importantly has great balance. Under this massive line, watch out for FJ to have a breakout season. Spiller will only have a good year if he can bounce out in the spread offense, or with pitches. I disagree our line is too big, and not athletic enough to get him on the outside. Just look at the tape of last year how quick Glenn moves for a big man.

Also, kuandjio is young and if I remember correctly had a decent 40 time for a tackle. Our two new RB's and FJ will be used more up the middle.

  5. I'll be surprised if TJ isn't cut/traded.

You can't trade someone who stinks. Lead hands.

Watkins will turn out to be awesome in time, but may need to get used to the NFL in speed, size, etc. I'm guessing Mike Williams will have a breakout year for us. I've watched him for 4 years, and he will drive us down the field.

As far as catches, I'm betting Woods.

  6. We improved this off season, and don't underestimate the additional coaches brought in to help this young team. I see EJ improving this year, but I don't expect him to be Aaron Rodgers. We'll win on defense, a prominent running game with a better line, and a serviceable passing game.

If we can just get to 15th in passing, #1 in the run, and a top 5 defense, that would be my preference.

  7. I'm guessing you only get to preview 10 free stories per month on the Buffalo News, and then you have to subscribe. I solved it by using my laptop, and my I-Pad to review 20 stories. I hope that helps.

The jury is out for me on Trump. He's a bloviating, but a sharp business man. I don't see him moving the team. The TV revenue that will be increasing dramatically assures any owner of making good money in the neighborhood of 30-40 mil. Now and increasing in two years. You can be assured this TR Night experiment with CBS this year will go out to bid, and next year will be on one of the four major networks for the entire season.

Trump will love the spotlight of being an NFL owner, but I don't see him in the day to day operations. My guess is this is just publicity and he has no sincere interest in actually putting up a competitive bid.

  8.

In the nightmare scenario that Fred were to become a Boston Patriot, Hoodie would save him for December and unleash a well rested Fred for the end of season and Playoffs.

Ok, I just threw up in my mouth on that thought. It's a good point though given Belicheck is very comfortable picking up people for a year at the end of their career.

  9.

I agree with 98% of this. Jackson is the best RB on the Bills and the Captain of that offense. He literally won the game against Carolina last year by not catching a 2 yard pass to him by EJ which would have ran about 15 seconds off the clock if not more. But what worries me is the Goal line situation. Tuel should have never passed on third down, but Fred couldn't punch it in from the 1 yard line twice. Fred is my favorite player, I don't see him slowing down, his intelligence for the game is above most, but he struggles on the goal line IMO. Cheers

Which is why we picked up Dixon in the off season.

  10. I agree. Schumer can make a lot of noise with senate inquiries on various issues with the NFL including the concussion issues, the anti- trust, the fact the NFL is stipulated as a non-profit, and so on.

The nightmare for me is an owner buys the team, NYS does not build a stadium claiming they have no money, but simply upgrades the Ralph, and the new owner sits and waits 10 years and sells it to another owner making a ton of money as the TV money is climbing rapidly, and we lose the Bills in 2023.

That is why NYS has to build a stadium. A new stadium will be linked to a 30 year iron clad lease. Then we will have our beloved Bills for the rest of my life.

How many upstate tax dollars have paid for infrastructure improvements in NYC? I don't live there anymore, but just remember my dad my whole life complaining how his tax dollars get funneled to downstate. It's time we get that billion dollar stadium, then a few hundred more million offer 10 years improving the infrastructure of Niagara Falls.

  11. Lipstick on a pig. I have great memories from 80's and 90's but go to any modern stadium and you won't want to watch the Bills play a home game. Bathrooms are disgusting. There is no room to walk. Food is average. Even in the Jim Kelly club the beef on weck was cold. Very disappointing. Beer selection could be better.

Guys please go to a new venue and see what you are missing. Tear down the Ralph. Build a 64,000 seat stadium on the waterfront and raise the ticket prices 25%. Add high quality food and beverage items. I'm not saying every other stadium is better but Seattle and Arizona offered much better experiences. I'm going to Bears-Bills but I don't expect it will be much better than RW.

Worst stadium ever though was Metrodome. The concourses could not have allowed more than 5 people side by side. Actually was a bit scary.

I love the tradition of the Ralph, but these comments are correct. I flew up with the boys for the home opener from FL, and I was reminded of how bad the food, and old the stadium has become. I had a great time, and loved the people, but compared to going to games in other stadiums, Buffalonians probably just don't know what they are missing. I love my Bills, and if you read the article this morning about the lack of interest in moving to LA. One point made is Ohio paid for all of their major stadiums since 1994. The Bengals, Browns, and so on.

  12. A bunch of bleeding heart liberals. Almost every Seator was a democrat basically pandering to one of their demographics. I hope Snyder sticks to his guns and says "NO"?

Bruce Allen prepared a response indicating when the name was founded there were some Indian Nations consulted, and they came up with the logo and name as a matter of pride and unity amongst all Indian Tribes. I have yet to hear one leader of any of the Indian Nations come out in protest. To the contrary, I've heard enough tribal leader who have jumped on NFL radio as guests, and absolutely do not want the name changed. The reasoning was interesting as they said so much of the Indian culture is fading away from the mainstream and it concerns them.

They don't want names like the Redskins, Chiefs, Seminoles, etc going away.

  13.

This. I've never seen a QB do more with less. I'm an avid fantasy football player -- That's the only way I knew the names of New England's receivers last year. The casual NFL fan would struggle to name one (Amendola, Edelman, Thompkins and Dobson are hardly household names). With Gronk out most of the year and the losses of Welker and Hernandez -- It's sickening what the Pats were able accomplish. Few athletes in professional sports are able to make everybody around them better by simply being present. Michael Jordan did it. So does Brady, much as it pains me to write it. I just don't see evidence of a decline yet.

    Agreed.

  14.

You forgot how Buffalo got its name.

Our name comes from an Indian name for the area. I'm not going to spell it right so imagine this phonetically, Boofalo, meaning beautiful place. That was the origin of the name. He was absolutely right. The city has nothing to do with Bisons.

  15. i'm rooting for him to fail and fail badly. then i will come back on this board and proudly proclaim "i told you so!", because that's really all i care about -- being right on the internet. it will be a grand moment and you will all be embarrassed and ashamed by your lack of football knowledge.

also, the bills will go 18-34 in the year 2057 (the season will be year round by then). you heard it here first.

That was funny. How large is the roster? 150 players? 3 starting QB's?

The funny thing is the NFL would be a 100 Zillion dollar business and Goodell would still be looking for different ways to grow revenue.

  16. Split the difference with a retractable dome and no matter his state of the art, we'll never get a SB unless maybe we build it in Niagara Falls. Cuomo dumps not only money for the stadium, but improves the roads and infrastructure.

The closer to the Canadian side the better so we attract the fans who want attractions.

In Tampa we always move the Gasparila parade to the week of the SB If we host it. Gasparilla is a parade that celebrates when the Pirate Jose Gaspar invaded Tampa. Basically it's 500,000 people come watch the hundreds of boats who come in and invade Bayshore. There are parties everywhere and open container is lifted. It always attracts the SB fans coming in for the game.

buffalo or Niagara Falls would need to put some type of winter activities as getting this game is not just in the game. The city has to create an experience to get the event.

Oh, by the way we'd have to build more sky boxes and club seating, as well as make it like other stadiums in the 65,000 sizeso they sell out more, etc.

The seat cost will go up.
