  1. Who? More detail please. From which teams, why, what is their stats? Give us something. For me I'd love Revis for $9 mil if we could draft a solid QB. At least our defense would be punshing. I just came off NFL Radio with Bill Polian, and he raved about Marrone, and Pettine. He stated we would end up in more 3-4 than 4-3 schemes this year with indicating Dareus is much better suited for NT in a 3-4.

Tht actually wouldn't be bad with Anderson and Williams as olb, and K. Williams and Dareus on the line with maybe Carrington as the other DE. Polian also indicated we need another cover cb to make pettine's scheme work.

  2. Joe the 6 [ack is right. This is the only way they get something for him, and I bet it will be a #2, and a second #2 the following draft if he plays 1ll 16 games, or something like that. We seem to have the cap room once we dump some dead weight. This would have a large impact on our defense as we can focus on a stud LB in the draft after a QB. We can also buy a QB on the market. They key is we may then need to wait on a WR as we would get too close on the cap to get a Smith or Flynn, and Revis, and a D. Bowe. The WR would probably have to wait or get a hit later in the draft.

It' my understanding there is some talent in the draft at CB and WR so we may have no interest in Revis as he'll demand 9 mil a year.

  3. He'll get cut. The above post about picking up a QB in free agency and one in draft will happen. Madrone just watched a Bills coach get fired for hiring poorly on defense in coaching and latching his horse to Fitz. You get one shot when your new to clean up your team. Matrons hired Petine. That should tell you he is paying attn to previous mistakes.

It was Wanny not talent that was the demise for our defense. We need more talent, but we were so bad due to very poor scheming.

  4. I agree with Fixxer. Keep Wilson for depth but renegotiate his contract like they did with McGee last year as he is getting older so will have to take a pay cut. The others are gonners. I'd still draft a QB in the 2nd round, and pick up Alex Smith. Spencer Johnson can go into the night. Kelsey's old and hurt as well as McGee. Fitz may be a nice guy, but he was horrible last year. He was 32 out of 32 QB's last year for passes longer than 15 years.

  5. I hate the Pats as all of you, but they are as dominant as Green Bay in the 60's, Steelers in the 70's, and so on. What i can tell you is it was so sweet watching the Ravens pound them again like they did a couple of years ago in the wildcard game. I just wished Sissy Brady was sacled more. Is it just me, but doesn't he grow to be a bigger panzy with each year? He just avoids hits like I've never seen any other QB. Brees is almost his age, and takes more shots than him. Even Manning with his neck seems to go for it every once in awhile.

  6. pick up Alex Smith in free agency, and draft Nassib in the second round. You can then use your first round pick on either a top flight WR, or, CB (pettine's defense relies on cover corners and we only have one), or LB. We need all three so you can choose best on board.

Smith was excellent his last 1.5 years and just needs consistency. Pick up of these three positions at least two solid free agents like D. Bowe, and don't go old in free agency. I'm not sure if seller is worth it at his age unless you are just using him for maybe two years as his speed will slow down. What he does better than anyone is quickness in change of direction. I'm ok with if we do it a s a short term fix.

  7. Agreed on Driver. He's already stated he wants to retire a packer. Jennings is 29, and was paid 3.5 million this year, running a 4.48 in the 40. Bowe is 28, was paid 9.5 million, and ran a 4.52 in the 40. I like them both, but unless you can get value like Tampa did with Jackson who ended up I think 4th in the league, it's not going to be worth the 9-10 million they'll demand. I agree with several of you that having a real QB and an impact WR will make SJ, SC, And our rb look better.

  8. In the last two seasons when he finally had continuity in coaching responded with a very high winning record. He's not as bad as people on this post keep stating. He beat the Saints in the playlets last year. I agree with the notion of picking h.I'm up, and drafting a QB as well in the second round. We also need at least two free agents in any one of the following categories, WR,TE,LB,CB. We can get the rest in the draft. If we deliver on these five positions, we can move into the playoff conversation. My problem is I just can't get excited about this team. We all know what is needed, but they never do it.

  9. Seattle is the one team that can beat the 9 ers. I don't care either way, but the hawks are really fun to watch. I was really hoping for a Brady manning showdown as it may be the last one. Now I'm a texans fan tomorrow.

Good times. Maybe one of these days our boys will be there.

  10. With 4 yrs on the jets, two years as an OC for the Saints, and three years turning a team around at SU, I like the pic. We were never getting a Gruden to come here. Hiring a DC who has run a consistent top 10 defense is smart. We just now know we're picking up LB, CB, and a QB in free agency or draft.

  11. Monte could do a lot with our front four. He needs athletic lb, and good cover cb's to make it work. The problem with Monte though is he relies on fast athletic lb's, and good scheme. We have been building bigger under Nix for a couple of years so we'd be moving back again. I'm not sure if Marone is as adjustable as reported if he will want to take this talent back to another scheme with other needed players. That would be a blow up.

As an aside, I've lived in Tampa for a very long time, and absolutely loved the guy. He was one of the main reasons the Bucs won a Superbowl. He had a top 10 defense for almost a decade. They've never come back to form since his exit.

  12. If it happens, I like it. Smith's stas are skewed having several bad coaches and different coordinators. When having a running game, and a line which we have he played very well his last two years. Did you see how well he played against new orleans and even the giants in the playlets last year.

As far as whiz, he was a winning coach with a QB in Warner and not so much without one. I don't know if I'm sold on him.

  13. The hard part when your pulling the strings is you can't make decisions on moving away from someone, but moving towards someone and if they are not the guy, you pass. Ask anyone in high end management. We all know we have to move away from Fitz, but someone implying Tannehill, or a couple others on thisthread is silly. I agree with the post on making the mistake on Dalton. He was in a pro style offense for four years and was excellent.

Our problem is there is no one who looks like a franchise QB in the draft. This means this year when we go 5/11 as we won't even be able to beat the Jets, is we'll have to see if Alex Smith, or the others is a possibility.

  14. The Simple Answer is as stated that in large parts of the country like the south and midwest, college football is king. With the SEC Championships, and others the week after Thanksgiving, the networks won't take anything away from it.

I agree possibly the second week in December through Christmas would be nice to have football, but you know the networks won't do what they did in the early 90's and have them in the day, which is what I liked. They'll do that 3:30 and 7:30 pm games. I prefer the 1 and 4 pm as you can make a whole day of it with friends.

  15. My Dad who worked for the Buffalo News for 44 years was just telling me of a story in the 90's where he was catching up with Larry Felser, a buddy of his and saw Mr. Wilson leaving and they struck up a conversation. They walked up the road towards M&T Bank together, and was such a nice man. He stated he's met him several times from the News and was always cordial, and down to earth with the employees, etc.

I'm not sure on him acting like JJ, but he has meddled in years past too much when he should have acted more like the Mara, or Rooney family. Now he is pretty hands off from what i can see. I just hate this death watch limbo thing as it is keeping talent especially in the coaching arena away from our team.

  16. Guys:

I just read Jerry Sullivan's article and had a night to sleep on it. I'm done! I've enjoyed talking with all of you this past year, getting excited, trying to keep composure this year, and you have to know when to "walk away from the poker table when it's not your night". I can't keep reading and watching Chan and Fitz. I'll start reading and watching maybe next year at free agency, and the draft. Hopefully with a new coach and QB.

The sad thing is I just can't see a solid coach coming to Buffalo with the uncertainty around the franchise. So take care, everyone have a Merry Christmas and I'm going to watch some other teams or go do something with the family on Sundays.
