  1. We're not. You didn;t hear. The sky is falling! DOOMED. AARRGGGHH.

Ok just kidding, but all of these threads are getting over the top. I was hoping for a free agent acquisition, but doesn't look like it yet. There are a few decent receivers in the draft. No Calvin Johnson's, but decent WR. Certainly better than the reach we made last year with Graham.

  2. I agree. I still contend he's playing money ball so he's going to get role players for their system. It doesn;t mean we'll be good, but I'm willing to give him a try. If Chan and Fitz were here I'd be much more upset. I bet he takes a QB this year and next year.

  3. This is what I expected after reading once the coaching move was settled they were going to emply money ball mentality. They don't hve enough money to buy the next Super Mario, and they know they have too many holes. So they come up with a free agency board for role players that fills holes, and manage their cap well given the Fitz bumbling contract. They rely on a cheap QB from the draft and spend wisely on guys like Manny Lawson. They are realying on a solid draft this year to be competitive.

  4. I agree with the pet tine comment as Wanny was the worst. We'll be better from scheme alone. As far as Fitz, what can you do. If you keep him it's 10.45 mil against the cap. You dump him and it's 10 mil against the cap. He won't restructure as he knows he has the Bills by the cahones. Way to go Boss Hog for creating that contract.

There is a misunderstanding we save 3 mil if we cut him today. That's not the case. we're stuck and he knows it so he won't restructure this year. He'll keep the money, and be the highest paid backup next year (2014) for 4 mil with a contender with a mobile QB as they get hurt more.

  5. Did anyone see the scene from Happy Gilmore " that is the single dumbest thing I've ever heard and this room, etc. I wish I knew how to attach these clips or would have thrown in there. Fergy, I love the Damon clip.

To who started this thread, it's cut and dry and nothing you can do in court other than make an ass of yourself. You have to be three years out of high school, and cannot break it.

We all like Manziel, but there will be 4 excellent QB opportunities next year so it makes sense to take bpa at #8 and a QB in the second round. Then next year we pull a redskins deal (we hope we're not that bad to get it on our own) and give picks away for a star. If we pick up a couple of modest free agents who understand pet tine's scheme, this year and score in the third as well, we could have a solid team in two years.

  6. I heard from a guy the mullet is coming back. hehe.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Like all of you I have no idea with what we are going to do. Byrd is safe though and the last information I read was we have 18.5 mil in cap space. Sonsidering we need 5.5 mil for the draft, that leaves us 13 mil unless Fitzy restructures. He won;t as there is nothing in it for him. He counts 10.5 mil vs. 10 mil if he is gone so the Bills are stuck with him. I see us getting a couple of later free agents cheaper and one decent free agent this week. That means we can spend around 7 mil. That is what I'd love to hear from you guys what we might target.

    Thanks.

  7. Does a couple of guys on our board need an "NI from Kindergarten on being nice to each other".

This is a silly conversation. SJ is getting older and the least concern the Bills have is bringing in a 29 yr old RB. We need a QB, TE, WR, LB x 2, CB. Cmon. No insults just let's move on. SJ is a cool guy, but not for Buffalo.

  8. Have you guys ever seen the DEADLIEST CATCH, etc.? There are jobs with inherent risks. If you don't want the job, than you can work in the 5 or 6 figure like most of us, vs the 7 figures for a few years.

I know Goodell is trying to protect the guys out of fear fo the ramifications of the sport, but what is crazy is someone dying of a hit will be a tragedy, and covered by the news for two weeks. Not that it is ok as it would be absolutely horrible, but guess what will happen? NOTHING!

There will still be games the next week and there will still be the attendance on the field, as well as direct tv. The only risk is the liability to the league, and team. He's doing the smart thing from a corporate perspective, but it won't affect popularity at all. Did it after Kevin Everett? No, and we were all scared about him walking. Thank god he is ok now to some degree.

  9. I agree with mango and no name. My guess is if we get just one good cover cb, and Pettine can install due to having the parts (you know they are going to pick up 1-2 cheaper LB's in free agency, not the expensive guys) and the defense will be significantly better. Our biggest problem on defense wasn't talent as much as poor coaching and scheme. I can't wait to see how we'll do with an attacking defense.

As far as Nix, he's a mixed bag. Even Polian whirred his last few years at Indy and I have always said he was our most regrettable Loss in the last 25 years. We know Nix missed on QB and I don't buy his argument he wanted to build a team around the QB first. I do like how he built a much more physical presence on both defense and offensive lines. He has to hit on this draft and I'm fine with his tenure. Remember we sucked eggs for thirteen years due to terrible front office decisions from coaching, to letting free agents go, to free agency acquisition, to the draft all before Nix. He was cleaning up probably the least talented team in the NFL.

Now get us a damn QB, CB, WR, and TE and all will be forgiven Buddy!

  10. So if we get Fitz down to $3 mil, Byrd is 6 from the tag, and Levitre gets a long term deal, but maybe ony $6 mil this year, we're looking at possibly $18 mil of cap space, and we need from what I read prior $5.4 mil for our draft picks. That means approximately, $12.6 mil or so. Considering we buy some cheap talent, we could still afford one decent early signing in free agency at around $7 mil. Does that sound right from our accounting guys on the board, or please let me know when you look at all of these variables, what is our money left to spend.

  11. And that is why both of these teams will continue to be good for years to come. They first ahve excellent front offices, then excellent coaches, and oh by the way fantastic QB's. And we are......

We have to heop and pray we have made better front office decisions, coaching, and now find a QB. We're wasting our time until this is done.

  12. This would be silly and we lose. We need value as much as possible for each pick taking bpa each year. Forget about need as was posted in another thread, i.e. Troup (remember we couldv'e had Gronkowski). I have cautious optimism for Marrone and Whaley as they seem to be making very smart moves so far with who was cut. We'll see what happens in free agency. I'd be surprised if we let Levitre go as he the most durable and consistent lineman we have on the team. I read in another thread about pass rush, and this was more of a function of a defensive coordinator stuck in the 80's. Pettine will get a lot more out of our guys, but he needs a cover corner to make it work. This is as important if not more important than LB's. I know our lb's suck, but Pettine's scheme relies on excellent corners to amke it work.

  13. He'll get his contract restructured. He'll do it b/c the leverage the Bills have is we can cut you to be a back up, or you take a haircut and you can compete for the starting position. If you achieve so many wins we'll incentivize your contract. Face it Fitz, you won't anywhere in this league with your record, but with us you'll compete against a rookie, and TJ. There is a good chance you can groom a roookie if you play well, and have a couple of years as a starter and rehab your career.

Sound like what they are saying. The Bills get more cap they can spend on one of their needs in free agency, and Fitz gets one last chance to compete for the starting position.

  14. I'm such a patsy as I really am excited. Even if they resign Levitre Byrd, how do they address so many needs to be competitive? We need 1-2 LBs, a CB, a QB, a WR, and a TE. I wish we would accept we're in a build, buy one free agent who is young, cut Fitz to save the money along with Kelsey, and use the draft to pick up these needs. We can get a QB late as a back up, and we infuse a ton of talent on the team if we hit on the first three rounds. We accept TJ for QB, and go for a franchise guy next year. The only QB maybe who is worth it this year is Tyler Wilson.

I just would rather do what San Fran did and keep picking the best available guy each year. One of the reasons Harbaugh turned the program around is he had a very talented team when he walked in and look what happens with excellent coaching.
