This article has a flair for the obvious. The Bills just needed insurance. I've not heard or read where anyone thinks Kolb is the answer. We're still drafting a QB, and we may even next year. As far as a back up, we could do worse than Kolb.
-
One of the toughest QB's we had including Kelly and Kemp. I wish we had him now. He had no team around him many of those years. Look what he did when he had Joe Cribbs for a RB in 1980. We won the AFC East.
-
Kolb is not the long term answer but better than Fitz. Fitz's mechanics were so bad he just could not make the tough throws. As to Kolb, his horrible line made him look terrible. I'm not saying he's our franchise QB, but he's good for 8 games while the rookie learns the game. I'm still hopeful we grab an athletic mobile type QB for the pistol with Spiller. I doubt Geno Smith falls to us at 8, so the next best is EJ Manuel.
Go Bills!

Band-Aid, and again, he's OLD.
-
We won't get him as we're not going for a guard that high. My bet is a CB to book end Gilmore, then QB in round 2, and 3-6 will be a WR, OG, and LB.
-
CB, ILB, SS, QB, WR, WR, TE, OG. So rather than these spots, you want another RB? Arguably one of our strongest squads. Hey, i'd like to be taller, smarter, better looking, but it's not in the cards.
-
My guess is we go for Milliner or Trufant at CB first although Mel Kiper says were going to take the OG Jonathan Cooper. I can't see us going with a guard first, but we'll see. No one is going to help us trade down. I think CB as Pettine's defense relies on awesome CB's. His history is to have serviceable ILB's, an excellent pass rush, and great cover corners. You need someone opposite Gilmore and it's not McKelvin.
Then we go for a QB in the second round. I'm hoping for Manuel. Outside of Geno Smith, there might not be another QB taken in the first round, so several options available in round two.
-
I just looked up his stats and he is 6'5 , 245 lbs. With an avg yards per catch of 13.8, and 16.8 the last two years. What was his 40 time in the combine?

I heard WANG is available. You can't have enough Wangs.

I love a guy who was drafted as a tight end and is well coached and converted to a left tackle, and somehow thinks we're wrong. We should have offered more money, but he was ridiculous in how he handled the situation. As far as the best left tackle, hey Jason have you heard of a guy named Joe Thomas. And oh by the way, he keeps his mouth shut.

Kolb can throw past 8 yards in the NFL. So he's better than Fitz pick. He's not the long term solution, but a solution for this year. I hoep he does well as it would be a great problem to have with him coming off a great year and a draft sitting and learning.
If he doesn't do well, we cut him next year. simple. No one thinks even on this board we're going to the playoffs anyway. For those that stated "well, we'll win just enough games to not get a good draft next year", I'll take the 9 wins if we could get them. As far as next year, we can throw the farm at another tema to move up that is in worse shape than us as Washington did last year.
We're in it to win.

Brainiac is right. EJ Manuel has the most upside with a pistol offense and having plyed several years in a pro style offense. With Spiller, it should work well. Kolb can make much better throws deep to WR than Fitz. fitz had guys wide open so many times at 15+ yds and couldn't do it with accuracy. Pick up Manuel at 8 or take your chances he's still there in the second round.
Bottom line is we rebuilding AGAIN!
If I were Ralph, I'd say what the hell is the front office doing? But after 13 years, who knows. This was our biggest problem. We should have given control to Polian years ago and we would have continued to compete. Ralph blew it and he's been payign for it for almost two decades. And so have we!

NFL GM's never plan for two drafts away as too much can happen. Too many what if's. That said, not a bad board. The opposite philosophy of taking a QB in the second or first has less risk with the new salary cap for rookies. Now you can take a chance on a QB adn not over spend as you can do it again next year. Between the two you hope to get one frnachise guy and a qulaity back up. Kolb and TJ are stop gaps.
-
I like several people ran down the hall with my hair on fire, but agree with a bunch of you. As long as we get EJ Manuel at #8 as geno smith will be gone. I can see Manuel at some point in the season getting his shot using in the read option package. Our line is better than Arizona, and one of the rasons Spiller had so many really big runs. I'd love an athletic QB who could work in tandem with spiller.
Kolb should play better than in Arizona as he'll have a little more time, and a much better run game. As the previous guy just posted, Kolb is a stop gap to help a rookie.
-
My guess is Pettine will get him in shape, and he will be much more penetraing. He can't be as overweight this year, and with better scheming will create an impact. I have high hopes for Pettine's defense.

I'm not concerned with his off the field antics. Look at Talib once he made it to NE. As far as his achilles, I still think it is a risk reward issue, and if we make it an incentive laden contract and an easy out for us, then go for it. We can basically tell him if he plays 13 or more games next year, it doubles his contract, etc. The contract can go up in years 2, and 3 if he continues to play a certain amt of games.
This really helps us as we can draft a decent WR, and our rookie QB now has three targets along with spiller for the pistol option. The more I think of it with our line, and the speed of spiller, we would really benefit from an athletic fast QB, like Manuel. Because I believe Geno Smith will be gone, I want Manuel. The pistol with Spiller, and Steveie who gets out of his brakes fast, will turn into some offense. Think of it guys. Spiller and EJ in the shotgun, a healthy Fred Davis as an outlet, SJ juking the likes of Revis, and we have an offense. God that would be fun.
On defense, we have Pettine's scheming with our front line punishing Brady early and often. We need a find for a CB opposite Gilmore. Then we have a team. I know it's a fantasy guys, but a guy can dream. I'm so sick of watching us lose as all of you are that I have to have hope. It's funny I live in Tampa so I'm so excited to get Revis as well down here becuase first it will really help my NFC team, and second, it will tank even more the Jests, and Tubby. Nothing like watching them implode even more this year, and us take on the Patsies. Lastly, Miami is going to get better this year so we'd better too.

The posts that make the most sense here is not just Nix missing on the QB, but it's the poor choices while here. No need to keep writing about it, but I'll be happy when he retires. Whaley comes from an excellent drafting team in the Steelers so I just hope he has a vision similar to what the Steelers have done over the years.
-
He'd have to be cheap with incentives to give him more money for the longer deal. I'd take a chance if we can dump him in one year if it doesn't work. I like the effort on Merriman, but it was a bad contract. He never earned that money and too much guaranteed.

Denver for the rematch from last year, or possibly NE. I'd bet on Denver.

Dibs- I wish more people could post this type of factual information, and appreciate having a better understanding of the cap situation. If you listen to guys like Polian and Kirwan, they'll repeatedly say free agency is very tricky and you almost always over pay in the first two weeks for value. Just because someone was good in another system, does not necessarily mean it transfer in the new team.
I like the idea of securing a couple of role players if we can afford it and maintain our talent. The draft is so much cheaper now due to the rookie salary cap situation.
I was disappointed we lost Rinehart. As far as the maroon who encouraged us to lose Kyle Williams (our best defensive lineman), I don't understand that at all.
Let's pray we hit on at least four guys in this draft, and get Mario to restructure next year as we can't afford to lose this upcoming free agents.

Well said JR. BPAand stop trying to fix the problems in two years. You can't short change success. Gice the right people time and we will win.

As much as I would love Bethlehem, the smart move is is East adn North so you pull from Rochester and Candada. Think in terms of a business guys, not fans. If you want to keep the team on an economy that is horrible, and cannot compete with the rest of the country, you place here, pull from both markets, and not complain about the Toronto game. This means we keep our team for a long long time. Otherwise you can be unhappy, and root for the LA Bills.
-
Since we keep reaching on need over the last decade, what do you think?
-
Don't forget our buddy Pacman, and Dez. oh wait, Big Ben, Bowers from Tampa (Gun), and Talib. If we need a WR, Burress.
Kyle Moore is a Bear.

Too bad. we also had not such great performances against the run due to poor DT play, poor LB play, horrible coaching. Should I go on. Moore could have been a nice depth back up. We are getting so thin at several positions.
This is the reason the Steelers have been so good for so long. They draft well, they hold onto their talent, and maintain depth. We can't maintain a starting line up forgetting a decent back up crowd on the team. I wish him well at Da Bears!
