ESPN reporting this morning SAINTS MOVE

Buffalo Bills vs. New Orleans Saints Aussie's back yard, Oct. 2, 2005 -
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has approved the forced removal of New Orleans residents today, per CNN. If you ask me, this, among other things that have happened, has come a couple of days too late. I was watching a "live rescue" attempt last night on MSNBC. Turns out, after all the effort of the USCG crew, he decided to stay...all that time wasted, effort expended, risk taken...now they have to go back there and force him. This could get interesting. We've seen forced evacuations before (just recently, in fact), but I know I've never seen one done in several feet of water. A person who wanted to be trouble could cause major problems to air/boat crews trying to forcibly remove them...it's not like they can just drag them down the street...This could be interesting. This is necessary, but it's going to be rough on the rescue crews...

Is Dorenbos gone? Yes he is...

I thought with a board dedicated to newbies we'd provide them with some (mis)-information to get them started (and to keep certain questions from coming up every week). We'll start by defining some of the frequently used terms around here... Oh, and BTW, I'll try to get corrections up here and get a mod to delete posts (or you can PM me with corrections) Days of the Week MOM- Moan on Monday. All the whining that happens after a game (yes, even after victories). SUW - Silly Unfocused Wednesday - by mid-week we get waaaaay off-topic, even during the season. FAT - Free Advice Thursday - Started by Nick In Rochester, taken over by Alaska Darin, it's a thread that is started by one of the afore-mentioned gentlemen whose intent is to provide answers to those seeking advice. Sort of like Dear Abby with random answers. Unfortunately, Darin has apparently been on an extended seal-clubbing expedition as of late and as such has not been around for FAT the last few weeks. Also NVT - Nasty, Vicious Thursday. By this point in the week we are typically ready to kill each other as we have completely disected the prior game and anticipate the next one. (Thanks JÂy RÛßeÒ, aka Jay Rosen) [ What are the other days? I forgot ] Retatta - An exquisite dish that is best described here. WNYTBDGPS - The Western New York Two Bills Drive Garbage Plate Society. A group of Wallers who get together for lunch at the Main Street Nick Tahou's on Fridays at noon, usually about once a month. Hot Pockets - Meant to denote those with a short attention span, said attention span being about the same amount of time it takes to make a Hot Pocket. See also, DING! LAMP - Look At Me Post. A topic that is started that serves no other means than to draw attention to yourself. Usually carrying a negative connotation (like when someone decides that, instead of adding an opinion to an already ongoing thread he/she starts another thread) but they aren't always so (a post to celebrate an accomplishment).

Interesting article from 2003

Fake-Fat-Sunny didn't want to get too long-winded, especially when I'm home dealing with water problems of my own today, on both input (Pipe running in from well leaks) and output (effluent pump for my septic system died). Trust me, compared with all this sub-board is about I'm not complaining, I'm just saying I didn't have time (or inclination, really) to ramble... -
Yup, him and his poodle...

Is Dorenbos gone? Yes he is...
Dan Gross replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I think that's why they were trying Duke at LS during the pre-season. They seem to be grooming him as the "center of the future," and knew he was going to make the roster. If they could have had success with him long-snapping that saves a roster spot. Guess it didn't work out... Oh, well, if he doesn't catch on in the NFL will Dorenbos be the only player in the modern big-$$$ NFL to to jump from the NFL into a higher-paying gig? At least he got to play the game. Sorry to see him go, but that's business. -
Who has time to waste an hour waiting for lunch? Of course, if bobble got that and we got "normal" plates, he'd still finish before us. Ditto Rich.

http://www.cityofno.com/SystemModules/Prin...tal=46&tabid=26 It was linked to from a blog that Bib linked to (the story about not using the buses...). Notice all the stuff under "future plans," include 'post-disaster recovery.' The mayor even said in the evacuation order that he would commandeer buses...in a certain sense they did, but they only used them (city buses) to get folks to the "shelter of last resort," even though they knew the SuperDome wasn't necessarily going to withstand a Cat 4....

Interesting article from 2003
Dan Gross replied to Dan Gross's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'll try not to go all FFS on ya, but here are some points that the article seemed to make clear, more than anything else: --There's no way conceivable that the levees would/could have been reinforced in a way to support a category 4 between the time that it was determined that "it might be a good idea" ('99) and now, even with full budgets. --The scope of the project that was due to be proposed (the 30 year project) would obviously be hugely expensive and it would be unclear who would pay for it. Obviously you get into "what's the worth of human lives?" debate, but it would be more "how much insurance do you need?" In this day and age of scrutinized budgets, there would be a lot of gnashing of teeth if the Fed gov't was looked to in order to spend several billion on a "local" project like that. Sure, spread out over time it would probably on a yearly basis not look too unlike other "pet projects," highway improvements, etc, but there would be "sticker shock." If there's a "plus side" to Katrina it's that there will be a virtual clean slate to work with on the rebuild. --You already picked at the haughty attitude of the USACE, that if it's not their idea, it's not worthy. --Obviously this wasn't a direct hit so that perhaps the numbers wouldn't add up, but perhaps there is some small consolation in that the situation looks like it paces behind the predicted toll. --Bush Bad...Oh, I'm just kidding. Frick, I've been kinda sticking up for the guy through this. Here's a semi-related National Geogrphic article, focusing more on efforts to save the protective wetlands. -

Actually, Brown isn't a "Bush buddy," he's a "buddy of a buddy." He's the former college roommate of his predecessor at FEMA (who was Bush's original campaign manager). And yes Brown would be well suited to run the stables, as his previous job was commish of an Arabian horse show association...from which he resigned under pressure. At least that's what the lying media says... -

Well, of course, if he didn't decide to "play dead" he would have been more than glad to make Graceland the shelter of last resort... -
And because of the diluted effect you need to juice three times as many pickles. Unless you have an automatic pickle juicer it's really impractical.
-
Juicing the pickles for the retatta could take a good ten minutes. And of course you don't start the water for the pasta until you're sure you have enough pickle juice. Otherwise you end up looking around for more pickles. In order to best prepare, you'll probably want to make some trial runs

Slipping into John "Captain Obvious" Madden mode: The other thing this does is it keeps SDOC on until another replacement can be found....Not to say Roberts in inappropriate for Chief (I think, from what I know, that he's a good pick), but it conveniently lets the "opening" disappear until it can be given appropriate attention.

They did a timeline on CNN last night. Part of it was a reporter "embedded" with a citizen rescuer shortly after the hurricane (as the waters were still rising). There were folks on 2nd floor balconies in their lounge chairs refusing to be rescued, like they were going to wait until the flooding subsided... -
Are we wearing the throwback unis
Dan Gross replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
According to this article, yes they will (last line). -
Yeah, looks like they covered their "depth" areas...2 more OL, another DE and 2 DB's. No WR's.

You know, he really failed twice there: 1.) Not using the buses to get people out of town before the storm (of course that would require pre-arranging a shelter of last resort outside the city, but considering they knew that there were no buildings in the city that would adequately hold up to the "big storm"), and 2.) Not getting the buses to higher ground so that they might actually be usable after the flood. -
From reading this board, it seems like a majority of folks would be surprised if the offense could score at least 4 1/2 points...
