I think it's more that prices are fluctuating so quickly that the rate of updates can cause "lag" that will make one station that is traditionally more pricey be the cheap boy on the block for a couple of hours. Yesterday I drove into work, and out in the sticks gas was $2.799. I go into Rochester, which is usually a few cents cheaper, and the station I drove by near work was at $2.899. On the way home that same station in the sticks was up to $2.999. It's hour-by-hour. You can't even really count on Gas Buddy at this point.

Do you mean they can't just put a big "Clean Fill Wanted" sign next to the entrances to the city? It certainly will be interesting to see what they try to do....port operations obviously need to be restored, but beyond that, what?

You might want to read this. I direct you to here: It was common knowledge because it was how the levee system was designed 25 years ago. It is admittedly a "risk/reward" thing and the government simply did not want to put in the extra billions of dollars back then in order to protect against something that had such a low probability of happening. It sucks, but the system effectively worked as designed. If the ACE had received more money this year they would not have spent it shoring up the levees.

Here's a list (scroll down) from yesterday's State Press Briefing. Sean McCormack, Spokesman, speaking: Also reports of support from Sri Lanka and Singapore, with Thailand and Indonesia offering condolences and still figuring out in what way they want to support, according to The Sun (and corroborated by what I had heard on the radio this morning...).

Folks, I strongly urge you to read everything here that relates to the Hurricane. For those who don't know, BiB has more info on this situation (especially with respect to how things are generally supposed to go from a logistics standpoint) at his fingertips than any insomniac here who has been watching CNN/Fox/whatever 24/7. Start down toward the bottom of the page with his link to the National Response Plan and work your way up from there....

Don't forget to anticipate stops. Good for gas and brakes to start coasting earlier rather than slamming on the brakes when you get there. Gotta love the people who are in a hurry to be behind 6 other cars at a red light. I'll say it's not the price of gas but my new car that has me driving differently. The "trip display" that shows my MPG average in 5 minute chunks (as well as an "instant MPG" + a running average since my last fill-up) really has showed me where I can improve... As a family (that lives in the sticks between Buffalo and Rochester) we're a little more prudent about when it is that we go into the "big cities." Save the trips for when we can "combine" them, and always take the higher mileage car (instead of the more comfortable van) when we can. We've been doing that since before the Summer started...

Is Jenna Jameson in that one?

Only if he gave them all nice steak dinners first...and of course then the response would still be "what took so long...?" I am far from a Bush apologist, voted against him twice, but the problems that caused the levee breaches go much farther back than his, or even his father's term, as President. It was 25 years ago when they established the guidelines for the levees to be able to withstand what is now classified as a Category 3 hurricane. Even if the ACE had all the funds it had asked for this year, the work they would have done with the money would not have prevented the breaches. And the problems that are are happening now are happening despite an unprecedented show of support so far by federal agencies. There have been mistakes made all over the place in response to this, but I'd rather our government focus on saving lives and restoring order right now rather than blame-storming and spinning.

WRs - Josh Reed will be gone tomorrow
Dan Gross replied to nick in* england's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The talking heads on the radio were talking in pre-game about him last year. They were noting his field awareness as being a key trait. Knowing where the yard markers were, where the seams in the defense were, etc. He showed it, IMO, in the game... -
Having the people there and the ability to get things done (and the priority on what it is that they are doing) are two different things. While you obviously can't dismiss the damage that Charley did, you can't compare the number and scope of the "projects" that needed doing in both cases. Using the field hospitals as an example, I'm sure it's easier to set up field hospitals on land than on water, and even if you find places to put the hospitals in ways they can be usable (with adequate electricity and supply routes, etc), then you have to worry about finding ways to get the people who need the help to the hospitals....That's without considering how much effort needs to go into search and rescue alone....better to pluck the people from the water alive than the alternative...

"Even though" or "because?" -
Stay safe, God bless, and thank you, Rob.

I had heard about that. Of course not many refugees have Internet access to look for said housing....

The Urban dictionary has some interesting definitions...pretty much along with what you said, except a bit more colourful. PG for language. -

I'd tend to believe that Smith will go before Reed. -
Price in Bergen NY went up from 2.999 last night to 3.299 this morning. Though the place near work in Rochester only went up to 3.099.

I saw it in the "Breaking News" at the top just now...

Just duck under a metal desk. That'll save you. Also, disaster recovery in general will go much more smoothly if you pick who you are going to blame for it before-hand....

and that's why God struck them down. (stupidity knows no religious bounds...there are idiots in every faith...).

Believe it or not, I thought I read that NYS was considering it...or at least a combined tax levy. Just got my Sunoco card today...will save nearly .12/gallon at 2.959 I paid tonight. Gas went up .20/gallon at the stations I pass to/from work today....My wife bought gas today for the van, and it was the first time she experienced the "$50 click-off."

WGR, I expect.

Proposed "Ladies Lounge" for the guys...

Most of them carve their niche in pop culture with their assets (now there's a visual for you! ) I guess I'm not one for further encouraging posts of that nature (and I imagine the mod of that would have to be on the ball to make sure that the forum stays "clean.") by giving "babe pictures" their own forum.
