High Anxiety is an underappreciated favorite of mine. "Forget 'bout the Wentworth murder...accident, I said accident!"

I tend to think of it more along the lines of my favorite film, "The Hustler". Two guys play a big money pool game. When the stakes get real high, one guy asks for a bottle of whisky and a glass w/ ice in it. The other guy asks for a bottle of whisky, no glass, no ice. Both of them drink heavily during that game, but one of them, the one who asked for the glass w/ ice, walks away w/ all of the cash @ the end of the game. How does that equate to this discussion? It is possible to drink and not drink to the point of nausea. It's possible to enjoy many alcoholic beverages and yet still be aware enough to actually watch a game and know what's going on. I go to games and tailgate and drink as much as anyone, but I don't go there looking to drink a certain amount or to try to drink faster than anyone. By the end of the day, I've enjoyed not only the alcohol, but also the game.

Their defensive failures, in particular the head coach's impatience w/ any defensive system (hence his defensive coordinator carousel) is one of the main reasons Denver hasn't been the elite team many think they should be. Drafting Trueblood and Joseph instead of signing Dockery and Walker still doesn't fix the glaring deficiency on the O line: the center position. I know you like the moves, William, but if the Bills make those instead of the Bucs, we still have a smart but physically weak center who can't hold up @ the point of attack.

I think the better question is why would anyone want to "drink to get drunk" and then try to watch a football game in the first place? Seems like a colossal waste of time and money to me.

Verbal abuse is fine, but when it goes over that line and drunken idiots do things like toss lit cigarettes in the direction of opposing fans or throw beer on them, that's stupid. Too many times I've seen that kinda crap @ Bills games. If someone wants to verbally tease my wife (a Bills season ticket holder, by the way) when she attends Bills games in her Steeler gear, that's okay. I don't recommend it going any further than that though.

Wait a second here. You won $50? Nobody got injured? There were no illnesses involved? No loss of life or property? I don't buy it.

There's so many to choose from, especially 'tween Young Frankenstsin and Blazing Saddles. But, a scene I particularly like is from High Anxiety. When Brophy, Dr Thorndyke's driver/photographer, figures out that Thorndyke didn't kill that guy in the hotel lobby and then is caught by Nurse Diesel and Dr Montague. Montague comes up w/ the ridiculous idea of buying every paper in San Fransisco to cover up their plan. The looks on everyone's face, including Brophy's (the guy they're kidnapping), as he's laying out this "plan" is hilarious. Afterward, Montague sheepishly says that, "I guess it isn't such a good plan", to which Nurse Diesel replies, "It sucks." Classic scene.

Depends on how the heroin market does, I guess.

So, the Bills are moving to Jacksonville, huh?

Nah. Anyone who was here and didn't get it done sucks. It's TBD law.

I watched his game vs Tampa Bay, and I came away impressed. I had seen him fold like a cheap tent in the face of pressure while @ BC, but he really made some impressive throws while being pursued in that game and he shook off a horrible start to end up w/ a decent game. To this point, it would seem I was wrong 'bout Ryan's NFL prospects. Now, I still don't know if he's the greatest thing since sliced bread or anything like that, but he belongs in the pros, that's for sure.

That seems to be the Big XII's theme this season.

I didn't think the roughing call was a bad one. I thought it was a stupid play to happen @ an absolute horrible time. Aside from that, the Bulls had awful clock management (throwing 2 passes after the fumble recovery instead of eating up clock?) and poor play selection down the stretch and just flat out blew that game. Blowing leads of 15 earlier (21-6) and then 14 w/ just over 4 minutes to go is ridiculous. That defense, in the two games I've been there (Temple and this one) has shown that they cannot be relied upon to win a game. Remember the way they scored late in the 2nd quarter of the Temple game, only to have the defense give up a TD in just 3 plays? Davonte Shannon does have some good ball skills, but he isn't nearly physical enough for my taste. He simply let Western wideout Jamarko Simmons (who was like a man among boys on Saturday) get in front of him to catch that 2 point conversion when he was in position to either pick it off or just knock it down. In run support, I saw him make a couple Deion Sanders-like tackles too.

I haven't watched the game yet (tivo'd it; I went up to Buff to watch the UB-Western Michigan debacle), but I did get to listen to the radio after the game when I was going back to Erie and heard the score updates. I was thrilled.

You both got personal, Gordio and Stl Bills. Now get over it. Like you said, it's all in good fun, right? Hey Stl, your team is still very good, but they just got beat by a better team. It happens. I like the start my PENN STATE team has gotten off to, but I also know that 'til they can not only win the games they should win, but also take care of Michigan and TOSU, I'm not getting too excited.
