There's a party going on? When? -

Yeah, I kept checking to see if Tom was in there, and I did see him a few times on the sidelines, but not in the game. The guy ahead of him @ SS looks pretty decent, so Tom has his work cut out for him to get playing time on defense.

I like the group we've gotten over in the college football forum. There's some very good discussion of college football in general, the polls, rivalries, and player news going on there. You're one of the regulars there, along w/ Blue Fire, UConn James, KD in CT, Lori, Mark VI, and a few others who make it very fun and informative.

Well, the college football season is underway, and all I can say is FINALLY!!!!!! First off, I suppose I must make note of the games in the "Top Ranked U vs Patsy" division. USC, Texas, and Cal looked impressive in beating some scrubs blah blah blah blah blah.... Shame on Tennessee and Michigan for lackluster efforts to start the year and double shame on OU, Auburn, and Texas A&M. If you're going to schedule those creampuffs (no offense TCU, as you've been a decent team for the past few years and all, but...), you should @ least beat them, wouldn't you say? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, let's discuss the teams who actually scheduled some competition. Even though it pains me to say it, Notre Dame did look pretty good in beating Pittsburgh, even though I do believe the Panthers were highly overrated by everyone. Then again, they're in the Big Least, which is full of overrated teams. Nonetheless, the Irish offense did look good in Weis' system. Brady Quinn made some really nice throws and looked comfortable running the show, while RB Darius Walker looks to be a good one. I can tell why ND hired Weis, for his offensive skill, and it showed. Why was it again that the Panthers, a terrible defensive team last year (when they won the Big Least), hired defensive guru Wannstedt? Maybe they'll find out why next week. I dunno. Another team that beat an overrated opponent, the Ohio State Buckeyes, showed everyone why they'll be a team to beat this year. The defense was all over Miami of Ohio's QB, Josh Betts (no Roethlisberger by any means). Offensively for OSU, Justin Zwick and Antonio Pittman had many questions to answer, and they did just that. Zwick played well and looks to keep the starting QB job while Pittman had a nice day on the ground, an area of concern this year for the Buckeyes. If Pittman can continue to play this well, they'll be in great shape. So, which top ranked team was the most impressive, all things considered? Ask Dan Hawkins, the head coach of Boise State. I'm sure he knows the answer. Yes, I think the beating the Bulldogs of Georgia put on a very good Boise State team (led by one of the top coaches in college football, in my opinion) was the top effort of the week. They beat a top 20 (#18) team by 5 touchdowns (48-13)!!!!!!! DJ Shockley looked great. I guess he had plenty of energy, after having to sit and watch David Greene become the school's (and NCAA 1A's) all time winningest QB. Shockley threw for nearly 300 yards and 5 TDs and showed everyone that the loss of Greene won't be catastrophic for Georgia. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, on to my beloved Nittany Lions. Escaping w/ a 23-13 win @ HOME over South Florida? Oh boy. New speed, new attitude, same old offense. Justin King and Derrick Williams look as good as advertised, but they need more to do, especilly in the archaic offense PSU is attempting to run. Michael Robinson looked awful @ QB; could Morelli be much worse? Robinson's decision making and awareness in the pocket leave much to be desired. Defensively, the Lions looked very good, even w/ the absence of LB Dan Connor and a DL thinned by injury and 'academic difficulties' (bad grades from a dumba**). Still, Tamba Hali, Alan Zemaitis, Paul Posluszny, and Matthew Rice did a great job of leading the PSU defense, which dominated early on but wore down due to an inefficient offensive effort. If the offense doesn't improve drastically, it's going to be a very difficult year, especially towards the end of the season (OSU, Michigan, Purdue).

They must have all had the same posters on their walls when they were kids: "The more I study, the more I know, the more I know, the more I forget, the more I forget, the less I know, ...so why study?"

Food and supplies are necessary when you're in a state of emergency. They should be shot no matter what they have. -
It's been a long 5 years. Welcome back, Nicholas.

Just about 100%. Thanks for asking.

Same here. I have 2 tickets for the game that I'll give to someone who wants to go.

Can't say I disagree. I could be wrong, but I feel he'll be more like Carson Palmer than Roethlisberger. He'll get there, but it'll take a bit more time.

Oh, but the name calling is not only fun, but it's way cool, too.

To take these one @ a time: 1. (Can anyone beat USC?) Yes. They are the odds on favorite, but they're not invincible. If they come out and smoke Oregon, then people will have to watch out. 2. (Can Texas beat Oklahoma?) This is like the 'Can anyone stop the Patriots from winning it all?' argument. Until I see it, I won't believe it. To borrow a line from the College Game Day program, Texas goes into this game hoping this is "the year" while Oklahoma goes into this game knowing they can beat Texas. That's the difference. Not saying it can't be done since Texas has a lot of talent, but they have to show and prove. 3. (Is Tennessee strong enough to survive their brutal schedule?) The Vols should do fine this year. Fullmer is a first class coach who has kept Tennessee as one of the SEC's top programs. I don't see any reason to believe there will be a dropoff this year. 4. (How big an impact will the newly formed ACC have on the BCS?) The BCS has bigger problems than just the ACC. They have to hope and pray they don't get a repeat of last year, as there are a number of teams w/ the ability to run the table and win out this year. Then again, it could push them further into that 'you need a playoff' corner............ Sorry. I drifted off there, but I was having a nice dream of a true NCAA 1A champion. 5. (Will Louisville get any respect if they go undefeated?) Lee Corso seems to feel that they could be this year's Utah if they win out, which is possible in this year's Big (L)East. I will say this: the Pittsburgh game in November should be a good one. Lucky for the Cards, they're @ home for that one.
