  1. WTF! Where the flying F do you get this crap? I’m acting like someone who knows the difference between a scrawny, undeveloped QB entering college and Cam Newton. Period. Nothing more. So I’d appreciate it if you don’t involve me in some bull crap narrative you have with other posters. Regarding Wentz, he was also light years ahead if Allen as a prospect entering college, too. And that is rally saying something considering Wentz wasn’t lighting up the recruitment boards, either. It’s interesting that the same college coach with the “recent history of developing a top 5 nfl qb” saw enough in Allen to make him his QB and develop him enough to make him a top 7 pick in the draft as well.
  2. It was rumored on some HF boards at the time by people purportedly close to both the O’Reillys and Nylanders. Definitely taken with boulders of salt, but the timing of his departure to Toronto makes me wonder about it.
  3. Allen got drafted as much for his aptitude for the game and other intangible as he did his physical tools. Per the bold text, I have no idea who you’re addressing or what you mean by the comment.
  4. I don’t buy for a second that Cal O’Reilly was moved simply to make room for the development of younger players. Not at that time, at that stage of the season. And especially not to the Marlies. Something served as a catalyst to make that sudden move. Agree entirely about Krueger and his potential to get the most out of younger players. And I’m encouraged by his initial meeting with Eichel.
  5. Good point. But Cam Newton was a 5 star recruit and highly a developed high school QB entering college. Physically, he was already a man amongst boys in college. A fully grown stud. He was pro ready the day he walked out of college and into the NFL. Josh Allen on the other hand, was a scrawny little boy in high school with limited experience as a QB. He was as green as they come at Wyoming and is still learning the position at the pro level. And while still very green, he has shown an aptitude for the position that is even more impressive than his arm and athleticism. And while his arm talent is second to none, it’s that aptitude and demonstrated work ethic that serve him best. But I can’t expect those not more closely familiar with his story and persona to appreciate that.
  6. Williams better start dating the other Pegula daughter.
  7. I doubt those public pronouncements of discontent had much to do with it at all, actually. Three months transpired between the time he made those statements and the time he was traded. Three months of further discussions. Three months of further clarity. And perhaps three months of further festering. Nobody can convince me O’Reilly and his reps didn’t do all they could to get him traded out of town. I think he/they created an untenable situation. Deliberately. Also, there have been rumors about the situation in Rochester with his brother Cal. Apparently he was a real prick towards Nylander when the Sabres arranged for Nylander to live with the O’Reillys. Players just don’t get loaned to hated division rivals during the season so it’s hard to explain why the Amerks gave Cal O’Reilly away to the Toronto Marlies like they did.
  8. You don’t get any guesses. You already know definitively. But I’d urge our ghost friend to read the “weaknesses” of any player ever profiled at the combine.
  9. Given his locker clean out day presser and the feelings he expressed about losing his love for the game, etc., I think it's fair to ask these questions. I'm surprised any of the assembled media didn't ask that those questions. At the very least, orchestrating your way out of town in such a fashion raises questions in my mind about his character.
  10. One guess who this is: > Marginal height and frame are nearly maxed out > Hands are more active than strong - could play with more pop and power > Overpowered in the run game and ground up by double teams > Gets snared and controlled by bigger, longer blockers > Not a two-gap player > Has some tweener traits -- lacks ideal length and bend to play outside
  11. From his initial teleconference with the media to this latest interview, Krueger continuously shows his cerebral superiority. What a contrast to our last two coaches. Night and day in the brains department.
  12. “His arm started to become a major factor.” Damn straight. You can’t teach what he’s got in the arm talent department. I give Daboll a ton of credit. He really used Allen’s injury time to tinker and teach. He started forcing the issue not only by adding speed after Allen returned, but by dictating coverages with different personnel groups and formations as well. I’m hoping we run more out of spread formations this year as Shady should feast with the added space and guys up front that can sustain blocks. So psyched for next season.
  13. Absolutely. Eric Turner is one of the best at what he does. And we’re lucky to have him.
  14. Say what you want about his attitude, but he was our best overall player while he was here and he’s doing the same thing in St. Louis. And unless we get a comparable player in return eventually, whether it be Thompson developing, one of the draft picks, or whether it’s using those picks to trade for one, the Sabres got fleeced in the deal.
  15. Hughes is the 26th highest paid DE in the league according to Spotrac. Is he not well within the top 26 DEs in the league? To say he isn’t is specious at best. That being the case, how is that $11.5m a season a dumb thing?
  16. Good stuff. Thanks for posting it. Per the bold, if he can get these guys to have each other’s backs and to adopt the necessary bunker mentality to play for each other night in and night out, he will get his three years and then some. He strikes me as the type who can know players as individuals, learn what motivates them, and then plays to those motivations. It’s a unique skill. Lol! I didn’t take it as shouting at all. I took it as you having the courage of your convictions and the confidence to share them in a bold manner.
  17. What is your declarative judgment on the trade, as it stands, RIGHT NOW? Regarding Kane, yeah we know the pieces. But there are still future, unknown pieces involved. I don’t see how we don’t have to wait on future pieces to judge the Kane deal, but we have to wait until all the dust settles in the ROR deal. It’s an inconsistent view. I say one can judge a trade at any stage. And right now, the judgment on the ROR deal is that we got nothing much to show for it. If that changes in time, my judgment of the trade will change as well.
  18. I hear what you’re saying, but two solid third liners don’t replace the top 6 productivity of ROR. Basically, we need a star to come out of that deal and Thompson is our best hope of that happening. He has a ways to go to say the least.
  19. Risky to prematurely to evaluate trades? I don't agree. Trades can be evaluated at every stage. And right now, as it stands CURRENTLY, the ROR trade is a disaster, regardless of any unrelated acquisitions that may occur. We acquired Thompson, Berglund, Sobotka, either the 30th or 31st pick in this year's draft, and the Blues' 2nd rounder in 2021. We know what all the pieces are. Do we have to wait until that 2021 2nd rounder develops or is traded for something else before we can evaluate the trade? Really? The odds say that picks at the end of the first round and picks in the 2nd don't turn into players like ROR. So that leaves it up to Thompson to become a dominant top 6 force, which he is far from, again, AT THE MOMENT. In the meantime, we can evaluate until our hearts' content. We acquired Montour, O'Regan, and either a 4th this year or a 3rd next year from the Sharks for Kane so the book has been written. Can we evaluate the Kane trade yet or is that, too, premature? Do we really have to wait to see if that 4th round pick in 2019 or 3rd round pick in 2020 pan out or not before we can break it down? Really?
  20. I think the wheel was meant to be broken and I'll be surprised if GRRM doesn't destroy or otherwise render the throne unimportant.
  21. Lol! We've all been there to be sure. My advice is to wait for the final two books. Of course, given GRRM's glacial pace, none of us will be around when they're finally published, so have at it!
  22. Technically, we are talking about the cousin of the Queen in the North. Anyway, more to your point, the writers left the distinct impression that Jon was heading north with the free folk. Castle Black is closed to him as the scene of him looking back at the closing gate suggested. But if you want to continue to torture yourself over these mundane issues, more power to you.
