1. All about the price , seeing that Pat Williams has posed no problems, a consistent run stuffer, invovled with community, good tandem with sam adams, if he was to come cheaper then simon..Be rest assured williams will be back next season..he's quite the fan favorite.

    190044

I like Pat as much as the next guy, it was just a matter of thinking with my head instead of my heart. No doubt Pat Williams is a good player and man but one can't play sentimental favorites with players if expect to win. One last point didn't include in original post, I know tackles are an unofficial stat but I should also point out Williams total dropped from 82 to 41 (not including today's stats) this year, I hope this isn't because his age is catching up with him but is a significant drop and again despite not being the tackler that Williams is Simon was credited with 32 (not including today's stats) this season.

  2. Of the three, Jennings is the most valuable because the offensive line is so important, and because he is nice and young. Pat Williams and Eric Moulds are both still capable of good play, and both are nearing the ends of their careers. Despite the travesty of our late-game run defense (or lack thereof) I liked the way big Pat played all year, and I'd like to see him stay. You need depth at DT, and Pat can be part of that rotation. As for Moulds, I believe we may already have his replacement on the roster in the form of Sam Aiken.

    190033

I agree Jennings the most important of the three. Followed by Moulds and then Williams (see the thread I start against bringing back Williams for more info). As a guy who was against drafting Evans (as thought Aiken and Reed and Shaw were solid) it's tough for me to say this but Aiken barely showed up as a 3rd WR this season to think he could be a number 2 with Evans as a 1 is questionable. As I think the primary reason Evans excelled so much this year was oppurunity (with Reed hurt) and he was playing opposite Moulds. Maybe Aiken's lack of production was a lack of faith by Drew (as we saw early on how unproductive Evans was without Drew's faith). So you could be right but let's not forget the reason Aiken was 4th Round pick was a lack of speed and possibly the same for Reed. That said I won't throw Aiken away as next year is his 3rd year which is all too often the turning point in a WRs career. I'll also give Reed a slight reprieve because he was injured most of this year.

  3. I'm ready to take some flack for what I'm about to say but as much as I like the guy, I think we might want to consider letting him go. However I would only consider this if it would allow us to get Corey Simon. Of course I doubt this would happen due to the prescence of Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson. Not to mention we could probably get Williams cheaper and I know Simon isn't the run stuffer that Williams is. Yet Simon's youth and added pass rush might be be worth considering if looking at the short and long term good of the team. As we all know our D-line is severly lacking a pass rusher not named Schobel. Most have looked to the LDE spot for help but perhaps it's time to look at the DTs. Also, despite recording 5 sacks, I don't consider Sam Adams a pass rushing DT where this is Simon's forte (I know Simon only had 5.5 this year but consider this, Simon has more sacks the last two seasons then Williams has for his career. Added that Simon is 5 years younger then Williams, it would give us a true centerpiece for if Adams leaves in a year or two as I personally think he will. Not to mention I think Ron Edwards has only shown to be a wave (3rd down and spot starter) player and I question how good Anderson can be considering he was inactive most of the year and unable to beat out Justin Bannan, who I consider a career backup. Thoughts?

  4. That guy drops too many passes, and he's scheduled to make $8.5 million next season, his tenth in the league. This past year, he just barely surpassed 1000 yards, despite being Drew's main target on most plays. Moulds has three seasons when he got to about 1300 yards or better, and that was when we didn't run the ball often enough to take pressure off the passing game. If we put some other guy in the possession receiver place he might do just as well if not better.

    189973

Moulds is definately not worth that cap figuere but at the same time he's not worth getting rid of. Eric has been a pretty much team first guy and hopefully that continues, as love to see us restructure his contract in order to keep Pat Williams and Jonas Jennings. As a loss of either one would definately hurt this team immensly IMHO. I think Moulds' loss would also hurt as much if not more but do think we have to start thinking of his eventual replacement in 2006 or 2007.

  5. He is only 29.

I think Ralph believes his team is a piece or two away from the Super Bowl.

Freddie Jones would be great for a couple of years while the youngsters learn the ropes.

Drew misses a dominate tight end.

He used to kill the Bills with Ben Coates.

Freddie Jones is lot more athletic than Bubba Franks.

He is also a bigger target than the other tight ends on our roster.

    Other than Peters of course.

    186543

I believe Jones is due to be an UFA after this season. So the need to trade for him is uncalled for. In terms of adding him, I wouldn't mind it but think that re-signing Jonas Jennings and Pat Williams is far more important. As Campbell is a serviceable TE and while Jones would be an improvement, I don't think it's worth losing these two guys for the sake of adding Jones. As previously stated, let's also not forget that Tim Euhus will be in his 2nd year next year and pretty athletic himself.

  6. I was a teaching assistant at the University at Buffalo a few years ago and one of my students was Mark Graham, who was in training camp with the Bills this preseason. I also went to the same high school (Kenmore West) and university (UB)as Jim McNally, of course he was there in the 60s, well before I was attended. My high school Global Studies was an offensive lineman at Syracuse and clamed to play with Jim Brown.

  8. That all may or may not be true but the fact seems to be that Winfield has three picks this year and McGee has three picks this year. If AW was still here, McGee would be on the bench, but the same would be true if TV didn't get hurt. Baker would likely be at safety. Frankly, I like the guys we got there now, too, overall. I think McGee is going to be a stud, and consistetly get INTs.

    169450

Not to mention I think McGee had 2 other INTs overruled because he had a foot out of bounds.

  9. I read an article somewhere yesterday saying they didn't really know what position Jason Peters should be playing.  He certainly has the size to play DE, why not try him there to generate a speed rush?  Maybe only play him there on certain passing downs...but it seems to me like a possible fit.

    168881

Peters began his collegiate career as a backup DE/DT but was converted to TE mid way through the 2001 season. I stated before the season, the biggest problem for Peters is the guy has no true position to play. Of course if he continues to make plays like he did Sunday he might just end up another career special teamer ala Mark Pike.

Here's a link to an early Peters' bio to learn a little more about his ability as a d-lineman.

  10. I don't think atlanta will sign Jennings.   I know he went to Georgia but if we lose Jennings it's not teh end of the world Jennings always gets hurt.  I think we need a top Lt anyways.   LIKE WALTER JONES FROM SEATTLE OR PACE FROM ST. LOUIS.

    168278

The Rams and Seahawks have franchised both Pace and Jones the last two, in essence taken them off the market, and then signed them to a 1 year contract. I'm sure it will be more of the same.

I think the best thing we can do with Jennings is to put a transition tag on him because we all agree he's not worth franchise money. If we have a transition tag available it could allow us to keep Jennings if he's offered a favorable contract by another team it would at least give us a failsafe if if we can't find a replacement. Someone posted a list of 2005 free awhile ago and doing a quick scan didn't really see anyone I felt to be as good as Jennings but will do some fine tune scouting when get the chance. One name I do remember is Bob Whitfield, who has definately seen better days, but could be a guy for depth purposes only and could help be used to help develop a draft choice (sorta like Jim Jeffcoat did for Marcellus Wiley). As let's not forget that Marcus Price is also due to be an UFA. While I wouldn't mind Price back, I see him as nothing more then a career backup.

Two distinct possible short/long temr replacements could be LJ Shelton or Chris Samuels, while not on the list (as recall), both might end up being cap casualities. I think someone mentioned Brad Hopkins a long while ago, who might be a good short term solution and/or mentor like Whitfield.

  11. That's right.  But as I mentioned, the Bills had a good lead when RJ went out and Flutie blew the save.  Then they got their 1st win against the 49'ers the following week with RJ starting.  Then RJ got injured early in the Colts game and the rest was history.

    168071

You're right, according to the 1998 NFL in review. which offers game summaries and boxscores. I still maintain by letting Flutie take over for the rest of 1998 and most of 1999 Wade and Co failed in letting RJ develop on the field, which IMHO is the best way for a QB to develop.

  12. What is your thought here?  I assume you are impressed with the great play shown by Peppers, but we had no chance at him as he was taken second overall in the draft that year and Carolina clearly had their eye on Peppers and were not going to trade that pick no way no how.

In retrospect which is always 20/20 the mistake the Bills made on the DL was switching away from a 3-4 scheme which had been employed successfully by the Bills for years under Cottrell to a 4-3.

Sure the bulwarts of the 3-4 Hansen to retirement, Wiley to FA and big Ted (and even BS a year earlier) were gone as cap casualties so a renewed 3-4 would have been spotty, but this situation was made even worse by GW insisting on his scheme rather than building a D to fit the player talents we had,

    165924

Back then my first choice for HC was Dom Capers and OC Chris Palmer (or the current regime in Houston). As I felt Capers would have kept the 3-4 in tact granted you do make some good points about losing talent on the D-line and while it's hard to know the ramifications of a different coaching staff we could look back even if still had GW and co. As the Bills might have had a shot at Peppers, as let's not forget that 1 of our 3 wins that season did come against Carolina. As if Carolina wins that game and assuming everything else being equal they would have been 2-24 and we would have fallen to 2-14, I believe by tie breakers(head to head) we would have then earned the right to draft ahead of Carolina since the would have beaten us.

I don't know the about holding the tiebreaker over Detroit (since they also finished 2-14) but let's assumed we held the 2nd pick to keep things simple. The question though is did the Bills grade Peppers out better then Mike Williams and/or Joey Harrington. The question also would be how different would the draft be if Peppers were off the board and what the Panthers would have done and how it would have impacted the entire draft. If things stayed relative similiar the Bills realisitcally could of selected Peppers in the 1st, OT Mike Pearson in the 2nd and if still traded up taken a WR like Antwaan Randle El or Antonio Bryant (as we wouldn't need Denney since Peppers would be our LDE). Of course there's a chance we would have stood pat as well and possibly drafted QB Josh McCown in the 3rd or QB David Garrard in the 4th or possibly TE Randy McMichael.

  13. I just bought this game and others in the EA Spots 2003 Pack for only $19.95. I downloaded the update. Yet when I started up the game to my surprise the game still has the 2002 rosters. I did a quick web search and found two supposed updated roster files yet I have no idea how to install them as found no directions from the websites (these weren't found at EA.com).

I tried the included PDF (since the game has no real manual)l but there were no real directions and since this game is out of date I can't find anything of substance at EA.com.

I thought all I'd have to do is rename one of the files league and overwrite the game's league file. After doing this, I started up the game and looked promising as I went in the game and it did overwrite rosters (as Troy Vincent was with the Bills) yet when I tried to play an exhibition game instead of playing the game I was kicked back to my desktop. I've tried more then once to the same result.

So my question does anyone have an updated roster file and /or instructions on how to install it?

  14. Another guy we wanted to get Bobber, how is he doing in KC ?

    161840

According to his Stats Inc. Profile, Bober is playing RT for the Chiefs due to an injury to John Welbourn and has given up 3.0 sacks in 2 starts (13 games) played this season. In comparison Marcus Price has given 4.50 sacks in 3 starts (11 games). Meanwhile BIG Mike Williams has given up 6.50 sacks in 12 games thus far.

Of course many here were wanting Bober at Center and while I know sacks not the only stat to judge an O-lineman on, to date Teague has given up 0 sacks in 9 starts.
