The only place that the idea that Childress "may" be out of the running seems to be a Vic tweet. I would not automatically assume this to be the truth. It may ultimately turn out to be true, who knows now, but it's a flimsy case for it being true. One Vic tweet, saying he "may" be out of the running.
Edit: For clarity sake, Vic said that Childress "Appears" to be out of the picture, not "may" be. Same thing, but since I used the quotes...
and lately Vic has been bad at predicting things as he pretty much thought it was all but certain Lynn be our HC. While I have read reports that Childress was set to retire last year I can see where he could connect the dots but until we don't see Childress I will question Vic's sources.

From the Buff News today, and the analysis of Rex's defensive failure:
Given that, if the Bills are on the clock and both Mike Williams and the best safety in the draft are available, which do you take?
This is, of course, assuming that we don't add a starting WR or S in free agency, which I don't see happening.
Trade down for a 2nd or 3rd round pick and take the best available CB in the mid twenties.

Where did Matt Miller have Tom Brady rated? Or Matt Hasselbeck, Dak Presott, Drew Brees? These "evaluators" get it wrong too
THANK YOU!! The TAPE DONT LIE!!
He's been playing in his uncles "shadow" since he put on a helmet and shoulder pads. This kid is talented and the Bills shouldn't pass on him
Johnny Manziel and Ryan Leaf had talent too. Yet they ended up busts, it happens and and don't think asking him to play in the shadow of his uncle and playing for his hometown would suit him well.
-
Playing for his hometown and being in his uncle shadow is probably the worse situation for this kid. Not to mention he's not the biggest of QB and takes a lot of chances and has character concerns raise a major red flag. I say draft someone else, Pat Mahomes is an interesting thought if we don't take someone in Round 1.

I doubt it as LaFleur's been tied to Kyle Shanahan. Most are assuming Shanahan is going to HC the 49ers which make LaFleur the 49ers OC. I am think if Brad Childress wants it the job is his. I wonder if we could make Olson the QB coach though.
-
Nick Foles also identifies himself as a Christian. Why not go with him since he has a history working with Andy Reid and has a longer career ahead of him and cost us less to acquire him?

Cleveland: Jimmy G
SF: DeShone Krizer
Jets: Tony Romo
Bears: Mitch Trubisky
Bills: Nick Foles
Broncos: Tyrod Taylor
Texans: DeShawn Watson

He's also worked with Frazier in Minnesota so that might help with the defense working off the offense or whatever the exact quote McDermott made.Brad Childress is a long time Reid assistant and a former HC. Last year, he was with the Chiefs as a special assistant. This year, he was named co-OC. He has the clout, the experience, and, likely, the desire for more than that. He's only 60.
It is highly likely that he has been with Reid these last few years to groom Nagy for the OC position. I have a hard time believing that Reid would block him from a job that gives him more responsibility and status, provided Childress wants the job.
-
That sucks as I'd prefer Nagy over Childress and Olson.Reports say that Chiefs will block Nagy from interviewing for OC.
-
Then move on from Tyrod and bring on Nick Files at a much cheaper cap figure an UFA and draft a QB to develop with Cardale.Olson would be terrible. We'd be another team he'd be fired from.
Childress I'd like which probably means we're running a west coast scheme. Not sure Tyrod's strengths are a good fit for that offense though.
-
Andy Reid usually lets his guys move up.
and Andy has a strong relationship with our running game coordinator/O-line coach and McDermott so think he'd be more willing to let Nagy come here than elsewhere.
I would be in favor of Olson. I mentioned it elsewhere too. Hes worked with Brees in college. Made something of Kitna and made something of Freeman. Also look what he did with Bortles last year.
My biggest concern with him is he better suited as a QB coach than an OC?
Just as long as we hire a separate OC and QB coach.
-
I wonder if they would think of naming Scott Turner(QB coach of Vikings the last 3 years/Norv's son) as the OC, with Norv Turner serving in a senior offensive assistant role. Scott's promotion wouldn't completely unfounded either as many people credit him with the selection and development of Teddy Bridgewater.
He also coached with McDermott with Carolina 2011-12.
Scott got fired, http://sports.yahoo.com/news/vikings-fire-quarterback-coach-scott-101256213.html, so he's available. Matt Nagy of KC/formerly Philly sounds interesting as he could be an up and coming guys and he has a relationship with Nick Foles who might be a good bridge QB for the Bills while we develop Cardale or a QB we draft this year.
-
Good suggestion!
Except that Taylor might not be here in 2017 and beyond. Matt Nagy's an interesting name, I'd consider him and hopefully he can bring Nick Foles with him.
-
Isn't Frazier a cover 2, fairly conservative coach?
If you read up on McDermett he plays quite a bit of cover 2/zone coverage in his defenses.
-
it won't be that interesting imo. pretty big no-brainer for McCoy.
I don't know in Buffalo he could have more of a say who the QB will be, if he doesn't want Tyrod and have a top 5 NFL running back/squad or go to Denver with two QBs that struggled in 2016 and a questionable running game. If he's looking to become a HC sooner than later he might have better short term success in Buffalo.
-
It'll be interesting to see what happens if Joseph and McDermott both want McCoy as their OC.
I imagine Bill Musgrave could be the alternative to either one.

John Harbaugh
Mike Zimmer
Mike McCarthey

I love a good train wreck on TV. Great show! I love how he is using his tag lines when terminating a contestant.
I'm waiting for him to say "You won't be back".

I enjoyed Berman in the NFL Primetime heyday... what Bills fan didn't love his 'nobody circles the wagons' bit? He was entertaining. His schtick did indeed get old though. His work in baseball was brutally bad... at his absolute worst at the Home Run Derby.
He was a huge part of building ESPN into the giant it is today. But when your on-air presence is a series of gags, it is bound to grow tiresome. No one would call him a serious journalist, right?
Nope Berman was a classic talking head. When his shtick was tolerable he was part of the Entertainment in the name of the network.
-
Romo is significantly better than TT. But he's old and getting fragile, too. Even that option has its shortcomings.
So that's why you add Romo, keep building Cardale and draft another QB this year.
-
Makes no sense for Whaley to say "were close" and then move on from Tyrod unless he's very confident they can identify and acquire an upgrade at QB.
or in speaking to some of the HC candidates they've told him they don't want to go with Tyrod. Yet I can't imagine Lynn saying that which tells me Lynn might be gone too.

Big Ben through 2 years:
5,219 total yards, 5006 passing yards, 38 total tds, 34 passing tds, 20 ints, 98.4 rating, 64.55 completion %
Tyrod through 2 years starting:
7206 total yards, 6058 passing yards, 47 total tds, 37 passing tds, 12 ints, 94.5 rating, 62.7 comp %
Bills fans have no idea what it is to watch a young qb grow. There will be ups and downs but when a guy compares favorably with someone like Big Ben or Russell Wilson through their first 2 years they should be worth holding onto. Seriously when was the last qb the Bills developed? Jim Kelly who started professionally for 2 years before coming to the Bills? I guess I can give that one. So 30 years ago Bills fans watched a qb grow. It's not all sunshine and roses while someone learns to play the position and there is a lot more good than bad with Tyrod. I really hope this isn't true.
Tyrod has four years in the league before his first two years.

Sounds like he's rebuilding his 2013 Bills staff as best he can.
