  1. I believe we might sign L. Petitgout. He was an undrafted FA when he went to the giants and McNally was his coach. I think he will be affordable and can be versitale enough to play OG or OT. Let me know what you think...

    Comment:

Petitgout is consistent, durable and experienced. He has some versatility, having played both tackle positions and guard in the NFL. He is tall, rangy and has good first-step quickness. His is smart and has surprisingly good feet for his size. He understands blocking angles and knows how to work defenders. He usually plays in control, rarely overextends and can handle combination moves. He is adept at cut blocking when necessary. He moves laterally with ease and has some natural ability to change directions. He can mirror and slide with most ends and run them past the pocket with his long arms. He is effective on pull and trap blocks and on the second level. His footwork and frame help him close down separation and maintain contact with defenders. But Petitgout lacks ideal power and athleticism. He can get a little upright, and he won't move the pile in the run game. He has some problems against big, strong two-gap linemen. He lacks lower-body explosiveness and isn't a great finisher. He isn't quite quick enough when isolated on the edge.

From the write up he sounds like be a marginal guard prospect but what worry me is the two gap comments especially with us playing in a division with several 4-3/3-4 tweener teams like the Pats, Jets and Dolphins. I'd consider him but he probably go elsewhere in hopes to get bigger money due to his left OT experience he feels he could play the role with another team. I could see a team like the Falcons pursuing him.

  2. McGahee was 24th in the league in rushing last season...

He only played in 14 games last season and probably not at full strength/speed for another three games. Yet despite all that he still averaged around 70.7 rushing yards per game, if he gets a few more carries and a little healthier he'd easily gain another 10 yards a game which place him among the top 10 in the NFL.

  3. Let's see what this does to his draft stock.(Just depends on the team how they factor it)

    Calhoun ran a 4.49

    Peterson ran a 4.38.....blazing!

He'll probably rerun at the Cal pro day but right now with the sexual abuse allegations and that time would think it could take him out of the top 15.

I was watching some earlier, this kid Stanton, also has an arm, quick release. Not sure where is is projected but of the group I say, he was the smoothest and easily the best of that group which included Smith from OSU. Leak also looked pretty damn good.

Stanton was well thought of entering the season but had a poor one which caused his stock to drop. He might bring it up again with a strong combine. Though think it might only creep him in the bottom third of the 1st Round at the best.

  4. One more thing in the highly unlikely event this trade did take place. It better be for Calvin Johnson and not Adrian Peterson

As great a prospect as Johnson is, and he might just be the best one in the entire draft, asking a rookie WR to make an impact is asking a lot. I know someone will point out Colston but he was an exception not only with as late as he was drafted but most WRs take a good two - three seasons to make a true impact. Granted if we fill some of our other needs through free agency I'm all for taking a WR high in the draft but staying where we are now might allow us to get a Dwayne Jarrett and keep our other picks proposed in the trade which to me is far more valuable.

  5. but we cant re-sign him under our Cap to Cash policy anyways so... its sort of a moot point

Maybe Levy should have held off announcing that policy too until after free agency begin and we started adding players etc. I understand why Levy annonced the policy to prepare the fans etc to understand why we likely won't re-sign Nate and not get a big name like Steinbach etc but it to me it also impacts how other teams pursue our free agents (as now maybe a team will go harder after Kelsay even though early reports had him wanting to stay here) or even impact potential free agents will consider signing here. Though back onto Nate we could of always tagged him and let another team sign him and get some form of compensation for him then just letting him go for nothing.

Not true. As I've said repeatedly, the Broncos signed Bailey to a tiered-bonus contract. He got $6M upfront, and another 2-$6M option/buyout payments that were paid at a later date (like 2 years apart each, or all at once if he were cut). If the Bills offered Nate that, his "cash" against the "cap" would be somewhere in the $7M range ($6M in bonus and $1M in salary, if even).

And I wouldn't call Kelsay or even Willis a "star" player. Both have been disappointments.

I'll agree Kelsay is not a star. Yet McGahee on the other hand could be argued. As let's not forget last year he missed some time due to injury and think he is among the top 15 of his positon which puts him to the average to above average status. Either way both are key cogs that if lost or let go without a suitable replacement could cause this team to take a step back or prevent a step up next year. I think one only needs to look at the Patriots as an example of team hardly filled with stars but finds ways to continually win as they retain guys like Troy Brown year in and year out because he provides solid production. I felt a few years ago it was a mistake to let Ruben Brown go because it made a hole that wasn't necessary to make which has yet to be filled, I felt the same way with Sam Adams last year but will admit that maybe Adams loss wasn't as big as thought it was going to be. I'm going to definately feel the same if McGahee is dealt. While Anthony Thomas proved to be a good backup/role player I feel it's foolish to anyone think he could step in and replace Willis game in and game out.

  6. Is Adrian Petersen THAT good that he is worth swapping 1st round picks and giving up a 2nd and 4th rounder to Cleveland?

No one can predict the future, but I have to say the odds of Buffalo coming out on top in your scenario are pretty low in my opinion. I don't think Marv would make that deal and I wouldn't either. But hey, Adrian Petersen could be a monster who stays healthy for years to come. My crystal ball says no.

Agreed. As the Bills are hardly a RB away from going from playoff pretenders to contenders. Especially with us possibly on the verge we'll lose two of our best players on D in free agency. I'm high on Peterson as the best RB in the draft but can't say he's any better then McGahee right now and that be far too much to give up in terms of net loss and gain.

  7. 30 Rock is the best new show on TV. Fey, Baldwin, Morgan ane the supporting cast are consistently funny and it's a half hour show.

I guess comedy is up to interpretation. As I wouldn't even say 30 Rock is the best show on NBC Thursday nights as would rank The Office and Scrubs higher. Although Scrubs isn't as good as it was in earlier seasons. Another show I have to give a nod to is Extras on HBO as Stephen Merchant who play's Andy's agent is brilliant.

  8. Calvin Johnson runs a 4.35 40

That is sick for a man his size!!

He is like Larry Fitzgerald with Lee Evans caliber speed.

Where'd you see he ran a 4.35? I see a http://nflexperts.scout.com/2/621675.html he ran a 4.45 and 4.38 respectively. If you have to make a comparison with that size and speed then I think that's favorable to Andre Johnson of the Texans. Though I can't help notice in that linked article how many other WRs are running 4.3s which is generally unheard of.

  9. Joey Porter? the steelers might release the LB why, it makes no sense to me but a heck of a guy i would love to have, but wouldnt come cheap.

Free agency starts a week from today and the Steelers still have not made their intentions known about linebacker Joey Porter. Coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday he has talked to Porter but gave little indication what plans he may have for him.

    -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

If a coach that studied under Monte Kiffin and the Tampa Cover 2 doesn't want Porter why would we?

  10. Yeah that year it really stung when Indy picked Harrison, but you knew there was no way he was gonna make it to us.

When the Rams took Eddie Kennison one pick before Harrison I thought we had a chance.

That goes along with Law #2 of the Draft...

Given the Bills have pick "n" in the first round, there will always be n-1 # of cant miss, blue chip, stud prospects, and we will always miss them.

But of course you both missed the biggest Law of the Draft that when the Bills go on the clock, ESPN undoubtedly will chose to go to commercial before the pick.

  11. i have this horrible feeling that Okoye is going to be my new AJ Hawk, who was my new Roy Williams...

it seems, year after year, every player i personally REEEALLY want gets picked a couple of spots before us.

I recall it happening back to back years for me but to make matters worse it was by the same team. As I really wanted Marvin Harrison and Tarrick Glenn, well we know where they ended up.

  12. Here is an initial take from Gil Brandt.

    Brandt's Quick Hits

The Scout.com Combine Newswire from their blog:

1:59 p.m.: Fresno State Wide Receiver Paul Williams has a brother, J.D. Williams, that played DB for the Buffalo Bills during their Super Bowl seasons and later coached against Paul as a DBs coach at Washington. When Paul was asked if J.D could've covered him, Paul said, "Never. Quote me on that. Never." Checked in.
  13. Been looking for some site that had a comprehensive list of those not under contract and haven't been able to find a good one (that actually keeps itself up to date)

Scout.com has been a good source in the past however their list isn't as complete as others yet this is the first day I've seen it posted so they could be in the process of updating it or only putting higher end FAs this year.

  14. Bills LBs are a mess

they need one on the first day.

my guess is Willis gets more hype after the combine.

I was watching Cold Pizza this morning and they were talking about the Panthers needing a MLB. The guy on there (I forget his name as this the first time I really watched the show) mentioned he felt Willis would be a reach at pick 14 but made mention if they go for a MLB in Round 2 a name to remember is Brandon Siler, who we might want to look at if end up taking Revis or WR Dwayne Jarrett or or DT Amobi Okoye in Round 1.

  15. The more I read about Revis, the more I like him. I love CBs who play well against the run and his athleticism is supposedly excellent. I don't know enough about him to know if he is a good fit for the Cover 2, but if we lose Nate, I wouldn't mind snatching this guy up at all.

Also, going by various mock drafts, there is a possibility that we could trade down and still get him. One mock has him going to INDY at 32 and several others have him going lower than 15.

I fully expect Revis to be the top ranked CB after the combine (most rank him below Leon Hall). He has great size/speed and think compares favorably to Nate when he came out to OSU. Of course think Revis should go well before when we got Nate. I say he's a top 15 pick but might as high as 11 to the 49ers as the draft board shows now.

  16. If healthy he instantly solidify either guard position. Oh, and yeah, I've heard of him. Probably cause he a solid player jackasses.

He be a good short term answer at LG if can't land a guy like Steinbach or Dielman. Of course he is on the wrong side of 30 and as stated shown to be injury prone the last few years. FYI he's given up 12.0 sacks in 58 starts (or 87 career games) but does take quite a few penalties per his snap stats.com profile.

  17. He wasn't really 'better' persay. Most of us were just paying more attention to him. He still shut down his receivers in the first 8 games as he did in the last 8 games. He simply started batting down a few balls in the latter half of the season, which gave him TV credibility. Television has ruined some peoples perception of a good player.

Not only that but those games that are televised we see Nate play down by down whereas guys like Champ Bailey on a highlight show like Sports Center. While I won't argue that Nate's a better CB then Bailey I definately have to agree with you he is one of the best in the NFL and underappreciated by many of the faithful posters here. If we lose him I fully expect our defense to take a step back (hopefully not two) as feel we could regain that step is replaced by our NT find an attacking MLB that Marv seems to think we need and sign a good CB such as Nick Harper, David Macklin or Travis Fisher if Nate is lost.

  18. I remember reading last year that Donte Whitner used to play some CB and was willing to shift down if Kiwaukee and Ashton weren't up to the task.

If Nate leaves and we don't find a suitable replacement, wouldn't Donte move to CB and Bowen fill in? Bowen was supposed to be the starter last year anyways, so wouldn't this work out greatly in the short term?

Many draft pubs did say the Donte has the size/speed combo to play CB but feel we're better of keping Donte at SS for the long term as who wants too see him shift year in and year out? As what happens if Bowens doesn't do the job at SS? Then we shift Whitner back there but then what do we do at CB? No need to make multiple holes when don't have to.
