1. For everyone saying it was his Assistants.  I just have to ask one thing.

    Who hired them?

You will only be as good as the people you put around you.

    115694

I truely think Donahoe all along wanted Marvin Lewis, that's why he he waited until after the Super Bowl to name his head coach. Yet I think Lewis failed him in either in the interview process and/or his wife commenting not wanting to move here due to the school situation. As a result think he went with Williams. I'll admit Gregg made some mistakes with his assistants yet being Gregg was the last HC hired, it's possible some of his first choices of assistants weren't all available due to taking jobs elsewhere.

I also think a lot of people are overly crtictical of his choices as most seem to forget a few things. I mean it looks like the choice of Jerry Gray was a good one. Steve Fairchild, our former RB coach, has the Rams as the 6th best offense in the NFL. Steve Kragthorpe, our former QB coach, finished 2nd last year in the NCAA voting for best head coach while at Tulsa, unfortunately for them they've struggled this season. These are some of the guys Gregg hired but most fans either forgot about or fail to acknowledge.

While Gregg wasn't my first choice of who to hire, mine was Dom Capers, I think he did fairly well considering all the circumstances, taking over a team taht was stripped of almost all of it's talent and then slowly rebuilt. Pat Williams and Eric Moulds are the only two remaining starters from the Wade Phillips era. I wish GWwell wherever his career may take him, except when he plays the Bills of course.

  2. I don't see how the matchup says Carr. The Saints defense might be as bad if not worse then the Colts. Not to mention Green is a better QB and has a better receiving core. The only thing that might hinder Green is Holmes looks to be out this weekend, which might put a bit more pressure for him to perform but could also pad his stats. I say definately go with Green.

  3. Dylan Reeves Grandits entered the world in Clearwater, Florida on Monday at 10:30am. Mom is having a hard time in her recovery, but Dylan is strong, calm and really quiet. In the first hour after his birth, I placed a Bills keychain in his hand and he squezzed it for a few seconds. I then placed his new Bills hat on his head and the initiation ceremony was complete. Sunday night, Dylan and I will  watch the Bills and Pats from his nursery. I never believed I could love someone so much that I just met 3 days ago. For anyone out there thinking of starting a family, do it. The rewards are priceless. Walking on Cloud 9 in Clearwater.

    112570

Ha! Some Bills fan you are, his middle name should be McFarland. Seriously, congrats and best of luck and prayers to mom for a speedy recovery.

  4. I dunno...She just doesnt do it for me...Am I gay ?

    :P

To me Beth O is more girl next door hot then super uber hot. I think inpart because of her personality and she doesn't have the best face in the world. In part she reminds me of blonde Natalie Portman, that some were gushing over a few days ago, both are hot but not top 10 material IMHO. Granted if I were to meet either in person I'd probably be going crazy.

Infact when think of Beth O, I am often reminded of a female friend of mine that would love to be more then to be more then friends with. I might be biased but think my friend has a better face yet Beth has the better body but not by much. Feel free to take a look at my personal photo and let me know what you think.

  5. Patriots: OUT: CB Ty Law (Foot); CB Tyrone Pool (Knee).

QUESTIONABLE: WR Deion Branch (Knee); LB Matt Chatham (Hamstring).

PROBABLE: CB Asante Samuel (Shoulder); LB Larry Izzo (Knee); QB Tom Brady (Shoulder); QB Jim Miller (Shoulder).

    112367

Think we could use Bobby Shaw about now? If only for a decoy, I'd feel more confident with him out there then Aiken and/or Smith.

  6. Good stuff. I watched that game, and also the BC game. Buffalo picked well.

    112134

There's quite a few Bills QB connections in that article. Aside from Reich. There's also the connection of Gelbaugh, who also played with the Bills. The pick that the Browns used to select Kosar was actually originally the Bills. Bobby Ross was set to be the Bills QB coach in 1987 prior to taking a HC job at Georgia Tech. As well as the mention of Flutie in the end.

  7. BTW, where did you get the sacks allowed stats?  If I recall, the sacks allowed stats I saw for McKinnie and Williams from a different source were much worse for 2003.  However, I had figured worse case that Mike had allowed 5 this year in 8 games, and said I thought one was actually a Price sack.  So for this year, those stats would seem accurate.  Perhaps these guys did a bit more analysis and didn't credit Mike with sacks allowed that were someone else's fault on say blitz pick-ups etc.

    111265

Here's a link to my source for sacks allowed.

  8. I have Barlow, as my 2nd back behind Domanic Davis (I'm 4-5 and second in my division but most of my wins courtesy of Mewelde Moore's streak as sat Barlow on the bench). As Barlow has been far from great but think he's a better answer as at least he's healthy. Though when healthy Davis might be the better fit. In terms of Stephen Davis, keep an eye on him to see if/when he comes back. My personal choice is through Yahoo's Player News & Notes as it's free and constantly updated with more then one source.

  9. I wonder if there is a stat somewhere of the breakdown of how a team acquired its current players (x % draft, x % UDFA, x % trade, etc.). Love to see it for the Bills if anyone has it or for the league as a whole.

    110878

You can usually find this type of information around draft time or sometimes during the post season.. I know TSN usually has stuff that talks about how many players left on a team from a draft class and how many starting etc. in their annual draft preview guides.

  10. I know I'm late in the debate and will probably fall on deaf ears but:

Offensive tackle -- The OL may be the most complex position to fill because all five positions require different skills.

There are some subtle differences between the qualifications of a LOT and a ROT. The LOT has to be the best athlete on the OL. He usually lines up on the weak side with no help from the TE and is blocking the defense's best pass rusher, who is usually smaller and quicker. Most of the time he is also protecting the QB's blind side and he must have range and feet to protect his QB. He should also be an adequate run blocker, but most LOTs are more finesse rather than explosive power players.

The ROT is usually a little more physical because he is more involved in the run game. Most teams are right handed and tend to run over the ROT. He doesn't have to be quite as gifted as a pass protector because in many cases he has a TE lined up next to him. One of the mis-evaluations that happens to an ROT is that people assume that he must be a physical guy and doesn't necessarily have to have great feet and quickness. But TEs can go in motion or switch to the other side, which makes the ROT on an "island" protecting the outside. He still needs to have strength and size because the DE that he is playing over is a little more physical than the one on the other side. One of the most common mistakes made drafting or acquiring FA ROTs is not paying enough attention to the athletic ability and feet

True this debate has been mainly about Big Mike vs MicKinnie perhaps instead the debate should be: Big Mike vs Jonas Jennings at ROT and/or Jonas Jennings vs McKinnie at LOT.

Looking closely here's a comparison of McKinnie, Jennings and Williams' stats year by year: The first number being sacks allowed, the second games played.

    Season                                   JJ        MW         BM

    2001                                   0/12        N/A         N/A

    2002                                   7.5/15     7.5/14     4.75/8

    2003                                   2.0/11     9.5/13     11/16

    2004                                   3.5/6       4.0/8       5.5/8

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    TOTAL                                 13/44      21/35      21.25/32

I was and still am pro McKinnie over Williams; of course going solely by numbers it would appear that Jennings is a far better LOT then McKinnie.

Yet, if want to get real critical; the best plan of attack actually might have been trading down (hopefully for a 1st and a 2nd) and selecting (with the 1st) Mike Pearson, who's played LOT and given up 12 sacks in 36 games with the Jags.

Now assuming we get an additional 2nd; we could say for sake of arguement that we still take Josh Reed and Ryan Denney, however this time we are not trading up to get him but rather as part of the package of moving from 4th overall which thus lets us hold onto our 3rd Round and 4th Round picks. This could of let us select QB Luke McNown (and possibly never traded for Bledsoe inturn never getting McGahee and/or guys like Milloy or Spikes. As don't think Peerless has the great year he did that first year with Bledsoe had we gone with McNown instead (and Atlanta wouldn't fork over a 1st to sign him. Granted we still could of taken McGahee with our original pick if it wasn't traded for Bledsoe. Yet I really don't think Milloy or Spikes would come here if we had used a rookie QB (McNown) in 2002 and/or planned on going with him in 2003. TE Randy McMichael would have been nice though with our 4th Round pick.

Granted, in reality I think if we did trade down, we would of taken QB Patrick Ramsey with our 1st pick. I say that as recall TD stating we would of taken him if he was there if Washington never took him.

Anyways, with all that said, it's fun playing hindsight but the truth is no one really knows exactly how different things would be had we taken McKinnie instead of Williams, as I just outlined some possible scenarios, the truth is there are even more then one can imagine.

  11. But he's Jimmy Johnson's best friend!

    106189

And where is Jimmy coaching right now? oh that's right he's not! That said Wanstadt shouldn't have a problem finding a D coordinator job some where next season. Maybe in San Francisco if Dennis Erickson can hold onto the job or maybe even back to Dallas. Although if he makes it to Dallas think it be Jerry Jones' decision and not the Tuna's.

  12. I wish we would have signed Winfield seeing the kind of numbers he's putting up in Minnesota. But Winfield is the one exception to the fact that all of the high priced FAs that TD has let go have basically flopped when they left. So he gets pass from me on this one.

    101868

Winfield's numbers might look nice but consider these Minnesota has the 25th worst defense in the NFL, 27th against the pass. In comparison the Bills defense is 2nd in the NFL, 5th against the pass. As mentioned adding Vincent should help.

  13.

And I don't buy the "security" aspect; you're just as secure walking with your kids, especially in the days of cell phones.

    Anyone else?

    CW

    93635

Walking is definately the way to go; as driving around you're causing more potential risks to other kids who could be trick or treating.

  14. Wow what a looooooong day for our secondary if McGee doesnt play!

    fitzgerald-clements

    boldin-thomas....lol

Bryant johnson vs greer...thats at least 2 tds

    miloy vs freedie jones

the 2 matchups in the middle will give them 21 point alone!

HOPE MCGEE WILL PLAY! as much as our season is over...i think it would be worse to lose to the cards.

    88723

We could always release Matthews (since it doesn't look like he'll getting any playing time) and bring back a CB like Gerald Dixon or Lawrence Richardson or Johnny Lamar.

  15. Another Reed from LSU. <_<

    88754

Or another O-lineman from LSU (Marcus Price was a Tiger too).

    From CNNSI.com

    Rodney Reed

    Position: OG

    Class: Sr

    School: LSU

    Conference: SEC

    Ht., Wt.: 6'3½, 285

    40 Time: 5.14

    Grade: 3.31

BIO: Started 47 of 48 games at LSU since his freshman season. Used at right tackle the past two seasons after manning the blind side during his sophomore campaign.

POSITIVES: Efficient and hard-working lineman that makes the most of his skill. Quick setting in pass protection, blocks with good lean and plays heads-up football. Fundamentally sound, gets leverage on opponents and fights with his hands. Effectively uses blocking angles and jolts opponents with his hands.

NEGATIVES: Not a natural knee-bender, lacks adjustment and only good in a small area. Exploited by speed rushers and lacks overall blocking range. Marginal strength and can't finish blocks.

ANALYSIS: A lineman that does not pass the eyeball test, Reed has limited upside for the next level though his versatility will be key. The ability to back up at either tackle spot or even be moved inside to guard along with his feel for the position could make him an inexpensive role player at the next level.

    PROJECTION: Late Sixth Round

  16. Watching Shayne Graham kick for the Bengals makes me sick. We could have kept him as are kicker instead of Rian Lindell. Way to go Donahoe. And it would have been for half the price.

    85645

Actually, Graham signed a contract this offseason worth $6.5 million over 5 seasons which comes to about $1.3 million per season. Conversly Lindell signed a four-year, $4.2 million contract which comes to about $1.05 mil per season.

True Graham looks as he would have been the better choice (and worth the extra money) in retrospect there's no guaranteeing he'd have the same kicking numbers at the Ralph as he's had in Cincy.

Ironically enough though Graham himself couldn't beat out Lindell in a head to head matchup for the kicking job in Seattle. As I'm pretty sure both were in camp together with the Seahawks at one time. Seattle also missed the boat with respect to Brian Moorman too.
