  1. Probably not. The defense held Mularkey's crew to 100-and-change yards through three quarters, and Harrington finished with a 0.0 rating. A shutout and a game like that is a big thing and they don't come very often so I doubt they'll pull it off again next year even if we were to keep the same personnel on defense.

But...in the end, we still beat them by 3 touchdowns off the arm of our quarterback and last year's offense ,so how many more points will this revamped group be able to put on the board? A tougher question to answer, no doubt.

Truth is, the fish are the last of my concerns as far as getting to the playoffs next year. The team can carry the fish sweep into next season, but they need to get the NE crap off their backs. It was great watching the Jets beat them in their own stadium last year, and I think to myself, I can't wait until we do the same !@#$ing thing.

and don't dismiss the Jets either as despite that arm our QB displayed last year in tossing for over 300 games and having two WRs receive over 100 yards they still were able to beat us with an arguably better defense then we had last year. To me losing the players on defense hurts more then the acqusitions we got on the O-line because it's easier to be a competitive team with a better defense then a better offense. As feel it's much easier to win if have a better a defense then have to rely on winning in a shootout.

  2. Character alone won't get him traded but add to that lack of preparation, a lackadaisical attitude and inconsistent effort plus a jerk for an agent and you've got a trade recipe. I don't want to see him traded. I'd like to see Bills management and coaching get Willis on the right track, get him firmly plugged in, fired up and watch him run. The new regime has one year with the guy. Make it work, unless they're convinved that Willis can't/won't.

A perceived lackadaisical attitude by fans. Just because he's not a ra ra in your face on the bench like Thurman was I can't believe Willis is lackaisical in the way he came back from that injury that almost cost him his career. People call his agent a jerk which I fail to understand as Rosenhaus mearly puts it all on the line for his agent if I was a player I'd love him as an agent. I agree with you he should stay and why I used quotes in my description of a bad character. I think it's just he's misunderstood. As think McGahee likes to be in the spotlight but sadly isn't at his best in front of a microphone.

  3. Speaking of the man, guess who's rating free agents on cnnsi??? Yup, the one and only.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...ated/index.html

Better dismiss him I mean he was an NFL scout as his byline stats but he must be wrong with comments like this

Anthony Thomas, Buffalo Bills, RB: A veteran running back who showed he still has a little juice as a runner. After two non-productive seasons, Anthony was impressive filling in for Willis McGahee during a three-game stretch in the middle of the season. Not a breakaway threat, he still possesses good strength and power as a runner. He may not be able to carry the load full-time, but he can fill a role as a back up/complementary runner.
I mean if read the comments here everyone know that A-train can definately replace McGahee. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, I found that to be a well written article and can't say I overly disagree with much of what he wrote. Of course I have hope that Travis Fisher could be more then a nickel back if we were to get him to replace Nate.

How about good ol' Jeremy McDaniel? What a tease that guy ended up being.

Tease or unrealistic expectations after a strong rookie season? He proved to be a solid 3rd WR but then fans wanted him to be more which might have been expecting too much for an undrafted free agent. Truth be told I think this happens far too much. Case in point to expect the Bills offense to improve greatly with the recent free agent signings. Even if Willis is retained and we draft a rookie with size to compliment Evans, I only expect next year's offense to be medicore at best. As JP may improve but liken him to a Marc Brunell in he'll be a good NFL QB but never great and/or elite.

  4. Hey, don't be knocken on Kevin. I graduated with him in high school

I was being honest, I really liked him coming out of school as he was one of Charlie Ward's favorite targets and felt he be familiar with our offense as they supposedly ran it as FSU as recall. Not to mention he had NFL size and showed to be a good playmaker at times but sadly didn't pan out and has to be ranked among the many misses we had in drafting a WR. I suppose I could of mentioned Fred Coleman instead.

  5. What the hell, bring him in for a visit. Trade Willis to Baltimore for a 3rd, and draft a running back with one of the 3rd's. You still get a DT and a LB'r in rounds 1 and 2. With this line he might have a pro-bowl year.

Yeah let's run a guy like Willis McGahee out of town because his "bad character" and replace him with a guy who was sporting a longer number and orange uniform (jumpsuit) around this time two years ago.

  6. Is Tom Donahoe the Dolphins' GM? That's what the Porter signing reminds me of. They added an LB who's definitely on the downside of his career.

Well they had to replace Junior Seau somehow. I agree Porter's on the downside of his career but so is most of the Dolphins defense which is still the strength of their team until Ronnie Brown lives up to his hype and/or Daunte Culpepper returns to pre 2005 form.

Yeah, the same team(and same guys now a year older) our so-called weak team swept, and shutout 21-0, last year - or did you forget about that? Porter is comparably weeeeeak against the run. But it's our, widely acknowledged as mauling, run-blockers that should be worried? I hand Willis the ball and laugh at them; and you.

Is our defense still good enough to shutout a team without it's starting middle LB, best player in the secondary and possibly nickel CB removed? All key positions that still have question marks as of today.

  7. We need more playmakers on this Bills team.

    What's a playmaker?

We had one but now you'll have to ask San Francisco they just signed THE playmaker. Yes, I'm a little sarcastic with that post but truth be told Nate did return 5 interceptions (and 1 punt) for TDs as a Bill which isn't too shabby for a CB and won't be easy to replace despite Pyrate Gal's rants about not needing a good cover corner in the cover 2.

  8. That's not schizophrenia. More like a paranoid multiple personality disorder.

Schizophrenia is more like "Beating a 3-6 team is a disaster for the franchise!"

It was because had we not beaten Carolina that fatefull day we would have owned the 2nd overall pick and been able to get Julius Peppers instead of 4th and taken Mike Williams. I kid the Panthers were 1-11 going into that game.

  9. I don't mind. What I can't stand lately is the repetitive nature of the first 8 episodes this season with the whole "Others" mini-season. Since it's returned it hasn't been any better. The Jack goes to Thailand episode was AWFUL. The Hurley van episode was OK, but am I the only one that is noticing a definate decline in the quality of the acting on the show? Sawyer was particularly bad last night I thought and those two new idiots (Nikki and Paulo) are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

To me the last episode was the season's worst. I mean the only thing remotely interesting was learning that Apollo candy bar was the start of what made Hurley fat but evenso it wasn't anything earth shattering. Jack's visit to Thailand was at least had some eyecandy and raised a few questions as to where the Others stayed on the island that they had back yards, who the cell woman was etc.

    ==================

Oh sorry with the title of your thread and the Kirk thing in your signature I started to have a Futurama flashback.

  11. Actually Hemet, if you read the whole thread no one said Langston was a piece of schit. It was taked out of context. Some fans get their blood pressure boiling so much in here, they read into things that aren`t really there for the sake of argueing.....after reading this, you`ll see what I mean.

I realize players can get better from their days in college but here's a blip from CNNSI predraft bio

    Langston Walker | OT | California | Pacific-10 Conference

Selected by Oakland Raiders in round 2, pick 21 (53 overall)

    Height Weight 40 Grade

    6'6 340 5.25 3.59

Four-year starter that played both left and right tackle. Only played four games as a junior, as a broken ankle early in the year forced him to miss most of the season.

Mammoth, powerful lineman yet to live up to the expectations placed on him early in his career. Blocks with a wide base, forward lean, and quick with his hands, extending them and easily pushing opponents out of their angle of attack. Tremendous overall body strength, anchors in pass protection or gets movement from his run blocks. Engulfs opponents but also shows the ability to move in space and does an admirable job protecting the edge on passing downs. Displays above average footwork and lateral agility for such a big man. Not quick off the snap and late into his blocks, gets sloppy and does not chop block well. Overweight, not light on his feet and wears down over the course of a game. Does not use his blocking angles correctly or do the little things well. Biggest problem seems to be a lack of intensity; does not attack his blocks or play aggressive football. Had the potential to be an early round draft selection based off the tapes of his sophomore season but his play has leveled off the past two-years almost to the point where he has regressed. Needs to condition himself better, lose weight and keep his focus and concentration on the field at all times if he's to have a future at the next level. Early Fifth Round.

To me this sounds like Mike Williams revisted so call me unimpressed until he proves me wrong.

  12. With the Bills "Cash to Cap" policy as stated during Marv's PC, how much room under the cap remains to sign FAs? I'd say the Bills would be about done in the FA market this year.

Buffalo has spent big bucks on Kelsay, Dockery and Walker. Add in Whittle and with the retention of a few of our own guys the estimated 15 to 20 mil of cap space must have vanished by now :P

Having said that, I do like what they have done, not sure if it will work out, but at least Marv and Co. seem to have a plan.

For what it's worth in an AP story reports "Really a terrific day for us," coach Dick Jauron said. "It was just an outstanding day. We've got a happy building. Our free agency is, maybe not totally complete, but with the addition of these three today, it's been a terrific time."

If is complete I just have to shake my head in anger as feel we overpaid for Walker. I can stomach the Dockery signing but wouldn't say he was on the top of my list and see it was for more then Hutchinson got last year and slightly less than Steinbach got from the Browns one has to hope he compares to them which I don't feel he does.

  13. Willis appear to have more future upside, but if one cares more about next year, my guess is that one follows Marv's thinking at his last press conference and slides Crowell over to his natural position where he played well in pre-season learning behind F-B and then goes for a pick such as Timmons (more highly rated on most mocks than Willis actually) to fill the OLB slot left by Crowell.

    Per John Clayton

Losers: Linebacker Lawrence Timmons of Florida State was a borderline first-rounder, but he didn't look quick enough and might have slipped into the second round.

  14. I just thought I'd make mention that DT Marcus Bell was cut by the Lions. He might be a good option for the Bills. As he has a history playing under Jauron in Detroit and had his finest season last year playing NT in the Tampa 2 playing under Ron Marenelli as he collected a career high 40 tackles and on the right side of 30 as going to be 28 in June.

  15. You absolutely cannot judge Walker on last year's offense. They were led by a guy who hadn't been in football in ten years, and had spent that time running a bed and breakfast. Every player on that line was hamstrung by terrible coaching and zero chemistry and motivation to fight.

You can blame the Raiders OC for being bad but look at the rest of the coaching staff Walker had.was quite remarkable as 1)His former HC (Art Shell) was one of the best O-lineman to ever play in the NFL and a member of the HOF, 2)The Raiders O-line coach (Jim Coletto) was Jonathan Ogden's coach from 1999-2004 and 3) his assistant O-line coach (Irv Eatman) was arguably the best O-lineman to ever play in the USFL.

  16. who has the link to OLineman stats?

    # of QB sacks allowed

    QB knock downs allowed

    QB rushes allowed

    Pancake blocks?

    etc..etc...

    Projected 2007 starters:

RT Langston Walker 10.75 sacks allowed*

RG Jason Whittle 1.0 sacks allowed**

C Melvin Fowler 3.0 sacks allowed

LG Derrick Dockery 3.0 sacks allowed***

LT Jason Peters 2.0 sacks allowed

    2006 starters:

RT Jason Peters/Terrance Pennington: 4.0 sacks allowed (Jason Peters credited with 2.0 sacks allowed)

RG Chris Villarial/Duke Preston: 6.0 sacks allowed (Chris Villarial credited with 4.0 sacks allowed)

C Melvin Fowler 3.0 sacks allowed

LG Mike Gandy/Tutan Reyes: 14.0 sacks allowe (Gandy credited with 12.5 allowed)

LT Mike Gandy/Jason Peters: 14.5 sacks allowed (Gandy credit with 12.5 allowed)

*RT appears to be a downgrade unless Terrance Pennington can beat out Walker for the starting RT position.

**Whittle only had 2 starts last year so all things said it might be a sidegrade but still eye taking a RG prospect on day 1 of the draft such as Arron Sears.

***It would look like Dockery is an upgrade at LG.

    Stats found at http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/index.asp

In all honesty the best signing in my eyes was Whittle. Dockery might prove me wrong but feel all Marv did was sign a bunch of big guys in hope to shore up the line but the big guys lack athleticism which to me more important then sheer size alone. Time will tell what they will be as a unit but I personally don't like the parts used.
