  1. Personally....I thought Gilly should have received the higher tender

but what is done is done.....this is why you draft. Gilly's replacement was drafted last year with Jonathan Williams.

One thing i dont see anyone talking about....we did just gain over a million back onto our cap right?....what was the placeholder for Mike G.'s tender.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/ which supposedly includes our rookie pool states we have $10.5 million in cap room. If true I'd see if Gerald Hodges is still looking for work and maybe sign a veteran CB yet we can always wait until after June 1st if don't want to worry about any possible compensation picks.

  2. Myself personally, how someone thinks and reacts under the kind of pressure that can do not just you, but the recipient of your thought process/football bodily harm cannot be measured on paper.

Fair but you also have to be smart enough to run an NFL offense, especially nowadays with defensive schemes hiding coverage more than in years past. It's a lot about processing information and also doing on the field. Book smarts will only take you so far if can't do it on the field. It's why it's so hard to evaluate guys in spread offenses etc because in college it's usually make one read and throw in the NFL you might have to make several reads and/or stay in the pocket despite perceived pressure etc.

  3. Btw, every time I think I want a WR with our first pick I just see the holes that we have in our D.

We need a WR, but we NEED defensive picks. I would just love two definite starters on D, one more who can help out, and a definite number 2 WR.

    Am I being greedy?

What are the holes on defense? CB and LB seem to be it yet think we can get quality guys at the positions outside Round 1. For instance if we stay at pick 10, I could see us going with Mike Williams WR in Round 1, Tyus Bowser LB in Round 2 and Rasul Douglas in Round 3.

  4. Obviously, we don't know if it is going to happen and even if we did know we are just not sure of who it would be with. Granted, I love the idea of dropping down and getting "3 out of the top 50 or so guys in the draft" by dropping down. However, more and more I am thinking I would be OK with more picks and that if it helps us get a deal done there doesn't have to be a 2nd rounder in the mix. We might find more teams willing to dance with us.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it is not like I am going to move down for 3 - 5s, but still, I could live with a 3 and a 4 combination (or more) if it calls for it. I know there is no love lost between the TSW and Whaley, but personally I feel fairly confident in this staff with respect to the draft, and 6 picks in the first 120 picks, with 2-3 potential starters is acceptable to me.

    Your thoughts?

Accompanying, please find Walters' draft value chart for a reference:

If we're dropping to past pick 16 or so then I'd much rather we get a 2nd this year back. Yet it's perceived value and if we could land a 1st and two 3rds I wouldn't be opposed to that either. Ultimately the draft is getting the best collection of players and this year seems to have a pretty good crop in the early rounds.

  5. Wonderlic scores doesn't really matter. Jim Kelly and Dan Marino had some of the lowest scores in history, but went on to become great Qb's and HOF.

Today's NFL is more complex than in the days of Kelly and Marino. I mean let's not forget Belichick developed the Giants defense that shut down Kelly (and the passing game) in Super Bowl XXV.

In terms of the Wonderilic, it's debatable of how good it measures a QBs intelligence, personally I liked Nathan Peterman before hearing his score and guess being he scored high it helps with my narrative that he be a good QB but honestly only time will tell. Yet I like that he's a guy who had to find himself (left Tennessee for Pitt) and showed some intangibles in a pro style offense.

  6. What other free agent is out there now that could sign and use the cap savings we'd get by not retaining Gilly? I'm not sure there is one and being we have enough cap room (and few draft picks) we can afford to cap an over priced Gilly this year. I understand that it's foolish to put that much money into a backup RB but if looking at a complete roster it makes more sense especially since our alternative RBs are question marks.

  7.

If they've signed MG to an offer sheet then you can bet they wouldn't care what happens with Blount if it means the Bills wouldn't be matching.

I'd love it if Whaley waits until the last possible day to match the offer and in the interim Blount signs somewhere like Tampa or Green Bay for less money than the Patriots offered him..

  8. I would totally take him in the 3rd round......would be great in a trade down scenario

I rank Webb in the 3rd tier of QBs in they all have upsides but question marks. The more I watch the NFL the more I feel QBs are more about processing information than arm strength. I'm probably wrong but Nathan Peterman feels like the QB that's going to breakout as he developed at Tennessee and had two solid years at Pitt and when watched his performance against Clemson was impressed that seemingly was hitting guys open all the time. I know his arm strength is far from great but think it's good enough.
  9. Davis looks like a more complete WR as he seems to be more fluid/faster. Yet Williams brings the size to the table a shows Dez Bryant clocked speed. I'm glad not a real GM ad I go back and fourth between which I'd want. Most mockers seem to favor Davis for what it's worth.

  10. I find it amazing how many fans are turned off by the thought of an aggressive move for a QB. Sure, trading up again would be a high risk maneuver but atleast they would finally be attempting to rectify the problem. As I said before, find the quaterback of the future and do whatever it takes to get him in here ASAP. If he is in this draft class that's great, if it's Trubisky great, go get em.

To the poster who says a trade up like this would need to result in playoffs this season, I'd like to hear the reasoning. The playoffs are a pipe dream even with Taylor providing a serviceable floor at QB. The Bills lost more talent this offseason and they are once again changing faces of HC, OC, and DC. How are they going to make the playoffs with Taylor and the depleted secondary? Shady another year older? What are the chances Watkins, Shady and Taylor stay healthy all season? What is this LB core going to look like while playing the majority of their snaps in zone schemes? Who is replacing Gilmore? Safeties? Is Darby 2015 or was 16' more telling? Way too many questions for this team, unless they brought in Brady, Brees, Luck or Joe Montana the playoffs would be a miracle.

As it stands their odds are 5th worst and not far from the bottom, that says it all and the guys in Vegas know more than us.

I'm upset over it because said QB has 1 year of experience in the NCAA, BIG risk if ask me. Now if he had two years behind his belt I might say something different. While feel Trubisky might be the best QB in this draft I don't feel he's worth a top 10 pick.

  11.

    Another vote for Dobbs

I don't get the Peterman love, especially relative to Dobbs. Webb lost his job to Mahomes due to injury and wasn't going to get it back, but Dobbs just straight up beat out Peterman.

In college athletic QBs can be more dangerous and Dobbs is a superior athlete to Peterman. Yet Peterman played in a pro style offense at Pitt and has shown skills/intangibles that make him a good QB in the NFL. Specifically he can read a defense if his first option not open and has the ability to throw a WR open ie has the anticipation to throw the ball to a spot that the WR should be at when completes his route. While he doesn't have superior arm strength some have compared his skill set (minus the arm) to an Aaron Rodgers.

  12. I'm a TT guy and believe we have more pressing needs with our first three picks. In no particular order, OT, S, WR, DB are more pressing needs.

We don't have a 4th round pick, so it'll be 5th or worse if we don't make trades. However, I'm all about making trades and picking up extra picks.

To me, I think the QB's are all hit or miss in this draft and we could see a lot of guys fall to the 3rd or 4th round.

With that being said, who would you like to see us grab in the 4th (with a trade) or 5th round?

I think there's a chance that Webb falls to the late 3rd, but I don't see us drafting a guy we didn't interview.

Overall, I see Peterman out of Pitt in the 5th round to us.

I like Peterman as an option but think we have to take him in Round 3 as don't think he be available after that to us.

  13. Wright by all accounts is a great athlete and at times excels (see the Ravens giving him a three year extension after his partial season with them) but also has times he majorly struggles. I have no problem bringing him in to compete, as most of our signings now are going to most likely at or close to vet minimum. He played under Frazier in Baltimore so that's a plus not to mention fellow USC alum so maybe can help out Seymour too?
