1. Just curious to see what everyone thinks about our kicking situation this season...As my subtitle was trying to say, this poll does not include Adam Vinateiri since he is 99.9% sure to get a new deal with the Patriots or be franchised by them.

236753

I voted for Gramatica however there is another kicker in this draft that for whatever reason does not get the play that "The Nuge" has on this board. I'm speaking of Jonathan Nichols. He had a great Junior year but struggled a little as a senior but definately has an NFL leg for FGs and kicking off. Here's a link to his college bio. He might be worth taking a flyer on in the 6th or 7th Round.

2. Here are some moves I think the Bills will make this off-season:

- Ship Travis Henry to Tampa for tampa's 2nd.

- Release Drew Bledsoe (it'll save 2mil.) & release P.Preileu (it'll save 1 mil.)

- Re-sign P.Williams and let J.Jennings walk.

- Sign R.Diem , J.Wiggins , D.Roaila, W.Witherspoon (he's restricted so the Bills would prolly have to give up 1 of their seconds.)

R.Diem would be a big addition because he is a solid o-lineman (quite possibly better than Jennings.) D.Roaola would be a big pick up because Teague probably can't block my grandma + Roala is young and with McNally will improve. Wiggins led the NFC Tight Ends in receptions with 71 (HE MISSED 2 GAMES TOO). Witherspoon would transform the Bills defense into the Steel curtain, he is a very good linebacker.

236658

Signing Witherspoon would also likely mean shelling out a 3rd Round pick to the Panthers. I'm guessing signing Diem means your shifting BIG Mike to LT since both play RT right now? as hope you don't plan on shifting Teague back to LT as if look at his numbers in Denver he gave up 2 less sacks in one season than Jennings has given up for his career. That said I think Teague has shown to be a solid Center and don't see a replacement.

3. Primary punt returner (and why not kickoff returner, at least to save McGee?) definitely.  As a WR, he's as much an unknown as anyone.  I don't know if the Bills can afford to hope he develops, but that's their decision.

236733

Save McGee? The guy is a Pro Bowl Kick Returner, the only way I'd save McGee is as a return man, ie I'd prefer he be our nickel back and kick off return specialist and have a career like Allen Rossum.

4. Do you really think we shouldn't upgrade the DE position? Is Kelsay really the answer?

235483

I don't think we need an upgrade but definately think we need to work on depth at DE especially considering Denney will be an UFA after next season. One guy who might be worth looking at is DE Jimmy Verdon, who should be available where we pick in the 3rd Round and be worth taking if can grab another day 1 pick if trade Henry.

5. If the Bills think that RW is a good WR and can get him in the 4th, I say go for it and don't worry about his college connection to JP becoming a bad thing.  Another WR JP trusts can't be a bad thing, and if JP can rely on RW and open things up because teams can't concentate on Moulds and Evans, so much the better.  And I think Josh is done and Aiken still hasn't shown enough yet to be anything more than a 4th WR.

236720

Don't forget about Jonathan "Fast Freddie" Smith, I think he should be our primary punt returner next year and could eventually become a Antwaan Randle-El type ie a 3rd/4th WR.

6. So with the release of drew and Pierson Prioleau we would be close to 17mil under the cap???

That would give us plenty of money to fix what needs fixing.

236676

I think the Bills were only $4 million or so under after renogiating, add another $5 million because of the increase by the NFL and if the $3.6 figuere is correct then I would say we're only $12.6 under.

7. JPL's most potent target at Tulane was Roydell Williams (WR). He averaged 82.6

yards per game connecting up with JP. Roydell is ranked on value boards at mid-4th to early 5th right now. Look for TD to make a play for JP's most favorite target.

236677

I had a similiar thought in an older thread but it was more inpart because thought Williams would be available where we were picking and he offers the size and speed to be a solid position WR and eventual successor to Eric Moulds.

8. I would guess the only way Jennings comes back next year is if he is also franchised. The question is, is he worth that much money for one year?

Jennings isn't worth the franchise tag but if I'm the Bills he's my top priority in free agency. One would hope he can be retained for $3.5-$4.4 million per season which is the range of guys like Luke Petitgout, Marvel Smith and Flozell Adams got when they all re-signed with their orginal teams. The only sticking point might be the signing bonus. Though Donahoe has been successful with tiered bonuses in the past maybe he can do the same with Jennings.

Over Hassleback?

236604

Matt Hasselbeck is a good QB but Jones is a great, if not the best in the NFL, LT. The choice is simple. Not to mention I always think you shore up your lines over other positions first.

9. One good thing about Adelphia that I just stumbled across.  They used to have ESPN News and ESPN Classic on a second tier of digital cable service.  They are both now part of the "basic" digital cable package.....

Either that or I am getting them by accident!

235645

I'm not sure if you can get it but Adelphia also offers up the NFL Network Indemand which includes the ability to rewatch Super Bowl XXXIX and some of the shows that the NFL Network plays too.

10. GHEEZ, talk about ridiculous.

Cross that guy off our list of possiblilities. Ohh well.

Rams | Pace to be Franchise Tagged - from www.KFFL.com

Fri, 11 Feb 2005 14:24:44 -0800

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the St. Louis Rams have informed OT Orlando Pace that he will be tagged as their "franchise" player for the third consecutive season. Pace is still in the process of searching for a new agent after firing Carl Poston during the 2004 season. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.

236341

and the Seahawks will likely franchise Walter Jones for the 4th straight year which may mean that Jonas Jennings will end up the best LT available and why many, including yours truely, feel it best to re-sign him.

11. I'm probably in the minority here, but I have never ordered a fish fry. I don't really care for fish, but I also can't stand mayo or miracle whip which takes care of macaroni or potato salad which come with every fish fry.

Thank God for veggie and bean burritos from Mighty Taco or cheese pizza.

235929

If you really don't like mayo/miracle whip I'd suggest a fish fry with cole slaw.

12. Obviously I am no GM & I don't have the insight or knowledge of Tom Donahoe but based on the things I know and have read this is my educated guess on what I think the Bills should do this off.

229272

Here's my quick plan(s).

1. Rework Bledsoe and Moulds' contracts.

2. Re-sign Jonas Jennings to a contract worth between $3.5 - $4.4 million per year.

*3a. Attempt to re-sign Pat Williams to a cap friendly dead (no more then $3 mi)

**3b. IF Pat walks go after LG Rick DeMulling

4. Trade Travis Henry to Tampa Bay for their 3rd Round pick (roughly pick 69 overall).

5. Cut Prioleau.

6. Re-sign Matthews to two year contract (2005 is Drew's final season as a Bill).

7. Re-sign CB Kevin Thomas to two year contract (to serve as dime/nickel back).

DRAFT:

*Round 2: If Pat re-signed there's a need for a LG, use pick on OG Evan Mathis, Alabama.

**Round 2: If Pat unsigned, there's no need for a LG, use pick on CB

Antonio Perkins, Oklahoma.

*Round 3A: (from Tampa) Scenario if Pat is re-signed CB Bryant McFadden, FSU

**Round 3A:(from Tampa) Scenario if Pat is unsigned K Mike Nugent, Ohio State

Round 3B: DE Jimmy Verdon, Arizona State

Round 4: WR Roydell Williams, Tulane

Round 5: LB Derek Wake, PSU

Round 6: RB Noah Herron, Northwestern

*Round 7: Scenario if Pat is re-signed: K Jonathan Nichols, Ole Miss

**Round 7: Scenario if Pat is unsigned: OL Willie McNeill, North Carolina

13. wow.  he is signed for reasonable numbers and his signing bonus is paid by the trading team, so no salary cap issues.  i dont know too much about him, but its an interesting trade.

Here's a blurb from his 1999 CNNSI predraft bio:

Lonnie Shelton | OT | Eastern Michigan | Mid-American

Selected by Arizona Cardinals in round 1, pick 21 (#21 overall)

Ht  Wt  40  BP  SS  LS  VJ  BJ  Grade

6'5"  341  5.44  22  4.77  -  29.5  8'4"  7.06

He is a player from a small school that is really coming on and he may have the best upside of any offensive linemen in this draft. He did not look out of place at the Senior Bowl and showed good overall movement and agility while playing left tackle against better players than he was used to on the college level. He has a little bit of a "rap" of being a hot and cold player and he tends to play to the level of his competition, which means he doesn't always dominate because he does not face great defensive linemen. He has a great athletic background and his dad was a NBA player. He has excellent feet, can adjust on the move, is a natural kneebender and he has good overall balance. He has natural strength and he uses it well and has a good coil and explosion. However, for all of these skills, he does not always dominate at the point of attack, he does not do a great job of finishing his blocks and at times, he will turn into a waistbender and appear to be sluggish. He seems to have realized what is at stake for him in the next few months and his intensity level is improving. This is a player that will tease a lot of NFL teams and if they are comfortable with his work ethic, he will be drafted high. There are no questions about his physical skills.

and a link to his Stats Profile.
14. The Cardinals granted the agent for offensive tackle L.J. Shelton permission to pursue a trade, just 15 months after the team re-signed Shelton to a lucrative contract extension.

It seems like most feel that Jennings won't be back next year. I feel Shelton might be a slight downgrade from Jennings yet all things condidered I think it be a fair trade for both sides. As Shelton is a proven NFL player and probably prove being worth more than an unknown draft pick and the free agent landscape is pretty bare when it comes to Offensive Tackles. Not to mention Shelton doesn't have a big money contract, which seems to be the most overwhelming reason most here don't want to re-sign Jennings. Toss in Damion Shelton is LJ's cousin might make him a perfect fit here. And of course it gets rid of Henry and puts him in the NFC and allows him to be "the guy"once again now that Emmit is retired. Thoughts?

15. Seems to be slim pickings. Westbrook will cash in as an RFA. The Eagles will be forced to match any offer. Any opinions on the rest ?

226416

J. R. Redmond might be a good 3rd down back, he had a career high 32 catches last season. I also posted in another thread that if the rumors of the Vikings having any interest in Henry that we should ship Henry to Minny for Mewelde Moore and low (5th/6th) pick. Of course I thought Jonathan "Fast Freddie" Smith was going to end up with this role during the preseason when we had him listed as a HB on the preseason roster.

16. So, if I get this thing working, which games should I get?  I have about 30 games, but I think I'm going to get Contra, Ivan Stewarts Super Off Road, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtels, & Maniac Mansion.

225966

I didn't see Tecmo Super Bowl on your list of haves and feel this a must have, if can find a copy. Contra and Maniac Mansion are two others I think that belong in the must have category. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game(s) were fun too but don't belong with the other categories. Of course it all depends what type of gamer you are, me I like adventure and RPGs first and foremost then I usually side with sports games and don't mind an entertaining action game now and again.

17. Well, it also depends on the talent available in a year, your case in point.  2002 was weak as all get-out, and our two picks there look serviceable at best.  In '01 we got two quality starters.  I think this year the talent is not impressive enough to merit the spending another Round 1 pick would necessitate.  And, if one of those round 2 guys was the Nuge, it's not like kickers command crazy dollar amounts.

225439

True but one thing about this draft is it isn't overly deep at the top, (ie there's no clear cut #1 overall guy) I think we could land two quality guys in Round 2 based on our only glaring needs being a starting LG and nickel CB (of course if we lose Jonas than I would focus on trying to get an OT such as Adam Terry at the end of the 1st). Of course that is if Henry nets us a 2nd Round pick which at this point is iffy, right now could see us with Tampa's 3rd Rounder. Although I have read that the Vikings like Henry and I'd be more then willing to ship Henry for Mewelde Moore and a later (5th/6th) Round pick.

18. Two 2nd Rounders, Look at the 2001 and 2002 draft as examples. In both years we had two 2nd Rounders, in 2001 we netted Travis Henry and Aaron Schobel the following year we netted Josh Reed and Ryan Denney proving just because a guy is drafted in the 2nd Round he'll live up to the billing. IE The more picks you have the better chance you have at hitting.

19. Halftime of Super Bowl 28...Bills up 13-6 at the half..I was going NUTS....I thought the Bills had them...

:I starred in Brokeback Mountain:  Jimmy Johnson

225216

Everyone points to Thurman's fumble in the 3rd as the turning point but I feel we lost that game when we failed to score a TD just before the half, I remember saying we should of got 7 on this drive and as we know the rest was history.

20. Fester's quest was the hardest game - ever. You got ONE life for the whole game - ONE!!!

224899

I had Festers Quest too (just totally forgot about it) and you're right that game was hard as hell!!!

Blades of Steel was great too, the in game games beween periods were a nice touch too.

Aside from Zelda, I think the longest game it took me to complete was Dragon Warrior.
