1. So you don't think his ACL injury was a factor at all?  I do.  Like I said, he tore it in the 2nd game of the 2000 season.  So him starting the season off at LT in 2001 means he was playing within a year of his surgery.

As for what the Bills did with him, they signed him originally to play LT.  Then when mini-camps came around and Jennings couldn't hack it at center, they decided to move him to center and Jennings to LT.  If you recall, Teague was pretty pissed about having ot play center.  And the Bills drafted Mike Williams that year, to play RT, with the intention of eventually moving him to LT.

His ACL might of been a factor but I still don't think it's wise to move a guy out of a position he's played the last 3 seasons. To me if the Bills truely thought Teague was a capable LT then we would have never drafted Williams in the first place is my exact point.

  2. I get the impression there is going to be a lot of angry posts here in a couple of days when Demulling signs with the Lions.

    272304

I'd be upset if DeMulling lands in Detroit but think we can find a LG in the draft, my biggest concern is the hole at LT and like to see it plugged with Womack or Bob Whitfield. My top choices at LG in the draft is Evan Mathis out of 'Bama or C.J Brooks in the 3rd or later as his stock has been falling since the end of the season. Although Dan Buenning's stock has slipped a little, he could be anoption if want to take someone on day 2. Granted if somehow David Baas fell to us with our top pick, I'd take him in a heart beat.

  3. Am I the only person who remembers how Teague struggled at LT for the Broncos?  They didn't even offer him a contract, which allowed him to come to Buffalo in the first place.  And now people want him to be our starter at LT???

    272287

I tried to say as much in my post showing the sacks given up numbers but was dismissed because of his injury the year prior. Yet again I ask those people why wasn't Teauge used at LT back when we first signed him as had a hole at LT in 2002 as well.

  4. I thought he was in his 30's. But he is only 28. why did the Giants cut him ?

    Anyways here's what Accorsi says:

I think anyone who has been in the National Football League as long as I have has an unofficial list in his mind of his all-time favorite players. Ike Hilliard is near the top of mine," Accorsi said. "(He is) a pure professional, clutch player, warrior and extraordinary person. I don't think I have ever admired any player I've been around more than Ike."

    Hillaird:

"I'll either resurface somewhere or if no one wants me to play ball for them, my life will go on," the 28-year-old Hilliard said. "But I'm looking forward to staying in shape and playing some more good football."

    272258

Mar 4 After failing to come to terms on a restructured contract, Hilliard has been released by the New York Giants. The eight-year veteran receiver, who was the seventh overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft, was scheduled to earn $1.5 million in 2005, and also was slated to receive a $750,000 roster bonus later this month. He finished the 2004 campaign with 49 catches for 437 yards in 16 games, but failed to find the end zone.

From his Yahoo! page in the News & Notes section.

  5. If all we can get for Henry is a 4th, then I say keep him and let him earn his big contract by playing well as the backup and not B word about it.

    271910

and then let him leave as an UFA after next season? Sorry I'd take the 4th and hope we can find another Terrence McGee or Andre Reed.

  6. How can we be in the fifth year of the TD regime and still not have an

offensive line in place.  This team was torn apart, and rebuilt with all

TD guys, and now we have a rookie QB going behind center and

the only position we know for certain is RG.

Is this the way to build a team.

This really shows how bad the Bills have been at drafting O-linemen

and how poorly they have done on the 2nd day of the draft.

Oh yeah,  TD does NOT get a pass this year because of a rookie QB.

    271902

You make some good points about day 2, as let's also not forget about Ben Sobieski and Dylan McFarland.

  7. teague is a Left Tackle

    271876

....but not a good one, 11.25 sacks given up in 16 starts (.70/Game) at LT in 2001....

    Compared to Gandy's 8.00 in 14 starts (.57/Game) in 2003.

Pork Chop's stats are harder to calculate because he never spent a season at one position for what it's worth he's given up 10.75 sacks in 22 starts (.49/Game).

In terms of Jennings, he gave 13.50 in 42 starts at LT (.32/Game).

Seriously, if Teague was such a quality LT, why hasn't anyone asked, when we signed him why didn't we keep him at LT and keep Jennings at RT and draft someone besides Mike Williams?

  8. Gandy's history doesn't excite me all that much.  He could be a find.  However I liked Bannan's potential.  And Peters and Teague are likely the 2 main competitors at LT, assuming the Bills find a new starting center.

    271840

One thing about DeMulling playing Center, In looking at NFL.com GameBooks it appears he started 2 games at Center in 2004. I think thoughts of him as a starter in place of Teague is really questionable for the sole reason it mean moving 2 players (Teague and DeMulling) at positions they have not played a majority of their careers. If signed I think there's no doubt it's to play at LG. In terms of the hole at LT, if signed I'd give Pork Chop the nod there or we could see Gandy and possibly McFarland competing with a draft pick. As good an athlete as Jason Peters is, I don't want someone who has next to no experience as an offensive lineman at the college or NFL guarding my QBs blindside.

  9. I am not comfortable with where we are, but let's see where we will be at the end of pre-season.  I don't think it makes sense to move Teague to LT.  He has not played the position in years and he is three years older.  He would be only a stop-gap measure, and that does not make sense to me when you have a rookie quarterback.  I could see us drafting a LG and/or LT.  A drafted LG may be able to step in and start, but I doubt a drafted LT could.  Signing Gandy and possibly Womack may help for depth, but not for developing a strong group of starters.

    269802

    Well said, I concur.

  10. Remember when we had Reed, Lofton and Beebe?

If these were our starting WR's in today's market and they were in their prime...........Beebe would be a bargain at 3 mil per year and yes I would pay that for a great 3rd WR.  I want to believe in Aiken and Reed but Reed regressed and Aiken is a below average receiver.  I still think we need to improve the OL first but acquiring Gardner was just a thought.

Bring back the K-Gun except now its the J.P. Gun

    266762

Beebe's career stats vs Az Zahir Akim's . Tell me you think Az Zahir Akim is worth $3 million a season?

  11. Chike Okeafor just signed with Arizona and got a $25 million contract for 5 seasons. Last year he had 53 tackles, 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles -- all career highs.

Reggie Hayward signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week and got a five-year, $25 million contract. Last year he had 43 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 1 forced fumbles.

Aside from Darren Howard, these two players were considered the best DEs available in free agency.

Compare this to Aaron Schobel whom we signed for five years and approximately $23 million, Schobel recorded 73 tackles last season 8.0 sacks and forced 5 fumbles this year.

Schobel's well worth the contract we're paying him, is he a top 5 DE in the NFL? No, but I'd definately you could fit him in the top 10-15. His biggest problem is he's following a franchise DE in Bruce Smith when the fact of the matter he is an above average player at his position. Here's a well write article entitled "Aaron Schobel is Worthy of His Contract"

  12. Hypothetically speaking if we can swing the deal for LJ Shelton, and sign demulling. Would you trade our 2nd rd pick for Saints de Darren Howard?

Saints | Seeking Second Rounder for Howard - from www.KFFL.com

    Tue, 8 Mar 2005 12:33:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports it is believed the New Orleans Saints are seeking a second-round draft choice in exchange for "franchise" player DE Darren Howard this offseason.

    Howards Stats

I like Howard as much as anyone on this board but I would not make the trade because of the cap implication though in terms of value I would make the trade in a heartbeat. As Howard is one of the better pass rushers in the league and think he has the size to play at LDE although he's played RDE most of his career.

  13. I could live with Shelton.....but there is another OT out on the market right now....Victory Riley...

I wonder if the bills have interest

    266071

We signed Teague over Riley a few years ago. I think Riley's been predominately a RT in his career too if I'm not mistaken. I think Shelton's a better player.

  14. This helps in our efforts to move Henry...the Cards now have a decent offense in place, but no running game would let Defenses just let loose on Kurt all day long.  So what do you do?  Do you risk getting a rookie and having him be ineffective?  What if he's one of those 1st rounders that just doesnt "get it" in the NFL, or takes a year to develop?  Why risk that?

Travis on the other hand has proved he can get +1000 yards a season and can step right in and produce.  The Cards need to ship out Shelton anyways, why not complete their offense in one swift, cheap move?

PLUS, this might kick Henry in the butt to quit on those idiotic contract demands and go there and show his worth.

    265004

I just have a feeling that Green doesn't like Henry as think a deal would have happened by now and will likely draft one of the top three backs in the draft who all seem faster then Henry. As he seems to be trying to make an offense like he had in Minnesota. As he has a QB that we all know can pass long, has two good WRs and now he just needs a RB in the mold of Robert Smith/a healthy Michael Bennett.

  15. what are you talking about?  shelton wasn't going to start.  if he doesn't get traded he will be depth at 3 mil a year.  :o  No great need to trade him at this point

    264934

I disagree, Green might just end up releasing Shelton if he can't workout a trade to his liking.

  16. Thats what I'm hoping for as well...if the Bears can get Miller, then Shelton is even more likely to be a Bill.  If not...they'll push hard to land Shelton and we might lose out.

    265007

With the Saints signing Jermaine Mayberry and interested in CB/S Dwight Smith, I think there's a good chance that Miller might choose the Bears as they might be able to offer him more money.
