That and him complaining about targets, and heading towards unrestricted free agency. -

Need some talent in at DT, and I'd like more of an edge presence for 3rd downs than yarbrough and davis. Most of the LBs are UFAs, and I think we need more speed at MIKE and SAM. Lorax is a nice depth piece but he shouldn't be starting at OLB in the NFL at this point. -

Yeah - I'd have to agree. He's gotta do more. At the same time, he was on the field contributing for most of the year. Would like to see him take that next step. We rarely blitz, and the front 4 isn't getting it done. Not enough variety either, not a lot of stunts. -

Terrible contracts. Clay, Dareus, Glenn are the main culprits. I can go through each though. Hogan - Glenn was tagged at the time he signed his offer sheet so we had very limited space. In 2016, we had dead money from Mario and Harvin. We also had Aaron Williams who was getting paid fairly well in addition to the 4 you mention. Woods/Goodwin - Both were UFA's and were entitled to search elsewhere, I don't personally think goodwin was a big loss. At the time they signed elsewhere we were more worried about watkins foot, and clay's knee. Looked to me like they were planning to draft and get younger at the position. Gilmore - Man corner in a largely zone scheme. He also got paid the 2nd highest guarantee and the 6th highest payday of any corner in the NFL. I don't think he's that good so... Looking at the bad contracts on the books, it doesn't seem smart to sign another. Gillislee - RB2 Signed from scrap heap, got 5th round pick in return. Isn't that how you're supposed to operate? We had the highest paid starting RB in the NFL. Signing Gillislee's offer sheet would have made him highest paid backup RB in the NFL. If we put a 2nd round tender on him we'd have paid him about 3 million to be a backup, and we had already matched Groy's offer sheet. Z. Brown - Sat in free agency forever and never signed anywhere. Signed late in free agency, so it isn't as if we weren't given a chance. Not sure we saw him as a fit as a WLB in the 4-3, so I don't know if this one was even an issue. Dareus is now off the books starting in 2019, and i think they'll honestly try and move Glenn before the 2018 season. Clay is 9 million either way in 2018 so he's likely to stay unless we get an above market offer. -
Todd McShay 2018 Mock Draft 1.0

We would gut the roster to the bone! Peterman - here's the ball... Dawkins and Glenn are on IR so i put Ducasse at LT. That would be a fun 2018 Tank year. -
2018 Bills Draft Desires
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to CEN-CAL17's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel like the Front 7 will need at least a couple players through the draft and free agency - depends who we bring back. We for sure need pass rush help, and we need speed at linebacker. Shaq is a solid rotational piece, but i think we're kidding ourselves if we think he'll all of sudden become a beastly pass rusher. We need probably 2 DTs but with the amount they rotate, i don't think we necessarily need a big time pay-day guy there. The play speed needs to be better at the Mike and SAM spots. And that's just the defense. Offensively - QB obviously. I think RB2 is a huge need with every year of mileage we put on Shady. Depending on what happens with Cordy, RG and RT are needs. A WR2 is one of those things that I would love to be able to add - i just don't think we'll have the picks to do it. Maybe bring back matthews if you like him here, or preferably I'd rummage through someone elses trash and grab a cap casualty and see what we can do with him. Randall Cobb maybe? Not sure who else looks like a dump candidate. I gotta think with a new QB, these guys all probably look better. -
Depends who comes out this year for him i think - he could elevate to a #1 overall type of dude for 2019. Obviously there's the fear of injury though.

2018 Trade partners moving up the board
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh i agree - guys will go early. Locker went 8, gabbert 10 and ponder went 12 in 2011 (basically the only misses in the first 15 picks of that draft- )Tannehill went 8. I don't think any of them were really graded to go that early either. Bortles went 3 in a class with manziel, bridgewater, carr, garroppolo. Can be a bit of a crap shoot. Jackson's got a pretty solid arm too - I've seen him make some impressive throws. -

The value isn't there for them at 3... but a 3rd likely goes in the top 10 with so many teams needing QBs. -

I remember Keenum playing really well against us last year and everyone getting pissed like "Case keenum is shredding us, we are terrible". He threw a back breaking pick 6 and they lost, but honestly he didn't look bad. That's like the only reason I'm not surprised he's been doing so well this year. He had some good games last year with a terrible o-line and terrible receivers. -
Reggie Ragland's play for the chiefs

I don't think they had any interest in tagging Watkins, and his agent probably said no to an extension -

The idea is to not go into the draft in a desperate situation needing a qb -

I would've liked to see if he could grow into something here... but they got a pretty decent return. The trade up makes the value worse. -

Fair enough I looked more at yardage and catches so "touche" - however, does he re-sign there in 2018? 58 targets and 34 catches through 13 games. I think his agent looks at that and cringes. He wants 10 targets a game... If they manage to manipulate the comp pick formula they should get a 2019 end of round 3rd for him. We got a 2018 2nd and Gaines who has been pretty good. -

NRC was replaced by L.Johnson who I thought has been pretty good this year. Woods was a UFA. Got a big deal. Goodwin was a UFA. Hunter has 3 catches this year. Holmes has out-performed him. Z. Brown didn't get a big deal, perhaps it was a fit issue. They brought in Hodges, and he didn't make the team. Ragland was always a step behind in preseason regarding coverage. Scheme fit was talked about before the pads went on, and he definitely struggled. Darby was hurt for half the year and so was matthews so... wash there and we netted a 3rd. Watkins hasn't done much and is a guarantee to hit UFA in 2018. Gaines has been really good when he's on the field. I think Watkins was the one guy who really could've helped this offense a ton, but they must be after a QB hard in 2018 if they were willing to move him. You didn't mention Dareus, and i think we all hoped the lightbulb would turn on and he would become the guy he needed to be. He did not, and we moved him to maximize the cap space we could net for 2018. -
Tyrod Trade Value This Offseason
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's a bunch available too. Keenum, bradford, mccown are all UFAs. Then you have Smith who may get cut, or cousins if you wanna pay a ton. I'd be fine with Bradford, if we also draft someone. -
Tyrod Trade Value This Offseason
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that was a money issue. He would've had a job, and seeing how many lousy QBs have started so far this year - he'd have started some games. Yates is currently starting for Houston - we couldn't cut him fast enough. -
I'm basing my opinion on the fact that one has had good games at this level, and one has not. TT has practiced with the one's all year basically, NP has not. The locker room seems more behind TT than NP. And clearly that had an effect on the team in that LA game. The players practice with Peterman all the time, and I don't think that they want him to start going forward. They believe they have their best shot with Tyrod. In a playoff race, this shouldn't be lost on the coaching staff. NP may still have a bright future in the league, but he has done nothing to justify going to him if they are both healthy (which is kind of a dumb thing to argue about, as neither of them are healthy).

Draft a QB or pay for one?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Ramza86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both wasn't an option, but thats the route i would go. Bring in a Bradford, McCown, Keenum, Smith (probably not a Cousins, that pricetags very high) - and then draft a guy. Philly basically already did this with bradford, because you have to sign a free agent first since the draft is so much later. They ended up recouping a 1st for Bradford, which I don't think we would be able to do - but it'd be a much better QB room than we've had in a very long time.
