  1. I got a kick out of the letters between Screwtape and Slubgob, two demons discussing how to "screw" people up. Terrible movie material though. The Perelandra Trilogy was good. That Hideous Strength was downright scary, while the middle book Perelandra was a bit dry. I don't know, Chronicles of Narnia, Book 7 parallels Revelation in many ways, but it is more like a family reunion than judgement day. The promos look good, it all depends on whether or not the story is as good as the effects. This is NOT the Lion King.
  2. Anyone have any thoughts on this book to movie adaptation? The previews look promising. The cartoon version was average at best and the (I think) PBS series of the 7 chapter Chronicles of Narnia was lame. I am focusing on the fact that the first Hobbit and LOTR cartoons/movies were also lame, but the recent movies were superb. That gives me some hope. Comments? Anyone else a C.S. Lewis fan? p.s. I just realized I used the OT tag. Is there anything NEW on topic? These are the leanest parts of the football season.
  3. The difference between Creamsicles and Dreamsicles click here Not for nothing but the graphic that goes with it is rather disturbing! Fudgesicles were creamy chocolate ice cream; now they are chocolate flavored popsicles.
  4. Thank you, J.A.F.A.
  5. Are you saying that Dan is boring? He is not. He IS Gross (pass the Kool Aid)
  6. So much for a kinder, gentler Stadium Wall. As far as my personality here, it is my personality. I am a terrible actor. Click on my name if you need a visual.
  7. I agree but would extend my disappointment all the way back to Todd Collins, the annointed successor to Jim Kelly. I have not been HAPPY about the QB situation since the Jim and Frank days. That said I am 100% behind JP, but I am guarded in my expectations.
  8. Diane, I want the old avatar back or I may have to ignore you! I miss your smiling face. P.S. don't drink Dan's Kool Aid.
  9. Jealous? Brandon is all right. I have met him several times outside of 'virtual' reality. Hey, any friend of cablelady......
  10. You know that is the most responses ever to a thread I started? Took on a life of it's own. Seriously, the best way to start a thread is to introduce an idea or pose a question, and then back off and wait to see if you get any bites. Asking a question and then answering it is a good thread killer (trust me I kill a lot of threads).
  11. OJ is a sad excuse for a man and a stain on the Bills history. Just my opinion. I would not take one if it was given to me. As a player he was a hero to me, during some very dark years of the franchise. If I got a throwback it would be Tom Day from the AFL Bills. Super Bowl Bills - Talley or Reich.
  12. Start a poll and we will know for sure.
  13. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
  14. That's not you, that's Steve!
  15. Without looking at anyone else's choices: In no particular order..... Wizard of Oz Lord of the Rings (trilogy) Star Wars (original) Labyrinth 2001: A Space Odyssey National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Dr. Strangelove The Last Waltz Ghost Busters The Longest Day I would have like d to pick 5 or 6 more but will abide by the rules for a change.
  16. Snuggling with your lady in the back of the theatre during a movie about football (not traveling blue jeans): Priceless!
  17. I was just making sure people knew the rodent shaped like a man was not our own, very well groomed Danny Boy!
  18. LOTR was the exception, not the rule, unfortunately. I would have loved to see them do Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land, but then they made Starship Troopers into "how many giant bugs can we squash?" and hoped they would leave the book alone. Also look at how they ruined Asomov's Robot concept with "I, Robot" and "Centennial Man"! I wanted to run from the theatre screaming. I saw SW: ROTS on the big screen twice. Once at a matinee and once because I know a manager and it was free, , but I wanted the big screen special effects. Most movies I watch are on DVD and most of them are from the public Library for FREE. Here is a recent movie going experience: Wife and I take seats in a stadium style theatre for a low draw film. There are maybe 2 others in the theatre. A VERY tall couple comes into the almost empty theatre and sit directly in front of us. My wife is quite small. We discretely move a couple rows back and over. A group of teens comes in and sits very close to us and they are screwing around, hey that is what they do! So we move again, farther away As the promos start a herd of four obese people with the largest drinks and casks full of snacks, sit in the same row we are in; we have to move to let them in the row. Gross guy (not Dan) looks at me and says "hope this does not suck too bad for $8, but at least the popcorn is double buttered, hyuck, hyuck!" To the sounds of slurping and straw sucking we move again, as a cell phone starts playing the Rocky Theme.... The movie was OK, but PEOPLE are why I do not go to very many movies and I TRY to go at odd times when I do.
  19. She is the creepiest looking thing....
  20. True. Catholic and Roman Catholic are not the same. Note to self: do not drink Dan's Kool Aid
  21. Alex: That is correct, next category. GG: I'll take "What did Rockpile start this time" for $500 Alex: When threatened with basement flooding what should you insert into the plughole on your toilet. GG: What is a tennis ball, Alex.
  22. I am also not Catholic (my wife is) and I am a born again Christian. I am certainly not ANTI-Catholic. When we baptised our children in the Catholic church, I made a promise to my God, that I would support them in their spiritual growth through all sacraments, and I kept my promise. Oooh, bad analogy. I do not need any church to practice my religion. But that girl thing.... some things are better when NOT done alone. This Parish, by the way is usually one of the better ones. ...and for the record, all I find distasteful in the Catholic church is the method and timing of speaking about the NEED for money. 1. Easter Sunday, the 1st thing said should not be financial. 2. A prayer mass for my father-in-law was also a homily for raising money. 3. Father's Day homily was a pitch for WJZS In my experience, which includes almost all denominations, the Catholics are the only ones who did this - leaving a bad taste in my mouth and a reluctance to attend their mass. By the way, except for (some of) the mud-slinging I am enjoying this thread.
  23. Um, passing a plate or a basket on a stick to collect money is hardly limited to Catholics.
