This one has been a while coming and I have a special soft spot for space travel. Reading SF as a kid, I expected I would be vacationing at a lunar colony by now. I remember watching stars with my mother and watching Sputnik go across the sky.

Anyone know where the Bills Kid Zone will be set up this year? Is it still in Growney (sp) Stadium or did they move it when they put in the new turf? Did they put the new turf in both practice fields as well as the stadium? I know they wanted to be able to practice, even in the rain, but did not want to practice on wet grass or mud to avoid ruining the fields (or the players!).

I played it safe and both had real player and media player windows open. Real player did time out just before launch (my bad) and I could not get it back, but media player is still running. Right now they are showing clips of the launch, with live audio of what they are doing. All I can say is that watching that launch, if you weren't "moved" you must be flat-lined.

If I thought there was a snowball's chance in hell the money would be spent "fixing real problems here one earth I might agree. Since it would just be spent on pork legislation anyway, I will vote in favor of a new frontier.

Night practice tickets (July 30)
rockpile replied to The Tomcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
$1.75 per order. Six tickets per person (or account). They e-mail them to you in Adobe format. You print them and take the whole sheet to practice, and they scan the bar code. This way they are sure each ticket is only used one time. Go to Ticketmaster before 9AM August 1st, and "sign up" for an account (no charge), to get faster service (or so they say). -
This was the first win in a 4 game winning streak by backup QB Frank Reich. When Jimbo went down after a John Hand hit, everyone thought we were doomed. Also: flea flicker pass TO Jim Kelly for a first down. I do not remember any other game details. It never occurred to the D to cover him because it was assumed he could not run or catch. From the Rockpile: A few fans mugged Booth Lustig as he left the locker room, after he missed a +/- 20 yard FG, causing a tie with San Diego, instead of a vctory. Man, Lustig sucked (I was at the game).

Hmmmm. Arkansas? Instead of red bows to show they were available, they should have had name tags to see if they were related!

It may be that you just do not like fixing stuff. My son cannot fix diddly, and I have tried to show him lots of times (bikes, plumbing, whatever). I have a grandson though, who is only 8 years old, and I will bet he could fix my car better than I could. To be fair, my son is the one I call when I have computer probelms or need a DVD burned.

Do You Still Go To The Library ?
rockpile replied to Bob Lamb's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If the colleges owned the (formerly public) libraries, what would be their motivation to benefit the general public, altruism? -
This made me just sick....

Do You Still Go To The Library ?
rockpile replied to Bob Lamb's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Monday night is library night. I usually pick up a few movies and music CDs. The library has hundreds of video and audio selections, a few PC games, as well as dozens of magazines and <gosh> an awful lot of books. I read only about a book a month but that is because my eyes are tired from being on the computer so much. I do not watch much programmed tv, and do not like to rent or buy movies. I use CDs as a music sampler prior to buying music, and a way to experience music I never thought I would like. A good example would be Duke Elegant - a selection of Duke Ellington music by Dr. John. A very delightful surprise. As you enter, there are always books for sale. I always browse the shelves for bargains, and occasionally find a gem. The PCs are always in use, there are lots of kids and parents there. I search on line from home and reserve movies and books held by other branches, to be sent to my library for pickup. I can't drive there to get them for the 50 cent reserve fee. I have seen smart parents let their kids pick a video AND encourage them to read - sometimes they read the same book as the movie. I LOVE the fact that they have videos. So we disagree. ANY excuse to get a kid near a book or magazine and read is a good excuse. Sometimes I will take a half day vacation and get lost in the monster downtown library. It's like Barnes and Nobles without the Starbucks. I can get lost in the "stacks". I have found and made copies of old news articles from micrfiche when I was doing research on college papers (I went to night school as an adult with kids) as well as a copy of the NFL Charter for the Rochester Jeffersons. I have not heard of budget problems in Rochester, but I do not follow news much anyway. I gave my Encyclopedia Britannica and the annual updates to my cousin abiout 35 years ago. Anyone who says libraries are "useless in today's age" is a true idiot. -
Been having those lions, and tigers, and bears hallucinations again, Todd? Sorry, I saw an opening and .....

"Compassionate Conservatives" Strike Again
rockpile replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Walk into a fundamentalist church, make the sign of the cross, genuflect before you sit down, and ask the person next to you were the confessional is. That might be a good way start. -
Quite often these parents are of the age when they should stilll be WITH their parents, not BE parents. All they are doing is beating the price of a baby sitter and hoping the kid will either fall asleep or annoy someone besides THEM. Coming to Rochacha for a Plate this year?
