Allen finds receivers when they get open, at a pace higher than any other QB in the NFL. The problem is that they simply aren’t getting open!

@Maine-iac and I were debating this a few days ago. I have been shouting from the roof tops that Bills receiving options do not gain much separation. The argument I get back is simply “Yes they do! Allen just isn’t throwing to the guys that are open”.

Here is a chart, plotted through Week 17, that shows Allen has the highest % of throws to open receivers, despite his receiving options being 27th in the NFL in separation (in totality of all QB’s plotted).

Also, notice how open Lamar’s receivers are…

He is also not scanning the field like he did a couple of years ago.  It almost seems that sometimes he has a clean pocket and looking to see where the rush is coming from instead of keeping his eyes downfield.

This starts happening when you start losing games.

The odds of a tie are probably about the same as they were for a Dalton-to-Boyd 49-yard TD pass on 4th-and-12 with under a minute to play against the Ravens' D.

    Should be a great game.

I do like that match up.  I wouldn't be too afraid of Pittsburgh either.

In the playoffs, we cannot fear anyone.

Yeah dammit!  Back in my day...dirt fixed everything!

Or...amd just spit balling here...we can finally dump this big nickle crap and go with a blitzing 4-3?  Can't say we don't have the backers for it once he comes back.

Yikes. Von is not going anywhere next year with that massive dead cap hit. Let’s just pray he returns at about 80% of what he was.

    2025 he’ll be gone.

If he still saves 7M in cap then they will look at cutting him so that they can get another play (Floyd ??) at that price.

They could try and convince him to write off the $6.4m non guaranteed segment of the 2024 salary so that the Bills save the same money but keep him on the roster without him giving up any of the guaranteed money. That is a pretty straightforward option if he is open to it.

This also might make sense..and may be an offseason will help him recover better

Stadium design. Winter weather = wind = a real s**t show for everything relying upon the atmospheric conditions.

Clearly a dome over a new park would be best, but I would imagine a modern design firm is going to figure out how to eliminate some of the quirks that are accentuated by the sunken stadium.

It is cold and wintry in New England too.  Brady didn't seem to have much issue with cold temperatures.

There are a lot of good WR in the draft. No excuses this time, Beane has to draft a WR in the first round.

If there are a lot of good WR in the draft then couldn't we draft them on the 2nd day ?

Gabe, Harty & Sherfield will 100% be gone. Two terrible pick ups and an uninspiring WR2 wannabe.  Next season might be Diggs last in Buffalo.  That leaves Shakir, Kincaid and whatever we have in Shorter?  I've said we desperately need to draft 2-3 wrs this April.  Starting with either Odunze or Coleman. I'm not a fan of spending big FA $ on Higgins or Evans. So we gotta find weapons in the draft. And stop wasting time, snaps and money on fails like Sherfield,  Harty & Hines.

    100% agree

Brady has always been coaching for his job. He's interim, its not like he's assured the spot for next year. He knows he has to produce every week.

I can say with confidence that this is NOT exactly what McDermott wants. I'm sure he would like a run-heavy offense like we saw against Dallas, but not what we've seen the last couple of weeks. If he wants a run-heavy offense, it's to take the pressure off of Allen and allow him to use play action better and to be more productive with the receivers when he does throw. We're not seeing that, at least not yet. I can't imagine this is what McDermott wants...he wants this, but with a better, more opportunistic passing game.

They ran a lot on 1st and 2nd downs yesterday and then tried to pass on 3rd down.  Run game was not very good yesterday and that was expected against the #1 rush defense in the league

I get your point, the New England game I was referring to (13 of 28, 0 TD, 3 Ints and pulled for Matt Barkley) was year two not his rookie year.

Yes, it is discouraging to me that Allen does not seem to be getting better at the things that he is not good at.   He could be an all time great simply by reducing his turnovers by 20% and a little better processing but people here seem to think that this is impossible without killing his game.

Why convert Allen to something that he is not.

He's the speedy guy with hands Josh needs. And Leggett is like a DK and Debo's  mix. Both could be around when we pick. I think we draft 2 early next draft. Replacing Davis, Harty, and Sherfield. They will all be gone.

    This!  Go Bills !

No way. I'd much rather face Stroud in his very first playoff game in Buffalo than proven playoff Mahomes in KC.

I'd go even further and say that (if we were to lose in the wildcard round) I'd rather lose to the Texans at home than have to sit through yet another playoff loss in Arrowhead.

have to agree.  we are 0-2 in the playoffs at Arrowhead

We need a John Brown type.  If you have a 4.3 guy who can take the top off a defense and has reasonable ball skills, then Diggs, Shakir, Kincaid all become more effective.  Diggs is 30, an age when most wide receivers start to decline or have to deal with Injuries - see Keenan Allen, Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, and of late Tyreek Hill.

Agreed.  Brown and Beasley helped free up Diggs in those high powered offense. Now we don't have that same speed

  12. 7 minutes ago, LABILLBACKER said:

Martin did have a clutch punt yesterday but one punt doesn't magically vault you out of the 31st ranked net punter.  The biggest fail of our ST unit is probably in the tackling and blocking of our punt/KO units.  I can't watch Matakevich and his 5.1 speed run anymore. I still think we'll upgrade punter next year.

Is the problem wkth the Punter or the coverage teams?  You seem to think it is latter but still asking for an upgrade at the Punting position

  13. 3 hours ago, GunnerBill said:

I was slightly surprised when I saw it this morning but Shakir's 39 yards yesterday took him over 500 for the season to 506. Fair jump from 161 as a rook. He has definitely developed. He is more physical, he has learnt the nuance of NFL spacing and his hands have been much better: two drops in 20 targets last year; 0 in 39 targets this year. He is definitely someone who can contribute here on a very cheap deal the next two years as a 5th round pick.

He should be our slot receiver in the playoffs.

Running game, with PA from under center would work. More 12 personnel and perhaps putting Shakir in the one and Diggs in the slot. Remember Diggs got to where he is by being an incredible slot receiver.

we are simply lacking speed in our WRs.  Defenses are challenging our WRs to burn them and they haven;t been able to do it.  This has made the 10-15 yard area very crowded.

Colts are win and in. Same with Texans. Question is the winner the 7 seed or 4

I believe if JAX win then they win the divison and will be the 4th seed irrespective of whether IND or HOU win their game.

Winner of IND-HOU will compete with PIT and BUF/MIA for the remaining two wild cards.

#2 seed gets two home playoff games.  Plenty of motivation

Our best bet is that Dolphins have already clinched the playoffs and have no home field advantage anyhow so does seeding really matter? If anyone is banged up maybe they decide not to rush them back so they are ready for the playoffs

Yes.  #2 seed means they host a home wild card game and if they win that then they host the divisional round.  Huge difference than going on the road to the #3 seed (KC) as a sixth seed.

To be fair to Beane, once a team is paying full salary at 4 key positions (QB, WR, Edge, and CB) he really can’t afford to be going for a second “proven player” at WR.  He’s either drafting or going for guys he thinks can make a jump.

And I thought most folks thought Beane had finally done significant moves on OL

Now should Beane have done some cap manipulations to bring in someone better in FA or put a little more draft capital into it sure.

Today. we had a jail break on the OL.  If they fixed that the running game will work which will allow Play Action to work.  Josh is usually deadly with Play Action

We got some sugar high after Cowboys game and think were some ground and pound team

To be fair, we did not commit to the passing game with the RBs after they dropped a few.  The team seems to be not focused enough

  19. 1 hour ago, The Jokeman said:

And inspite of that we still won. It might mean the TEAM is better than some think.

The defense has definitely improved since October and playing terrific.  If they can clean those bubble and screen plays we should be good

So you thought the O line, particularly the interior O line looked good?  IMO they were awful and the primary cause of the poor offensive showing today.

100% agree.  The Patriots front four were continuously abusing our OL

I hope Sean can hold folks accountable for today's unacceptable drops.

I’m 99% sure it’s H2H if two division winners have the same record (someone correct me if I’m wrong)

could Patty Boy actually have to play a postseason game on the road finally?!? 😱

As 3rd seed, they will host the wildcard game.  If they win and the #2 seed lose. then they will host the divisional round.

If #1 loses in  divisional round then they will host the AFCC.
